GI Joe 2011 Q&A Round 2 Answers

Hasbro-Logo-280px-wide
GI Joe 2011 Q&A Round 2 Answers

1) Will the environmental themes from poc continue in the 30th anniversary line, like arctic threat, jungle assault, etc.

A) We've decided to move away from the environmental themes for the 30th anniversary.

2) What trends does the design department follow when making designs? current military uniforms, game designs, etc? is there a preference?

A) In GI Joe Design, we draw our influence from Modern Military, but also relevant pop-culture sources. We all love video games, and modern action films, and it shows in our work. We infuse these elements because we know they will propel GI Joe forward - not only for our loyal fans, but for a new audience of kids and teems as well.

3) Will Walmart be carrying the full 30th Anniversary lineup?

A) That is currently the plan.

Not any of MY Wal-marts. :|

"That is currently the plan."

couldn't this be an answer for pretty much everything? Sheesh!

Q: Will the next GI Joe movie be the best movie ever?
A: That is currently the plan.

Q: Will you please make (insert character here) so that we can have more beloved characters in the line?
A:That is currently the plan.

Q: Will Sgt. Slaughter be available at retail in some form in the future?
A: That is currently the plan.

haha sorry, couldn't resist.
Blade:
wow how vaguely obtuse and uninformative. I love how they just answer blanket questions and have had rules against answering real questions that would put them on the spot and to give real reasons behind some of their stupid decisions.
Stygian:
I have to agree with the person who decried the loss of newer waves of GI Joe at Wal-Mart. And I can see that the logical point of departure for the original WM related question is the lessening of new product on their shelves.

I get that retailers essentially tell suppliers what product they want to carry and this is never more true than with GI Joe, but if there is no product out there how does Hasbro hope to keep this line alive? In fact the last new(er) product I recall on retailers shelves is the wave that includes Commando SE. I remember one WM out of more than a handful had the LowLight wave, but that's about it. Shouldn't these be more plentiful, so that we don't all have to resort to 3rd party etailers? Not that I'm complaining as I love BBTS and the like, but the continued health of the line means it requires a presence on toy shelves. Doesn't seem like rocket science.
Xenos:
In what way were those answers obtuse or uninformative?
The first question was a yes or no, and they answered no. Can't be any more clear then that.

The second question was basically "what is your inspiration for GI Joe" and they gave some examples. There was no "right" answer for that one.

The third one was another yes or no, and they answered "yes, but things could change".

What was obtuse about any of those things?
felks22us:
hmmm one thing i would like to know will we get more female character other than the same 3 like we been getting.

I just hope that WM around me will pick up the joe line. many I have to go on BBTS. to get them so far.
80sKid:
Yawn... Nothing exciting or news worthy here...
arashikage tat:
I think this might be the first time EVER...that I liked all three questions that were asked!

All of them were were well thought out
Trooper13:
What are "teems"? Do they really by Joes? I heard if you buy Joes as a "teem", then you won't get any "ess". Is this true?

;)
tuan_tran73:
"That is currently the plan" is the answer will fit in any questions that you asked.
Jettfire:
Good questions, solid answers.

I'm with Xenos on this. The only way their answers could be more direct is if they said "No, John, we are moving away from environmental themes...".

My Wife: "Do you love me?"
Me: "That is currently the plan."

My Wife: "Are we doing something special for our anniversary?"
Me: "That is currently the plan."

Hey, I could get use to this.

My boss: "So Sean, are you going to finish that project this week?"
Me: "That is currently the plan."

Well for all those wondering if 30th would continue along side the movie toys the answer is no. But the answer gave hope it would return. They have been working on movie figures for months already.

I'm just glad we are getting the line back into WalMart.

I'm wondering if that Multipacks question on JC Wiki means there's no more 7-packs coming, I certainly hope not & I'm hoping we find out more about them in this round of q & a. Not trying to start a riot just wondering about that answer...
Steevy Maximus:
As far as Walmart goes:

Bear in mind that just because Joe isn't on pegs RIGHT THIS INSTANT does not mean they won't ever carry it again. At my location (a single store of its type for over an hour's drive, so no competition aside from ONE grocery store that doesn't carry toys or games), they don't carry Marvel Universe or DC Classics.

But they did at Christmas. What will likely happen is that if your local store(s) will get Joe back, it will be with the Christmas reset when the bring in more "seasonal" lines. Again, this store did not get Marvel until the fall of 2009 (3 months after release), and ditched them after Christmas. Picked them back up fall of 2010 (so between January and August-ish, no MU at this store), and ditched them after Christmas.

