spazzy:

Deckard:
whats with the big hands and feet art style? Why must everything resemble sigma SUX!!!!
Zefram:
I hope the interior art looks a little better that that. -_-
xhairs:
man i hope the art work is better inside.
Warrant Officer Flint:
That looks sweet! When are these coming out?
Lo-Wan Bing:
Awesome! I dig the art style and look. Can't wait for this one!
paulpratt:
WTF? Is this Predator? No one can actually carry a Gatling gun.
delta:
I was hoping not to get crappy art this time. Storm Shadows comic had cool art though

Everybody thinks they're friggin' Jesse Ventura. Nothing compares with an old Silver Sable comic I saw that had a guy with two on each arm. My desire to laugh and cry at the same time cancelled each-other out.
esg2145:
When is the IDW run supposed to start?
mswi:
    i think i read october
CG76:
They should call the comics GI Joe Animated. Looks to be geared towards kids. I like the old Marvel style better.

it think it looks really tough and gritty, but i agree, it does have a very S6 feel to it...

correct me if i'm wrong but didn't S6 not do so well?...why do they insist on jamming it down our throats...first the movie is all S6, and now the comic...i really need a better look at the new toon to see if that has the S6 cancer as well...

Not really to me, the art was only good in 2 issues.

January, but this issue(#0) will be released in October as a preview of sorts.
GGPiKE:
    This makes me miss DDP.
Kaisugi:
That looks like box art to a Duke Sigma 6 toy. But remember that cover art and interior art are rarely the same thing.
Dr. Henry E. Miller:
Aahahahha hoollly shit thats bad fanart quality right there.

Don't insult fanartists. I could do better ten years ago. :P
Gulfster:
Looks like SIGMA SUCKS !!!!! Give DDP back the rrights I say or at least don't make it look so lame.
Crimson Rage:
That's the cover designed to launch a brand new Joe continuity to the world? IDW have fudged it already...
Giving Duke (I presume) that gun is so trite & predictable too: GI Joe is hardly about the mindless, OTT destruction that it suggests.

And what's with all the bottles floating around Duke's head..?
That was rhetorical by the way. I know they're badly drawn cartridges...

    It's ONE IMAGE!

Exactly. Cover art usually has very little to do with the inside art.

I do notice though that this is marked as #1 and not #0.
jamarmiller:
Im not buying this book as Im just not interested in reading an alternate reality ( sad as this is the first time in 20 some years I wont be buying and reading GI JOE or comics for that matter)

but I thought the art was VERY good, I love it
Lo-Wan Bing:
Dang... for a G.I.Joe fan site lots of folks sure hates on some G.I.Joe. I would have thought a fan commumity would be excited about a new Joe book about to hit the stands, I know I am!

One image yes, but one intended to usher in a new era of Joe and hopefully gain a large new readership. As such, I don't really think it gives the right impression of the franchise.

Personally, I'll always prefer the 'dynamic cast shot' as seen on both Marvel and DDP's premier issues (unless that's being saved for IDW's #1)

I couldn't agree more! This is just lame!
morgana08:
I agree that often times cover art and the art inside the comic are two very different things. Though I've found many times the better art on the outside and the bad art on the inside. #0 issues are rarely known to be great and often I don't see the sense they serve but I'll give it a shot. It looks better than Dark Horse's version a few years back.
SportingViper:
I really hope that Hama didn't come up with that cover idea. He's much to military smart then to have Duke parachuting and firing such a large and heavy weapon. I don't mind the style of the art(not my cup of tea).
BigErn:
I don't hate the cover, I'm certainly not floored by it though. I agree with what was said about zero issues though, usually lackluster art and a quick intro to characters. Anyway, I'm excited for the new book and although in the past I was very much against a reboot, a reboot is what we're getting and I'm glad we're getting something. I'll be following the new GI Joe comic and I'm looking forward to what they're going to do with it.

Because the guy that drew those big ass hands and feet was hitting the sauce too much

No kidding! Imagine firing 'Ol Painless from what I'd imagine is the least stable platform you could ever find. The recoil alone would have him spinning around like crazy and have him tangled in his lines faster than you could say "I ain't got time to bleed!"
Deckard:
well lets hope IDW is just toying around with this kind a art work and its not the norm but more of a normal....not cartoony style much like DDP and early marvel but more updated. GEt joss wheedon and john cassiday to pen this book with Hama and you have a sure fire winner. And the artwork and stories would rock like no other.

Yeah stuff like this better not happen within the comic IDW or else i'm out. Keep it military realistic please. That cover just looks so amateur and fanboyish done by people who know nothing about the military or physics.

Well they say you can't judge a book by it's cover.

comics may be the exception to the rule tho. lol!

You have the IRON KLAW as your avatar but you're not interested in "alternate realities"?

I think of the entire DDP run as an alternate reality.

    Or a nightmare.

A looooong, boring, poorly written and drawn nightmare.

Not really. Storm Shadow book-AWESOME covers. Interiors for 5 of 7 issues:What happened?!

I doubt its going to be the norm. Marvel was guilty of the same thing. Anyone remember J.Scott Campbell's drawings for the Marvel trades? As a matter of fact...I wonder if the new cover is by him....

I think Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting would be a great creative team to work in coordination with Hama. If that team can work with a very questionable idea of killing off Captain America and replacing him with his lame sidekick Bucky who should have stayed dead, and actually make it a great storyline, they could work wonders with G.I. Joe. I was completely against the idea for that storyline, but Brubaker is a freaking genius, and Epting is great, very good ink work.

Hama hates it when artists do that.

As some of the previous posters have said, I really hope this isn't indicative of the art we'll see inside. I have been away from Joe for probably 20 years, so I was actually happy to hear that a new comic continuity was about to start... since I have no clue what has happened since somewhere around Marvel 50. However, if the art is going to look this cartoony, I can't see myself reading it. I'll reserve final judgement until I see it in person, but what I'm seeing here and what I'm hearing about next year's movie are giving me a bad feeling... obviously these aren't aimed at kids if they are going with a PG13 rating level, so if you are aiming them at the adults why 50mph power suits and out of scale drawings of situations that defy the laws of physics?

That cover art isn't by the series artist Robert Atkins. That is Jonboy Meyers who if you ask me, is waaaaaaay overrated and a total ripoff artist. This might be an alternate cover. If not, the interior is supposed to be by a different artist.

Good to know. I certainly see the point of waiting to read it before passing judgment, and I shall. I will also give it a good five to ten issues before passing judgment, but as big a deal has been made about the relaunch, about IDW getting the license, how can you go with that as the first thing anyone sees of the title? The cover is supposed to make you want to see what is inside the book, and that certainly doesn't work here.
Shin Densetsu:
IDW LOVES variant covers, so I would not be surprised if this is one of 4, and not the actual regular cover.
Imperial_Serpentor:
I actually loved most of the Devil's due run except at the start of America's Elite... I have mixed feelings about this reboot but I'm going to read it for about a year anyway and see where it goes. I'm just not sure what Larry can do different this time out that will make it interesting and at the same time not piss me off. Well as long as Storm Shadow is still muchly the same.
