We are working on it now. My parts were later getting to the casters than they should have been just because I have been watching my 2.5 year old daughter 6 days a week, 8-12 hours a day, and it was hard getting any work done. Plus, the GI Joe con is tripping us up a little, because more than half the people involved in the project will be attending, so that saps almost a week of getting stuff done.

We can say it will be another figure, even though I wanted to go back to HISS tanks, I can't argue with the success and popularity of the MH project. We are using basically the same formula we used on Metal-Head, there should be the same number available (so long as nothing catastrophic happens to either of the casters) and I will probably be working on it right up to the night before the show.

The figure's accessories will be a little bulkier than MH's, so we aren't sure how we are doing the blister just yet. It might not fit in the same size blister we used last time. We'll all have time to address the issues more after Joe con.
A.V.A.C.:
I can't swing it this year, but I will be there next year fo sho, no doubt.

It's just a mock up, note the amount of new stuff in un-painted plastic*.

Personally, i think it looks quite good, although it kinda pisses me off to keep seeing more and more exclusive stuff lol!

(not blaming the guy's hard work here!)
((wouldn't all the stuff fit on white shirt Duke/spirit blister?))

*i hope!
Troynos:
Salvo looks AWESOME. I want that. How many are going to be made?
cobracobra:
mind blown NJCC does a amazing job with there custom productions.
Stygian:
I wish the helmet in yellow didn't clash horribly with the otherwise drab brown of the rest of his gear, but otherwise he looks awesome! How can a non-attendee score one of these?
sbartek1974:
Salvo looks like a very, very easy custom! I have all the parts except for the head and gear.
Troynos:
I like the helmet, very Tiger Force-ish

Easy enough custom, easy pass. The Exclusivity of high visibility con customs is meh....if this was official form Hasbro I wouldd be rather miffed given how few are made lol...Salvo is an awesome character that needs/deserves a real official release.

omg anyone willing to help me get a hand on one of these? im all the way in florida :(

Well hopefully the finished product looks better. Kind of a bad parts selection though the missle launcher is cool.
KrymsynGardImmoral:
I can explain the line of thinking regarding how this came about.

Much like Metal-Head, this idea just came about by accident, when we were thinking about doing another tank. Destro really wanted to do a figure, but our choices were pretty limited within our current means, items available at retail, etc.

When the Salvo idea came up, we approached it exactly the same way we did MH. Stock figure, new vest (in this case, I sculpted/bashed it together myself, using a Rock-buck and a method Raginspoon found) new head/helmet, and rebuilt launcher using some of the vintage parts, topped off with additional gear from Marauder, Inc.

What you are looking at in the pic is the mock up with parts I just got from the casters at Joe Con last weekend. We are pretty far behind in terms of production, mainly due to my own procrastination getting the new parts to the casters, as well as Joe con being right in the middle of what would have been the caster's production time.

The launcher will have 2 removable missile, the other 3 are no removable. The removable missiles will be vintage ones, just to save some casting, and all will be painted the same color. The Launcher is the first pull from Nova's molds, and the color isn't perfect, but he'll get it better, I am sure.

The Yellow helmet is a nod to the vintage card art and the vintage 2up (currently in collector's hands), both showed the helmet was yellow with black tiger stripes, which was ultimately changed to the beige one we saw at retail. I thought this was good opportunity to give the original art a nod. There will be decals to make up the stripes, as well as the visor.

He will have new hands cast that are a combination of other Rock hands so he can hold the launcher. There will also be a dual launching plume, similar to MH, to simulate the rockets firing.

The main image has the decals photoshopped in place, I don't actually have the decals in hand yet.

He will have an assortment of Marauder weapons, including a custom M-4 that MJ put together for us.

We will have him in a resealable bubble, just like MH, with art by Dan Khanna and file card. Just like MH, expect 40 total pieces to be made (possibly a couple more if I get enough parts to cover them).

Here are some additional images of the mock-up, some things will change when the figures are GIVEN AWAY FREE TO ATTENDEES AT NJCC AS DOOR PRIZES AT THE END OF THE MONTH. The only way to get one from the show is to attend and win one. So, if you like it, and plan to attend, good luck! If you don't like it, well, you more than likely wouldn't have a chance to get one anyway.

