Shin Densetsu:
GI Joe Origins #13 features an awesome cover by Tom Feister, and features Ripcord. This is part 1 in Ripcord's struggle to survive a mission gone wrong in the jungles of Africa.

SL Gallant handles the art chores for this issue and his inks maintain the higher clarity witnessed in his recent issues of GI Joe. This is an improvement over his work on the movie books last year, and a welcome change. The crisp and clean inkwork lends itself to a more polished look.

This issue has the tension of survival infused with comedy by Ripcord. The funny thing about him is that he actually doesn't want to be called Ripcord. In the military, you rarely ever get to pick your call sign, so I find it funny that he is pretty much stuck with that name. It was funny to read what his preferred names are, even funnier to realize he'll never get those names.

Ripcord does remind me of his movie incarnation, judging by which service he wants to be in as opposed to the one he actually is in, and that he cracks jokes. This guy is eager to fly, but not in the way he is shown flying in the issue. I get the feeling that he will be the Joe that always wants what he can't have, and has the misfortune of having pretty bad luck, despite being pretty lucky. Ironic, but you'll see why in this issue.

What's it going to take for Ripcord to survive in the next issue? Does Ripcord have what it takes? He's got a stroke of luck but how long will it last? This issue was pretty interesting and one hell of an entertaining introduction for Ripcord. A good read, and I look forward to part 2 of Ripcord's struggle.
Monkeywrench:
    thanks for the review
Troynos:
Sounds good. Well, they didn't get rid of him being a HALO jumper.

I like how IDW is handling the codenames. Beachhead was given his, no choice, and now it looks like the same with Ripcord.

Ripcord wants to be in the Air Force and fly jets and as such the code names he wants(but will never get) sound VERY familiar. Pretty cool nod to the fans.
rip_cord:

Thanks for the review but I wish you titled it 'Early' somehow. I thought I lost a day for a moment there....

I thought it was strange he was bald. I was thinking that's not Ripcord it's miniRoadblock.
DTR281:
honestly for me this is a waste of 2 issues. im not a fan of the movie version of ripcord which is what the writers based this issue and the next on. They took elements from the movie with all the jokes and just plan stupidity. Ripcord needs to go back to his original roots but just modernize him. they should keep the movie vers seperate. just my two cents.

    absolute garbage
this hollywoodized version of one of my all-time favorite characters has totally and completely ruined the origins line for me
Breakerfan:
I have not read this issue yet but I hope it is better than that awful Baroness issue. That one pretty much ended origins for me.
tom feister:
