Memorial Day - May 26, 2014

Memorial-Day-2014---Hisstank Today we remember all of the brave men and women that gave their lives while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. To those that still serve today, we know that we can never repay the sacrifices you have made to protect us, and for that we are eternally thankful.

Here are a few excerpts from a speech by former President Ronald Reagan (may he rest in peace) that show respect for this date better than I could.

-----

Today is the day we put aside to remember fallen heroes and to pray that no heroes will ever have to die for us again. It’s a day of thanks for the valor of others, a day to remember the splendor of America and those of her children who rest in this cemetery and others. It’s a day to be with the family and remember.

All of these men were different, but they shared this in common: They loved America very much. There was nothing they wouldn’t do for her. And they loved with the sureness of the young. It’s hard not to think of the young in a place like this, for it’s the young who do the fighting and dying when a peace fails and a war begins. Not far from here is the statue of the three servicemen—the three fighting boys of Vietnam. It, too, has majesty and more. Perhaps you’ve seen it—three rough boys walking together, looking ahead with a steady gaze. There’s something wounded about them, a kind of resigned toughness. But there’s an unexpected tenderness, too. At first you don’t really notice, but then you see it. The three are touching each other, as if they’re supporting each other, helping each other on.

And we owe them something, those boys. We owe them first a promise: That just as they did not forget their missing comrades, neither, ever, will we. And there are other promises. We must always remember that peace is a fragile thing that needs constant vigilance. We owe them a promise to look at the world with a steady gaze and, perhaps, a resigned toughness, knowing that we have adversaries in the world and challenges and the only way to meet them and maintain the peace is by staying strong.

Thank all of you, and God bless you, and have a day full of memories.

-----

You can sound off and share your respect and memories after the break.

G.I.Joe Retaliation Night Viper Giveaway By Jinx723

GI-Joe-Retaliation-Cobra-Night-Viper---Hisstank Hisstank.com forum member Jinx723 is giving away a G.I.Joe Retaliation Cobra Night Viper figure for Memorial Day! Here are the details -

It's pretty simple, the one Hisstanker to get the most correct answers gets a free Night Viper. Only catch is, this is mainly for those who have not yet been able to get a Night Viper. I have a list of those who qualify(from reading the entire Let's count those Night Vipers thread). If you already have more than one Night Viper you are automatically disqualified. But feel free to post your answers if you like.

1. In what issue does the Night Viper make their first appearance?

2. Which Night Viper was chosen by Cobra Commander for Operation: Flaming M.O.T.H.?

3. What parts were used in making the DTC Night Viper?

4. What advantage does the Jungle Viper have over the Night Viper?

5. Including the one I am giving away, how many total Retaliation Night Vipers do I have?

6. In the DiC G.I. Joe cartoon, how were the Night Vipers shown as opposed to what is on their file card?

7. What other toyline has a character named Night Viper?

8. Bonus Question: In 2008 Jinx723 army built which trooper and how many does he have?

--------

You can share your answers after the break! Good luck to all those that enter!

The Silence and the Darkness: A GI Joe-style tribute to my son's cancer survival

An amazingly touching video has been making the rounds on Facebook and landed on Larry Hama's fan page yesterday.

The Silence and the Darkness: A GI Joe-style tribute to my son's cancer survival, is a heartwarming video posted on youtube by Paul F. P. & Katrina Pogue. Here's a brief summary of the video, but I would definitely recommend reading the full write up for more information. The voice acting skills of Bill Ratner and Mary McDonald-Lewis, the original Flint and Lady Jaye, are put to use in the the vid.

Every May I create a movie-poster-style tribute to my son Armand's continued survival in the face of impossible odds. This time around I brought his sister Autumn-Rose into the fold and got ambitious with the above video .

First off, eternal gratitude to Bill Ratner and Mary McDonald-Lewis, the original Flint and Lady Jaye, who generously donated their time and talent to bring life to a concept that seemed impossible when I came up with it, and delivered narration that succeeded beyond my greatest hopes.

"The Silence and the Darkness" is both appropriate and ironic; it reflects our running inside joke that the kids have one good set of senses between the two of them, and also the fact that despite their challenges, you would almost never tell. He can still hear me whisper "hey, want some ice cream?" across a room (I still have no idea how) and yet sometimes misses stuff that's sitting right in front of him. (The phrase "are we sure it's his ears and not his eyes that are the problem?" is a frequent one in our household.) He may not hear very well and she may not see very well, but they are anything but silent and dark. That's the thing about these kids -- no matter the challenge in front of them, they always seem to find a way to work around it!

HISSTANK.com Discussion Topic G.I. Joe 6" Inch Black Series Part 2

baroness-6-inch-cobra-gijoe-black-series1 Welcome to the new showdown over 6-Inch G.I. Joe Black Series figures. We have already seen Round One go down with a small victory in favor of producing a 6" G.I. Joe line. Now more then ever, a new scale or size class is needed in the ARAH G.I. Joe Universe. Not only would the new size class bring back a huge chunk of the larger ARAH G.I. Joe fanbase, it would also bring in new collectors from the 6" realm of collecting.

Over the years I have seen a lot opinions on size class and people who discounted the G.I. Joe Modern Era Body style as a "fad" that would be short-lived. I have seen a lot of the "Old Guard" swear up and down they would never collect modern era. However we all know that the G.I. Joe 25th Anniversary Line ignited the brand, and launched G.I. Joe back into the spotlight. Since that time, we have had two live action G.I. Joe Movies with different levels of success, and a big decline in retail sales of the G.I. Joe Brand.

If something is not done soon to bring back the larger pool of fans, ARAH G.I. Joe will be limited to Collecting FSS figures and whatever the G.I. Joe Club decides to produce. This may be fine for the Hardcore Collectors who are willing to buy figures at 3x the cost of major retail, but will kill the line for the general collecting public. The popularity and character selection is just not there in 4 inch scale. I can personally see the G.I. Joe Club running into problems with the same topic after FSS 3.0.

The bottom line is will you support G.I. Joe 6" Black Series?

Sound off after the jump and let us know how you feel about G.I. Joe 6" Inch but most of all cast your vote!
