Comic Book Resources has posted their interview with the creative team behind G.I. Joe Origins #12, which is set for release tomorrow and focuses on The Baroness!
“G.I. Joe Origins” #12 reveals the early days of the Baroness, who left behind her wealthy aristocratic family to embark on a life of terrorism with Cobra. “As a kid, I was always fascinated by the Patty Hearst story (look her up, yung’uns!) and when Andy Schmidt (editor of all things ‘G.I. Joe’ at IDW) called me about doing a Baroness story, I immediately wanted to see what happened in her life that ultimately led her to Cobra,” writer Marc Andreyko told CBR. “Was she a good girl manipulated into doing bad or was this a life she actively pursued with the blinders off?“I love the fact that she is such a hard-core character,” Andreyko added. “In many ways, I find her far more intimidating than Destro or Cobra Commander, mostly because the Baroness more than holds her own in the testosterone-laden world of the Joes.
“And I have to give Hasbro some major props on this one. My story is a little darker, a little grittier than the normal Joe story and the folks at Hasbro were totally supportive about the direction. You never know how working with licensors will be, and this time was an absolute dream.”

Andreyko and Templesmith on ?G.I. Joe's? Baroness - Comic Book Resources
Templesmith is an interesting choice for a female lead. Preview pages look good.

Surprised about the comment on licensors, glad Hasbro let Andreyko go all out.

Well, the artwork looks way less confusing than I thought it would, but it looks too cartoony. I really don't understand this art style having fans, but at least it's not Ashley Wood.

While I'm not a big fan of the art samples shown, I agree that it will likely work with this story. The "new" Baroness has a very Morticia feel to her which I think the art will lend well to that aesthetic. Everytime I read the first Joe TPB I think of that song "Eurotrash Girl" by Cracker. That's the Baroness I know and love, and i'm glad that's the character we're seeing in this series. The writers take on it seems to be killer, and I can't wait to read it. She's always been one of my favorite characters and it's nice to see that they got a writer who really wants to explore who she really is, and treat the character with respect.

i'll place bets that it rocks as hard as cobra 2. these guys are both fantastic and i'm sure wil turn in a superior product when compared to the regular series.

What's up with that terrible artwork? It's blotchy and kind of silly looking. Are they just hiring random people off the streets for this? Yikes!
