GI Joe Renegades Comes Closer To Reality With Plans For Toys Games And More

240482-The_Hub_logo
HISS Tank boards member BCYOJOE has found a trademark application for GI Joe Renegades at Trademarkia. Looks like The HUB is going all out, as the Renegades trademark covers toys, games, and more! The filing date was April 7th with the status update on April 12th:

On Wednesday, April 07, 2010, a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed for G.I. JOE RENEGADES. This trademark is owned by Hasbro, Inc., 1027 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket, RI 02862.

The attorney or correspondent listed for G.I. JOE RENEGADES is PAUL N. VANASSE of HASBRO, INC., 1027 NEWPORT AVE, PAWTUCKET, RI 02861-2500 . The G.I. JOE RENEGADES trademark is filed in the category of Toys and Sporting Goods Products , Education and Entertainment Services. The description provided to the USPTO for G.I. JOE RENEGADES is toy action figures; toy vehicles; board games; parlor games.

Could G.I. Joe Renegades be the media tie in that brings GI Joe back to the forefront and renew retailer excitement for the GI Joe brand?

UPDATE 4/26: BCYOJOE has just obtained more information from the USPTO, and thus confirmation, that this trademark not only covers toys, but is primarily for an animated series:

entertainment services, namely an on-going
animated television series.

BCYOJOE:
Remember I told you guys about a new G.I. Joe name that might just be the next cartoon series, via this thread: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-revealed.html ?

It seems like my theory is becoming a reality.

Hasbro has filed a Trademark Application for "G.I. Joe Renegades".

Told you I was right ;)
txbart:
That "Renegades" suffix makes one wonder if Hasbro is going to ride the "Losers", "Expendables", "A-Team" wave.
The Huntsman:
I didn’t expect anybody to read that tweet I made. I later deleted it because I’ve gotten in minor trouble in the past for revealing things before they were meant to be revealed, but it’s nice to see you all are looking into it further. I believe it has to be for the series mainly because of this line, taken from the United States Patent & Trademark Office website.

You all can check out the government database yourself; I find it more trustworthy than a second-hand site like trademarkia. Just click on “Search Marks”, “Free Form Search” and then type in your query, though it helps to use quotation marks to make the results more specific.

The logic part of my brain is telling me to STFU, but I'm still hoping for Taurus, Mercer, and Red Dog. >_>;
Moses:
Very possible announcement at Joecon.

If this is what they are going to put on TV, then I expect it to be their 'flagship' series. It is what kids will see, and be the commercial for toys. Maybe the Hub will also show classic GI Joe and may renew interest in ARAH. What I wonder about is how they will promote POC, or will it be overshadowed or somehow related to Renegades? I guess we will see. I hope whatever toys come from this are not CloneWars style sculpts.
Monkeywrench:
interesting

Plans for vintage content were mentioned here:

New GI Joe Animated Series Possibly Premieres On The Hub October 10th 2010 - GI Joe News

As for animation style, I HOPE that the figures do not have compromised articulation. I only buy Clone Wars figures that have full articulation, don't mind the style. Full articulation is vital to a GI Joe figure. It's been a standard for decades; the gimmicked figures with compromised articulation don't really sell well in GI Joe lines from what I've experienced.
Hicks_Royel:
No chance that this just has something to do with the Renegades that operate under Slaughter's command? I mean, Renegade is something of a "broad use" word. I know in the TF lines they often use the faction name in front of member names. Autobot Tracks, for example.

I don't know a whole lot about the copyright system, so I'm just asking but this just covers toys, right?

I think so but since it is a media tie in it wouldn't surprise me if most of the info will be withheld until SDCC in summer. Same thing happened with Transformers Animated a few years back.
Steel Brigade:
Good stuff, looking forward to more news on this...
Adamantite:
I'm really curious as to what the relationship between POC and Renegades will be. Hopefully thetoys will maintain the same modern construction.

Also, Sgt.Slaughter as a SDCC exclusive AND a show called Renegades? I want to believe it's not a coincidence.
green_shirt:
Why do I have the weirdest feeling we're gonna see something like G.I. Joe Extreme with some sorta tie in with the new Hama series.

G.I. Joe Burn Notice.

I think you're right.
CrimsonGuard101:
I dont think it will have a toy line for a while for this purported renegades cartoon. I mean they just switched from ROC to POC here in 2011...then ROC 2 is coming soon as well. To shift gears again I dunno its all to quick. I would hate to see PoC get only 2-4 waves and then get scrapped like the 25th/ME/Reso line did for Sgt Savage 2.0 or something much worse like a really awful Transfomers Animtedish Joe cartoony toys...till ROC 2.0 reboots the figures back to Paramount's vision. This is why it is making more and more sense for them to do 2 lines simultanously inside one line the way star wars puts all of its figures under one flag. Going to be a nightmare of switching back and forth it seems.

I guess we will find out in 3 days..
Nemesis*Prime:
Very exciting news, and a good title.
topnotch97:
eh? sounds like a reality show.
Jmacq1:
If they only applied for this trademark less than three weeks ago, I'm going to guess that this show will not be coming this year. We might see an announcement and maybe a couple character designs at Joe-Con/SDCC but generally the trademarks are applied for like...over a year before release.

As for releases, it'll probably look like this:

Late 2010-Early 2011 = Pursuit of Cobra (At least as of the last Q&A Hasbro was planning on PoC lasting at least until early 2011).

Late 2011 to Early 2012 = G.I. Joe Renegades. Effectively a short run just like Transformers Animated was prior to the next movie.

Late 2012 = Movie Sequel toys.

However, I would also note that it's not as if the G.I. Joe sequel has been given a firm release date or even officially been "green lit" (in other words they haven't allocated the money to make the movie and aren't building sets/costumes/etc... and getting ready for actual filming). It's only "in development" and could be stuck that way for a looooong time or even axed altogether if Hasbro and Paramount decide that's not the way they want to go.

In other words, 2012 is not a "hard" date for the RoC sequel. It could easily slip back another year or whatever.
captain N:
I'm loving the name. Joecon is like 2 or 3 days from now lets hope hasbro talks.
DavAnthony:
I' hoping that Hasbro doesn't go the dumbed down Sigma Six, Super Hero Squard approach with this but I have my concerns.
