The stunning conclusion to the well-received G.I. Joe Cobra series by IDW has hit shelves today. We've seen Chuckles go past the point of no return while infiltrating the inner sanctum of Cobra, or so we thought.
With a lot of familiar sights, the revelation of familiar characters, artificial intelligence troopers, explosions, and buildings burning to the ground, this series literally concludes with a bang. How did it turn out? Click on the discuss button below to check out the review!

The conclusion of this series ups the ante and sets Chuckles up for revenge. This is an issue where most of your questions throughout the series are answered. With the death of Jinx firmly on his mind, Chuckles is determined to destroy Cobra, no matter what.
There are a lot of familiar sights to see in this book. The red Cobra soldiers that we’ve seen before turn out to be Crimson Guards; as most of us thought. The Crimson Guards are seen unmasked, and they don’t all have the same face. H.I.S.S. Tanks, and what look like stealth drones are also shown around the base. While walking through the base, Chuckles gives a breakdown of how Cobra operates and courts it’s customers through organized chaos.
The beginning of this issue foreshadows Chuckle’s fate; we can tell that it is the last time that he will see some of his “friends”. It’s truly the beginning of the end for him. It turns out that he is also put in charge of an AI(Artificial Intelligence) program for very familiar robotic soldiers…..who come in handy later on.
Suspense is constant, and kept at an all time high in this issue, it’s hard to predict what will happen after each page. As a result, the issue is an exciting read from beginning to end. Part of the excitement stems from the revelations of reoccurring characters, regarding their true identities.
It turns out that X has had a twin this entire time, and both had fun playing mind games with Chuckles. The twin’s name starts with a T, so you can guess who these guys are(hint: ever wonder why the Crimson Guards were in this series?). The twins reveal what they know about Chuckles, and in this turn of events it seems like Chuckles’ mission has become a failure, with nothing accomplished.
Cobra remains secretive and as readers, we only know what G.I. Joe knows about them; barely anything. When IDW said that Cobra was going to be portrayed as a more serious threat, they weren’t kidding. It’s especially evident in this issue. General Hawk sent Chuckles on a mission that didn’t do a thing to Cobra, all the information gained was fed to him purposely.
Hell we haven’t even seen Cobra Commander yet! Not even all of Cobra. If the Crimson Guard alone is this dangerous….
As Chuckles bids farewell to one “friend”, Erika can’t find it in her heart to say goodbye and Chuckles lives to see another day. His AI “help” doesn’t really come in handy, and Chuckles is left reflecting on who he is; neither Joe or Cobra, just a man on a mission.
It’s no wonder why this series will continue through special issues; Chuckles’ work isn’t done. Judging by what happened in this issue, it seems like his true mission hasn’t even started.
This issue left me itching to see the continuation of this series, through the upcoming special books. It’s an exciting issue and definitely the highlight of the series; just when we think Chuckles has infiltrated the inner sanctum of Cobra, we find out he hasn’t even scratched the surface. It concluded with Chuckles ready to embark on a bigger mission.
It feels like the real battle against Cobra has just started. Hawk’s desperate measures have become useless, and Cobra ultimately has the upper hand. Chuckles is left with nothing but revenge on his mind. I look forward to what IDW has for this title, and Chuckles.