I thought the opposite lol

I think it's a nice use for that huge Rockblock fig. The other combo that might for Salvo would be PoC Recondo but it'll be nearly impossible for them to find enough of him.

Rockblock is easy to find, it'll clear the pegs, and looks good enough. The extra equipment (Skydive/Pit commando mod vest) just adds to it, it's a modern update of a heavy weapons guy. It really suits him.

EDIT:
ninjad by KGI!

Troynos:
Krym, I love the helmet. Love easter eggs like that.

If got one, I'd use as part of Tiger Force and the helmet would be his concession to the TF uniform/style. Salvo doesn't strike me as the kind of guy that likes to conform.

Probably won't make the show, but would love to get ahold of one.

Good news is if ya cant get out to the show this looks like it should be a fairly easy figure to replicate.
Python_Puckman:
Pretty cool. At first glance I thought that was Sci-fi's helmet. I like it a lot more now that I've had a closer look.

Given this ---^ I can see why the yellow was used. I've only ever known the retail version (apparently didn't pay attention to the figures card art nearly closely enough), so when i saw this one I was understandably taken aback.

And cool that he'll be a FREE door prize! Sucks for those of us unable to attend, but that happens sometimes.

I'm really liking how the mock up looks. I can't wait to see it finalized. The vest looks very cool.

Thanks. The vest was the biggest issue. There is not a single vest we could find that fit that Rock figure. After we decided to use this body as a base, and picked up what we needed, I tried every vest I could find and only 2 were even close-Crossbones and the wave 2 Rock, neither of which I liked, and both really didn't fit without stretching and other adjustment. The vest that you see was put together on a special cast buck from all types of BBI parts, pouches, cut up Joe figure vests, and a lot of Apoxie to get it to look the way I wanted, and still have enough room for Spoon to engineer it into a vest.

I added the single shoulder pad (as well as the shoulder rest on the launcher) because as a kid, I couldn't imagine this guy launching 5 rockets from a box on a stick in his T-shirt. I thought he needed some support and protection.
5h4rK:
Nice job to everyone involved! That Salvo looks awesome so far!

Here's a closer look at the og. card art (thx to 3D Joes)

Thanks, I have been waiting for some kind of vintage Salvo info to be unearthed by the declass group to explain that whole change in the vintage line. I would be willing to bet it had to due with both cost and Tiger Force already being present at retail.

Salvo is a tough man you know..
Mr Hebime:
I'm looking forward to going my first convention and getting there early for a chance at this exclusive. I think it's a great figure, and am optimistic about it looking even better after it's painted.
Alyosha:
I saw this version of Salvo in person at Joe Con, and it looks pretty damn good. I am looking forward to seeing what the final piece looks like with the adjusted colors and actual stickers in place.

For those of you who are complaining "it's not like the original"...use your imagination and come on into the age of POC/30th Joe before you get left behind. It can't stay the 80's forever, no matter how much you want it to.
spike78a:
sgt slaughter's hands are huge! his fist is bigger than that dude's head.
Mermaniel:
Wow. Horrible.
A.V.A.C.:
Digging the mock up guys, can't wait to see the finished product.
Archangel_B4U:
man getting tired of the exculsives -_-

is it possable to get one without attending?
Ford:
This would have been more impressive if it had been shown a couple weeks ago. But Bad Sociologist posted a custom last week that is just perfect. Bad timing.
cmderinchief:
Horrible... Gyre has better customs.

...as always dude, nice work on managing this one. You and your team set the bar high last year and as a follow up, you did great.

Well, First, Bad Sociologist's customs are -usually- almost 100% Arah based.
Is not the case here.
Second, he does a lot of sculpting and handpainting, which is neither the case here.
Third, the guys here are making 40 of these carded with full new casted parts.
Not to mention figure availability: how many Rockblocks V2 have you seen vs V1s?

It's not fair to compare a one of a piece custom, 40 handmade figures.

Ask Bad Sociologist if he'd be able to make 40 of these sculpted, casted, handfinished with decals, and FREE.
(no offense to BS!)