I'm expecting the same with GI Joe, though we might get lucky and they'll keep them around a little bit prior to the movie line's release.

Eh, I think the question and answer were pretty clear. Again, in Hasbro speak, they could still slip something out in early 2012, but I've long maintained that if Hasbro had ANYTHING on tap for exclusives or multipacks, we would have seen or heard SOMETHING about it by this point.

I'm not surprised at that, given the mediocre performance Joe's had since RoC. I'm further not surprised at the return of "classics" since they don't seem to have much of a game plan post-Cobra Strikes from what I've seen thus far.

Which probably means they will be on the pegs in October.

I'm glad we at least know now. I hope they can make a new one based on the old like they did the Sky Striker. Tomahawk FOR THE WIN! RIP TOMAHAWK.

=(
Fast_Draw:
What the hell? JoeCustoms 3rd question said no multi-packs for 2011. 7-packs scrapped?

That's what I am hoping for too. An update of the Tomahawk with a vintage look and feel to it with the original colors of course. But who would the pilot be. Lift Ticket again, we already have him.

I don't mind, he kicked ass. Or Updraft if they want to switch it up. Better than another...WILD BILL

Here ya go… ToyArk's answers:

1) During the last round of GI Joe Q&A, you confirmed that the WHALE mold was lost/destroyed. Is the Tomahawk mold gone for good too? It was arguably the most popular GI Joe helicopter ever made.
A) Sadly the original TOMAHAWK mold is lost/destroyed. It's a big shame considering its one of our childhood favorites too.

2) At JoeCon 2011 fans finally learned that the wings and landing gear of the Sky Striker were still interconnected like the original. A lot of fans were hoping that the wings would be able to sweep without retracting the landing gear. While this is not a deal breaker, why was the interconnected wing sweep/landing gear retraction function retained in lieu of keeping them separate?
A) The goal of the SKYSTRIKER 30th anniversary design was to re-create the SKYSTRIKER as closely as we could to the original. The cockpit design had to be revise to accomidate the larger sized figures. The wings needed to be detachable to meet new safety standards and to help with packaging. The rest of the plane was left to be as much of a replica as the original, landing gear linkage included.

3) While most fans do appreciate the increased cockpit detail in the Sky Striker XP-21F, they still crave a 2 seater. Has a 2 seat Sky Striker XP-21F, at the cost of substantially less cockpit detail/tooling, ever been taken into consideration, possibly for future releases or perhaps a running change?
A) The two seater was indeed considered, however, it would have been very very difficult to fit the second pilot in the cockpit. Luckily, the new cockpit is indeed modular and a new, two seater cockpit could be designer at a future date to accomidate two (albiet, very awkward) seated pilots. Currently, there are no plans to revise this design.

I'm going to put the links in the first post.

Also found out that JoeBattlelines didn't submit any questions for this round.

Ha ha I wish I could find that stuff

I may have been useful to some more Joe fans though... I talked to G.I. Joe designer John Warden at Con about changing the wrist guards on the PoC Viper as a running change and he loved the idea even though it was a pretty obvious suggestion

Well it looks like it's going to happen:

3. JoeIntel.com We are already aware of (and quite happy with!) the running changes on Blowtorch and Croc Master. We feel the important items were addressed, but want to be prepared if there are any other small changes. Are any other PoC figures getting any changes even if something minimal?

Hasbro: As the brand transitions into 30th anniversary, some of the more popular Cobra Troop Builders will be getting some minor revisions as they find their way onto the new "30th anniversary" style cardbacks. For example, the Cobra Viper will feature red wrist guards, and will be outfitted with a new array of weapons instead of the projectile launching cannon.
Magick:
I totally forgot about them.. just like they forgot to submit questions. LOL

I remembered there being about 12 sites with Q's with the last Q&A.. Oh... the Collectors Club should have answers..
SNAKE EYES:
Update: Added all the links to the first post.
Shock Viper:
Walmart is a bit too late at the party the best POCs were the first 3 waves. Now we only have repaints and kit bash.
Jmacq1:
I wonder if they'll take that "variants to troop builders" one step further and maybe change the PoC Cobra Trooper to a PoC Cobra Officer. Or maybe do a Gold-Helmet Steel Brigade.

At least I know I don't need to buy any more of the current Vipers. Those can be the "Officers" or something.
kennywr22:
Wow this sucks. just read the q and a over at fighting 18 and one question asked was will we see everything at retail that we saw at joecon. The answer was everything will be part of the 30th Ann. Except data viper didn't make the cut!!! A original cool character and it's canceled ....lame!
