What happens when you take Milton Bradley‘s (currently Hasbro) classic board game, Operation, and combine with one of Cobra‘s mightiest Troopers, the Cobra B.A.T.? Awesomeness, that’s what!
HissTank.com Board Member Shipwrecked85 has posted an imaginative take on a game that has tested the surgical skill of many for the past 40+ years. In this remake, you’re Dr. Mindbender (or any Cobra of your liking), trying to figure out where the hardware issue is on a Cobra Battle Android Trooper laying on your repair table. Here’s a piece of what Shipwrecked85 had to say –
I teach 7th and 8th grade science, and I wanted something funner than lighting a light bulb to get my kids motivated. Although he’s deactivated for the diagnostics tests, if you accidentally spark a connection, the BAT will go haywire. You can check out more pics and join in on the discussion already in progress after the jump!

I constructed my own working Operation style game from spare parts (wiring, 1.5v buzzer, LEDs, battery pack for 2 Ds @ 1.5v, couple of alligator clips, aluminum foil, machine screws and nuts, some model car parts and various other "found" parts for pickin'. It's a simple series circuit. I teach 7th and 8th grade science, and I wanted something funner than lighting a lightbulb to get my kids motivated. In this one, you are Dr. Mindbender (or some other Cobra affiliate) trying to fingure where the glitch is in the BAT. He is malfunctioning in battle, destroying armaments and Cobra Infantrymen. Cobra doesn't want anymore economic losses. They don't care so much about the soldiers that this BAT has accidentally killed. They are easily replaceable. Although he's deactivated for the diagnostics tests, if you accidentally spark a connection, the BAT will go haywire. His vision sensors and processor in his chest plate will activate. You get a warning buzz while he warms up. Keep a steady hand while you figure out why he's malfunctioning before he reactivates and destroys you too. First get to the heart of the situation by checking his battery. Next tinker with his hydraulics, hoses, belts, direction processors (the compass), his kevlar shields, skeleton units, short wave frequency antenna, and don't forget to save his anti-inflammatory self-correct system (@$$ for short - that's the fire extinguisher - but that one is just for you guys - not my students).

I used a washer here to reinforce movement of the wire so it wouldn't cut into the computer cutout.

I think this is one of the most fun and imaginative things I've ever seen someone create around here.
Great job!

thats brilliant!!

Awesome! I figured you just took an old game and modified it (which would have been cool in itself), but this is even better!

That really makes my day. Thanks for the inspiring comments guys. It's prolly not front page material, but it's awesome to crank out a good idea every now and then! This was a prototype. Maybe I can make it better, although it's pretty good right now. I may not even touch it. I was going to make a set of cards to go with each piece so I can actually play a real game with it. It works perfectly. Connections are strong when the tweezers touch the foil. It's pretty annoying. If a BAT made this sound before attacking, I'd definately run! *G*
Great job!

No worries, something this imaginative doesn't dare stay hidden on the board for long. ;)
