“We are thrilled at the prospect of expanding our relationship with IDW. They’ve done an outstanding job with Transformers in the comic/hobby segment, national bookstores and mass market chains,” said Matt Gildea, Publishing Director, Hasbro. “IDW would bring that same expertise to the G.I. JOE brand in both new content and the existing G.I. JOE vs. COBRA library. Together, Hasbro and IDW would continue to engage G.I. JOE fans of all ages with amazing graphics and storylines.”
“G.I. JOE will be a perfect extension of the partnership we’ve developed with Hasbro over the past three years,” said Ted Adams, IDW’s President. “We are ecstatic about the opportunity to build upon the great history of the G.I. JOE brand and to present the type of entertainment and storytelling that our readers enjoy from our many licensed properties.”

In April 2008, IDW released Michael Recycle, the first title from its new children’s book imprint, Worthwhile Books. More information about the company can be found at http://www.idwpublishing.com | shlappyguy: So, for people who would know... Is this a good thing? X-factorz: cool...thanks for posting this Cobra-La: Thanks for the news. This confirms the long running rumor. Now we just need to find out what they're going to do in terms of story and continuity. Cataclizm1: IDW tells pretty good stories with TFs. Unfortunately they charge $3.99 an issue. Marvel and DC charge $2.99 usually. I didn't buy the last JOE series so I dunno what the cover price was.
Hopefully they start a new continuity, or reboot it. Enough of this Lady jaye is dead crap. Nemesis*Prime: G.I. Joe AND Transformers under one roof again . . . this could get interesting. slim19722: Cool, also seems like we can expect to see the rest of the Marvel reprints too. Deckard: well to put forth the glass if half empty view here, IDW is know for incoherent storylines, no sense one shots and being late with getting issues out. Hopefully G.I. Joe will be better than what they've done with transformers and hopefully they WILL reboot and not just follow this really butchered continuity where Cool people have died and dumb ones havent :> xFlintx: I think the first issue should open up with Lady Jaye and Flint in bed, whenre Flint wakes up and said I just had a horrible dream, and you died. Then they could just restart from the end of Marvel vadersquest: This could be interesting. I got into the last series late, around WW3 story line. I read the first series and I felt it was fragmented, not near as good as the Marvel run. I have high expectations for this series and maybe a partial reboot would be good. I say they start the series 10-15 years after the marvel run. At least that way we would have some continuity and like someone else said, some deaths were wrong. I would love to have Lady J back and Hawk as the commander in charge again. Just my 2 cents. jjk1120: I would love to get reprints of the entire run of Marvel's GI Joe in TBP like they did a few years ago. I have Issues 1-50 in the 5 volumes. To me, that's the best way to read comics. Reprinted in TPBs like that. Amberbratt: Quote:

then snake eyes pops his head out from under the covers and says "
TOOOOOOOOOASTY!"
LoL
Then Flint wakes up screaming.
looks over... and spoons with ...................lol never mind
but if you know me you know where I could go with this Irid70: Uh, the article seems to say that it is a reboot. From the article:

Um, also, if it picks up from the end of the Marvel run, it would be set in 1995? I say let the 25 years of continuity rest and start a new continuity with re-imagined characters. By this point folks like Duke, Stalker, and Snake-Eyes would be well past the age of taking field assignments. Time for an update. I haven't ever read anything IDW has done, so I'll go into this with an open mind.
I do like that it says they plan to rerelease the Marvel comics, though. artiepants: here's the official press release: Quote:

Also I agree with you guys, Let's get Lady Jaye back alive with Flint where she belongs!!! artiepants: Color me disappointed, i'm just not a fan of IDW. artiepants: Quote:

Also I agree with you guys, Let's get Lady Jaye back alive with Flint where she belongs!!! | Oct. 2008 according to the press release ;) shlappyguy: Remember how Larry Hama wasn't able to talk about the comics license because of a confidentiality agreement? Do you think that maybe that's because he will actually be involved in the new comic? Crimson Rage: Very mixed feelings from me...
On the one hand I dread multiple six-part mini-series, while on the other I see the potential in character "Spotlight" one-shots (as long as they're not done like the vague & meandering Transformers ones)
With IDW's Star Trek titles being awful (IMO) and the many TF series taking forever to go nowhere, my hopes aren't high. Even their reprints of Marvel TF comics are so piecemeal as to be wortless. ~Synder Corps.~: Quote:

