Scoop: I just read this great news over at Yo Joe! but I'm not sure if anyone else has posted it yet.
Here is the link... Yo Joe! Magazine
Right now there are postings for these in trade paperback form over at Amazon.com
Here is the link for Classic GI Joe, Vol. 1 due out in (Jan. '09)... Amazon.com: Classic GI Joe, Vol. 1: Larry Hama, Herb Trimpe, Steven Grant, Don Perlin, Mike Vosberg: Books
Here is the link for Classic GI Joe, Vol. 2 due out in (Mar. '09)... Amazon.com: Classic GI Joe, Vol. 2: Larry Hama, Steven Grant, Mike Vosberg, Geoff Isherwood, Stephen Leialoha, Russ Heath, Frank Springer, Marie Severin: Books
This is very exciting news for anyone who was stuck with the first 5 volumes of the Marvel trade paper backs before they were canceled, as well as for new fans who would like to go back and read how it all started.
I hope they do the entire run this time because it would be a great way to be able to own some of the rarer issues like #155 in a trade paper back form without emptying out our pockets for it. fogger1138: I have the Marvel trades signed by Larry Hama - I'll probably get the IDW ones too, just so I've got them all in the same format.
I wonder if the page counts are right - 240 pages is about 10 issues, but the second trade lists: Quote: |
The original adventures of America's elite special-missions force continue with the recruitment of Roadblock and Duke; the emergence of the enigmatic ninja known as Storm Shadow; and the debut of the duplicitous Zartan, master of disguise!
| which would put it into the mid to late 20s... SNAKE EYES: Wow great news can't wait to read these stories again.
Nice Scoop Crimson Rage: The colouring on old comics always looks awful in modern trade paperbacks. Thank goodness I have the originals. mswi: thanks for the info. can't wait Derek2783: Wasn't there talk of it being a "best of" TPB, and not a complete release?
EDIT: Nevermind: All of 'em are coming out! blzjoe: wha no hardcover? 3 books to cover the full run would be really nice. that way maybe they wont cancel like before after 5 issues Shogi: I really hope the page counts are around the same as the Marvel TPB's, I really don't feel like buying 3 Trades I already have again Shin Densetsu: Each book is 240 pages....so thats roughly 8 issues per trade. AlternateUniverse Steeler: F Yeah!
Bout freaking time. artiepants: Quote:

I'd give anything to see those old books re-colored, that was the worst part about re-reading them recently. Imperial_Serpentor: I still want to complete my actual comic collection, but that's pretty awesome. I hope they go on to reprint all the devil's due main series in a similar format, even though I have it... it'd be great for travel reading. Syn3sthesia: Im clueless about comics so....does that mean 1-155? Derek2783: Quote:

- Cartoon Cobra Commander is wimpy. How will yours be?
Larry says he is just totally badass with a whole new depth of evil for him. He has to balance with Destro.
- Who's your fave character?
Robert says he always liked vehicle and gear. Sky Striker, Hiss tank.
Andy says Stalker is way cool. Only guy who could kick anyone's butt.
Hama - Snake eyes, because he's easy to write for.
- Will there be Ninjas in G.I.Joe?
Stories can get sidetracked by character popularity. They can take over. Some characters are not as popular as others. Have to bow to pressure of why isn't there more and are trying to work it out.
- Is this a relaunch of GI Joe or continues from Devils Due?
This is a relaunch and want to stay away from DD story by working with a clean slate and new ideas. Toys don't have so much influence on story now that they are out. They are going to be retelling the story from day 1 and be as faithful to characters as possible, but have to deal with 25 years and work it as new with same guys. - How many Marvel comic will be reprinted?
All Marvel comics. BOMBSHELLMIKE: I dont have the first original books, also any re-releases, Im so stoked to get these, I hope its from #1 to the last, my kids will love this (when they learn to read)!LOL Mr. Strick9: Awesome news and crazy timing. I was just hunting for volumes 4 & 5 of the previous trades earlier today and they've gotten expensive! I'm glad I didn't buy them!
I hope they print the entire run this time as well. There's a good chance they will, since they've got the movie hype to ride on. Even though movie spin-offs don't really help sell tons of comics. Imperial_Serpentor: Quote:

Hmm... does all Marvel include 3D? Special Missions, European Missions(action force), Yearbooks, and Order of Battle (very important to have both Rocky Balboa and retraction of Rocky Balboa). Hit & Run: There is no way I am missing these. With how us 'Tankers pre-order who knows how long these will be available.
Pre-Order placed. I love Amazon.
And thanks for the news! Good way to start the day. Crimson Rage: It would be nice if, when a Special Missions issue 'spun out' from the main series, IDW re-printed in alongside the story it originated from (the SM story about Outback on the run for example. That really needs to be included in the trade that features ARAH issue #61) fogger1138: Quote:

I'd give anything to see those old books re-colored, that was the worst part about re-reading them recently. | The Marvel collections did have 240 pages each. I'm wondering if that's a misprint or bad info in the Amazon.com solicits, based on what they say they're including (see my previous post). Quote:

and yes, for those who can do math... 240 pages is 10 issues. Batmandk02: Now wait... Are these going to be the TPB's of the 1980's comics?? I thought they already had out Vol's 1 - 5 which was 50 comics?? Are they going to just reprint those again?? I am on the need-to-know basis because I have a friend that has Vol's 1,2,3,& 5.. but #4 has gotton so damn expensive that it's quite ridiculous. So if they do this I hope they have enough to go around everywhere because I know people are gonna flock to these. Imperial_Serpentor: Quote:

Yes these are reprints if the 80s and early 90s comics by Larry Hama and published by marvel. eleavitt2000: They'd be better off doing the whole run on one CD-Rom like what M6D did unofficially a while back. What M6D was beautiful. artiepants: Quote:

I'm guessing the contents of the first 5 will be nigh-identical to the Marvel trades minus Marvel logos an MAAAAAYYYYYBE new covers.
Edit: and i want Special Missions traded up, like, yesterday. travisc: SWEET!!!!
I only hope that the new TPB's follow the same order as the original Marvel's (each one approx. 10 chronologically correct issues). Heck, it would by kind of dyNOmite if they used some of the original Marvel covers for the trades too... maybe like for vol. 2 (issues 11-20), they use that same cover from issue 11, which debut the 2nd wave of Joes for the first time ever (Doc, Snow Job, & the snow mobile.... YO JOE!) Cravax Deathbringer: Its about damn time! darth_henning: I'm really looking forward to this. I got all the Marvel Trades when they came out some years ago, but they stopped around 50. This time we should get all the originals reprinted like IDW did for Transformers. nacho: Quote:

Except for the fact that IDW did not reprint but a small fraction of the Marvel TF run.
I hope they don't leave us hanging the way they did the TF books. murphbri: Nice to see these listed for pre-order, but the thing I want to know before I buy is whether or not IDW is going to digitally recolor the series. Imperial_Serpentor: hmm... I wonder if when they get to the Megatron arc they'll include the one issue of Transformers Gen 2 that ties that storyline up (since they have that license as well... and it was still half a GI Joe story). SmokedPorter: This is great news. I finally found all my old comic books, & I've only got 6 GI Joe comics.
I wish I could go back in time and keep all my old Joe toys & cards. |
