"Q) In the last Q&A, you stated that the Pursuit of Cobra would hit stores in "the back half" of 2010. Does that mean the products shown at Joecon last year as part of the Pursuit of Cobra theme have been delayed? Or is that product still considered "Rise of Cobra" product and will still ship in the first half of the year, with a full "rebranding" in the later half with product that hasn't yet been unveiled (and probably won't until Toy Fair)?

A) The Pursuit of Cobra (POC) themed items will be released in fall 2010 and will replace The Rise of Cobra. Much of the product shown at JoeCon in 2009 is being adapted to the POC theme and will launch in fall 2010 with a never before seen packaging line look. This new look will be revealed over the next few months. The Rise of Cobra figures and packaging will no longer be shipped in fall 2010."

So I guess there will be another "re-branding" from the movie line. I wonder if any of the "leaked" card art that has been popping up is legit?

That's a shame about the Mighty Muggs. I was looking forward to them.

Honestly guys, I'm glad we're getting a vacation from the crazy-epic spending the months leading up to the holidays were.

We learned that there's a web cartoon coming. That's what we learned.

We learned that the wave of Mighty Muggs was canceled.

We learned that SOME of what we've seen already will get repackaged for PoC which is a rebranding coming in Fall 2010.

Hell, i'm excited for the web based cartoon. Operation: HISS which is the name of the RoC-Continuity comic book, makes it sound like it'll be RoC and not Resolute based.

Possibly will serve as a lead-in for the rebranding of RoC to PoC.

Which would be very cool.

I fear the toon will be ROC too. but if it's free and web based, i'm sure I'll watch it.

Learning about the toon is actually news and that's surprising. Maybe we will learn more info from other Q and A's.

I'm really looking forward to the webtoon, I'm hoping it goes well and we actually get a real toon later on. Bummer on having to wait til the fall for new PoC figures and vehicles, though. Some of the sneak peaks we've seen have been really killer.

Much of the product is being adapted, not all. Which means we'll see some stuff between now and fall.

So...what the hell is being released for the next 6-8 months?

Toy Fair is only a month away. I'm sure we'll see the POC packaging there. However, will they show any product that will be released before POC? Maybe one last wave of ROC with some figures like reactive armor Breaker? There has to be something coming out in the first half of this year. Why schedule an animated series, if there's no product to support it? What an odd decision.

I guess they figure it'll take another 6+ months to move through the current ROC stuff. Not a good sign to retailers. They're going to reduce space for Joe items. Meaning POC might be ordered in really small numbers.

Also, a web based animated series doesn't follow the same "rules" as a tv series. It doesn't reach as broad an audience, so isn't necessarily used for advertising like a normal cartoon.

So it's not that odd a decision. Besides, they said later this year.

Chances are that it'll start with the release of PoC or end and PoC gets released, serving as a transition from RoC story to PoC story.

great. now can we finally put to bed calling the ROC product coming out in ROC packaging POC which is now officially something different.

They said the animated series starts early this year. Since it's got HISS in the title, the new HISS must be coming out before POC. Therefore, we can guess that new VAMP is coming soon, too.

We know the Snow Cat rerelease and RAGE are coming too.

YoJoe's answers indicate new single figures as well:

YoJoe: There are rumors everywhere, in all corners of the fandom, that Pursuit of Cobra has been pushed back to mid or late 2010. If that is the case, will we still have new items on the shelves for this spring and summer?

Hasbro: We do have new some releases under the ROC line. These include exclusives and some new single figures.

Maybe the first couple waves of figures that were scheduled Jan/Feb 2010 and the leftover Alpha ROC vehicles that were pushed back. We've seen the TRU Arctic Shipwreck and Doc on ROC cards, so probably them too. Plus the Rip it vehicles and the ROC Swamp Raider. Target exclusives wave 3. A few things.
and I wouldn't get my hopes up for that Breaker. They've said in the past they have no plans for it. Too bad too. I'd like one as well.

Figures.com: 2) For the 2010 Pursuit of Cobra line, rumors are floating around that the core characters will no longer be using the head sculpts/scans from the movie actors but rather go back to being original designs/sculpts. Can you comment on this potential change?

I'm glad the Mighty Muggs question was asked. I loved that line and wanted it to continue. I'm glad it's status has now been cleared up. Not a wasted question at all.

Any animation/media for a toyline is essentially advertising for that product. Resolute was obviously designed to have toy line-ins, but the line was moved around to make room for movie stuff. Now the figures will be delayed.

Very rarely is an animation project based on a toyline conjured up just for pure entertainment value. As others have stated, it's most likely serving as a bridge between ROC and POC and will obviously feature character and vehicle designs for the current and upcoming toys. It's designed to keep interest in the toys and sell them.

I don't think it has anything to do with that as much as it makes much more sense to release a line in the fall which will enable it to get off to a hot start with the holidays in a quicker time frame rather then risking it early in the year and laboring through non-holiday sales. by waiting until the fall they are contriving success by making the toys new and hot and not giving consumers time to get bored with it before the holidays.

not everything has to indicate some sort of failure of ROC.

Again it wasn't a wasted question a lot of members wanted this question asked.

Will items such as the Desert Ambush Zartan wave, Toys R Us wave 3 (like Arctic Doc) or wave 3 Target deluxe figures, be released prior to this, or will we not see new GI Joe product in stores this Spring?



Joe Team: The exclusives will hit this spring and the new mainline Pursuit of Cobra items will hit later in the year, including the Desert Ambush Zartan.



Bill: Have the Then and Now 2-packs been cancelled, or do the recently-leaked packaging mock-ups suggest these will see retail release in 2010?



Joe Team: We will not be releasing any new exclusive ‘Then and Now’ packs for 2010. Beyond 2010, however; may be a different story as our collection grows and evolves...



Bill: Aside from the Resolute multi-pack, will we see any non-movie Joe toys, such as the prototype Iron Klaw figure revealed several months ago, at some point this year?

Hey, I actually like ROC. I wasn't trying to slam it. You just can't deny that there's still a lot of product for it that needs to move through at retail. Hence the radical price drop at stores.

They did the same thing last year leading up to ROC. They didn't ship much Joe product so shelves could clear for ROC. Same thing is happening this year. There's just a lot more ROC to get through than there was Anniversary stuff.

Yep. But there was alot more RoC stuff ordered then anniversary.

But yes, we'll still have some new Joe stuff on the shelves and the big "launch" in the fall.

Also, I have a friend who works directly with toy companies. Launching a toyline in the fall is not the best idea. At least one that has massive media support, such as a movie tie-in line. For those types of toylines, they want store space, as in endcaps and special displays. The holidays take up a lot of this valued shelf space. It's easier to secure this kind of space in the spring or summer. It's a major reason why the Green Lantern movie was pushed to a summer release from their initial fall release plans. They want store space for merchandise.

Go ahead and make one. The fact is that we pick the questions to ask based on the best ones that get asked the most in the threads.

Sorry you think it was wasted. There are plenty of people who don't think it was.

There was some great questions asked by the Tank. I'm excited for the new web based animation, & the fact we know the Muggs aren't delayed any longer & are actually cancelled. Also we know that we will see a full POC launch in fall for sure with some items in ROC from now until then.

I knew this was happening, it seemed likely that Hasbro would drop the actors likenesses at some point in 2010 so the toy line could become more profitable without unneeded licensing, this phase is happening sooner than expected.

Once again it was a question members wanted asked... now let's drop it everyone.