Hopefully they start a new continuity, or reboot it. Enough of this Lady jaye is dead crap. | Ah, the days of a dollar-somethin' comics....long gone. :( Crimson Rage: As long as Simon Furman goes nowhere near the book (unlikely) then I'll give it a few issues. He's turned Transformers into such an unrewarding slog (again, in my opinion) that reading one of his minis is like wading in treacle.
Here's to Joe being treated a bit better. At least IDW have some good artists and aren't afraid of inkers. ~Synder Corps.~: It's been years since I picked up a comic. I stopped cause my arse made better stories than ANY of the companies were putting out...and IDW was the nail in the coffin...I pickedup the first few issues of their TF run...GAK!
They TRIED to bring back the esque feel of Marvel's series...
...failed miserably.
They may have gotten better since then...Gods know a lot of Marvel, DC, and other higher rung companies haven't...imo...
I'm not holding my breath for a grand re-establishment of this series in comic form...unless they get Joss.
All hail the WHEDON! The only demigod who can take exhausted and overused characters and crap something readable and emotional (ie: Astonishing X-Men 1-6)
My 2 cents artiepants: i was really hoping Marvel'd get it back. Seems like there'd be a nice symmetry with Marvel and Hasbro both working with Paramount. Gerrorism!: Quote:

Here's to Joe being treated a bit better. At least IDW have some good artists and aren't afraid of inkers. | I always thought Simon Furman was the driving force behind making TF so good! Atleast back in the marvel days... havnt read much TF since. slim19722: I don't read Transformer's comic's, but I liked what IDW did with the Joe/Transformers crossover, so if it's as good as that, I'll be pleased. cornbot: thank god, idw has the best paper stock for one. and decent writers G.I. Smurf: kills it for me. guess i wont be reading anymore as i hate what they did with transformers. to be honest i could even read the story because the stupid art was so horrible. SITHLOU33: DD tried a reboot with gi joe reloaded and that wasn't so great. I hope IDW starts where DD leaves off with the WWIII series. Gothiczartan: does it means the story will continue after the events of gijoe america's elite series in the same continuity?
if they can do a different story, that is fine with me.
I'll exam the gijoe/transformers comic series with other joe story books to make it look like it fits in the another joe continuity while the joe has its own main continuity (since marvel gijoe#1). Deckard: well the problem with reloaded was it tried to pull a lucas and change what had already been well established back stories and events. If IDW doesnt biff it up like they did with transformers and damn near every other property they've aquired and keep it as true to original as possible AND Larry Hama is pullin the reigns and simon furman stays several galaxies away from this book i think MAYBE then it might stand a chance. but thats all hoping that logic is at work here. lol Crimson Rage: Quote:
Originally Posted by Gerrorism! I always thought Simon Furman was the driving force behind making TF so good! | I agree that way back when, Furman did some great stuff, especially on the UK comic.
His IDW stories on the other hand... 30 odd issues and I can't tell you what's going on. Everything is so fragmented and portentious, with characters spewing technobabble & pretentious ramblings about "fundamental" changes that are coming (I wish!)
That's just my take though. Many seem to love his IDW work. nacho: I don't think we'll get a straight continuity continuation, but the release says it's follows the "lore" of the Joe v Cobra battles. Thus it could be some amalgamation of the comic, the cartoon, and whatever modern-day direction they want to go.
While I really dislike the current TF series by IDW, I do appreciate that they kept the G1-style comic totally separate from the TF movie, and I'm pleased to read that they'll be taking that same approach with Joe and the Joe movie. I just hope IDW doesn't produce Joe comics in the "endless string of miniseries and oneshots" fashion that they do TF. That makes collecting confusing, and 6 months later I can't recall which series goes where if I ever want to reread. No, I'm not retarded, I just prefer my comics sequentially numbered. Collecting comics for decades has trained me to expect that. Call me crazy. Iron Spider-Man: Quote:

The underlined and bolded line being the most important. The fact that they say "based on classic ... lore" is probably a good thing (tm). Lo-Wan Bing: I'm just glad Marvel didn't get it.really. I liked the America's Elite title and I loved the Marvel circa 1 - maybe 50 but they were just too sci-fi for me after that (not that the whole g.i.joe universe isn't choke full of science fiction, it just was sort of let loose in the Marvel series... I know, not really Marvel's fault because they only printed was Hasbro was pushing...) Anyways, I'm looking forward to IDW. some of their TF stuff (Dark Ages, Beast Wars) has been OK... And I'm really excited about a re-boot. It's needed... badly... Twin Sunset: i'm more for this than against it. while i agree that the TF series is slow, i still like it well enough. it's a unique twist with fresh plots instead of yet ANOTHER retelling of the original 80s stories. (not that there's tons on rehashing, but i much perfer originality)
and not to be rude with no seniority here, but it sounds like a lot of people just want the original comic again. "if it follows marvel continuity with hama writing"... sorry, but i'd have to disagree. have hama write but with a new take on it, or continue current stories but with different writers. having both seems too much like trying to build a time machine, so to speak. i've always said on other boards that things change and no modern version will be like the original (with hollywood versions especially). i like to sit back and enjoy new directions.
....unless it really sucks. then i RAGE! Crimson Rage: I don't really care who writes the comic or what continuity it follows. As long as there are interesting and (more importantly for me) likeable characters in evenly paced stories, I'll be quite happy.
For me, the major failing of RELOADED was that everyone (even the Joes) was so unlikeable that I couldn't give a hoot about what happened to them. fogger1138: Quote:
