GI Joe Origins #14 Cover Colors And Inks GI-Joe-Origins-14-Final-Tom-Feister
HISS Tank boards member Tom Feister has posted both the inked and colored versions of the G.I. Joe Origins #14 cover on his deviantart page. This cover was done as an experiment. Here's what he had to say:"

I wanted to try my version of what a woodcut would look like. The story takes place in a jungle setting and I looked at some South American art and the bright vibrant colors they use. The last few covers have been very representational for me and I wanted to take a step away from that and get back to something
more graphic. I'm very lucky to work with people that give me free reign to experiment.

So there seems to be a lot of emphasis placed on Rip Cord's death. A dagger in the skull with dogtags and his name spelled R.I.P. on the other cover. Is this too much foreshadowing or just false suspense?
Trooper13:
Hmmm...Maybe Cruz's handle was really Ripcord, and WW just adopts it, and leaves his tags with Cruz's remains to fake his death?

Oh yeah, and the cover looks great. Very cool.
Monkeywrench:
    I like it
KushViper:
    wow! Dude can really draw!
rip_cord:
    another great cover tom!

i'm excited to see how this 2-part story unfolds...
monkeywrench1988:
nice cover, btw does anyone know if Tom had plans change on his appearance at the Emerald City Comicon? I was looking forward to getting his autograph and didn't see his name on the updated guest roster
alcoholic ewok:
That looks pretty awesome and so far none of the issues have been a letdown.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out for Ripcord's origin...seeming like it might involve some kind of backstab on a mission or something.

Also can't wait to see what they do with less popular characters from later years in the line. Hopefully the series will get that far!!

He won't be going, he posted the following on his deviantart page:

I had to cancel on Emerald City Comic-Con this weekend. My wife is very close to delivery of our second kid and it's been a far more difficult pregnancy than the first. I just don't feel comfortable being so far away with only 4 weeks to go. I will be there next year! Go see my friends at Studio Revolver and say hello!
Troynos:
Very nice cover. The last few have been really great.
monkeywrench1988:
ok, that's cool til next year then

Didn't Weems take Cruz's knife in the 5 page preview? The knife does say Ripcord.
tom feister:
Often I have to design the cover before I have the script. I'll know story points but not details. The covers are not literal representations of the story inside, but enough to give you a tease.
tom feister:
We are very close and I would feel terrible if I missed the birth of my daughter. I'll be at the Seattle show next year for sure. Sorry!

STOP TOYING WITH OUR EMOTIONS, TOM!!! ;)

Congratulations on the upcoming new addition to your family!
Immortal_Joker:
    Congrats Tom

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was Mike Zeck's cover to G.I. Joe #43. That was the first comic I ever bought with my own money and had some similar themes.

I love the non-literal representation covers, especially when they add to mystery or intrigue in the issue at hand. This one's easily one of my favorites.
