Target's Single Pack G.I. Joe Figures Are Now $7.99

Okay! So I go down to a local Target and find two wave 9 figures. I go to the checkout only to see that I paid 7.99 for each!!! That's right 7.99 each. No mistake on the DCPI number or anything. I was so excited that, unfortunately for me, I didn't notice till I got home. What the hell is going on!!?? Anyone else seeing this? I saw a thread for a Walmart hike, but now this? If this keeps up I will have to stop buying!

They're going to kill off the casual buyer if they keep this up. It's bad enough that I had to severely cut back on my toy spending thanks to insane gas prices. The higher in price that these go, the less likely I am going to be collecting them all.

No kidding, when I saw the price, it made me so mad. It's bad enough most of us invest lots of time and gas, and then the price goes up? Again?

I went to a Burgerking within the last 2 weeks and ordered 3 valuemeals kingsized for me, my bro, and his friend, and they total came out to 8.99. which was awesome. It may just be a one time thing that the PC Charged and they might cash it. then again bush could fart oil so....who knows

Remember back in February Wal-Mart raised their price above the 5.99 retail price to 6.84 This sucks if it happens again. I saw a thread with someone saying their WM had a price hike too. If both Target and Wal-Mart raise prices again that is bullshit. Anyone ever notice that Target and Wal-Mart never raised their price on the comic packs seems kind of funny that single card figures have raised in price a few times now, but comic packs stay the same.

Hmm, well I hope this is the case. If not, I will definitely preorder in the future. I mean, I have been preordering, and then canceling my orders when I find them at retail, because of the extra shipping costs. But now, it's about to equal out.

the point is the country is in a major recession now because of the insane fuel costs, prices are going way up on everything, so we should not be surprised prices are going up on toys, even though it does suck for us the collectors

Walmart/Target lost me after the second price increase. Oil, capitalism, Supply vs Demand, whatever the reasoning....I went back to collecting vintage figures. The $$ just isnt worth it to me.

True, but why have the comic packs stayed the same price at Target & Wal- Mart yet single card Joes raise all the time. Lets hope this was an isolated incident and prices stay the same.

I here ya, that's exactly what I was doing, plus one for the kiddo. I'm gonna have to stick to one MOC that we can both gawk at! This is truly BS. A great point also with the comic packs! They haven't gone up in price, so this price hike may not be attributed to fuel. It may just be that Hasbro/retailers view these single carded figs as a gold mine and want to reap as much benefit as they can off of em.

Unfortunately, one of the main ingredients in plastic is... wait for it... yup! OIL!

crap!!! I just bought a wave 9 from Target and I just noticed that on my receipt right now.... and to top it off, they don't accept the coupons anymore. I guess I'm done unless I see one I really like. selective buying from now on. one way to keep joes on the pegs.

Wow, pre-ordering might be the way to go from now on. Less hassle and as cheap, if not cheaper.

Fact: a 7 pack cost $30
Fact: a 5 pack from TRU will cost $20 if the price holds
Fact: $8 for a single figure

Dont tell me its oil that makes the price go up that much when I see multipacks for much cheaper. What about the Ross 5 packs for $12? Some of those are somewhat new with the 2 peg stands.

My sentiments exactly! It's not oil. What's making these people money are the single figs, hence the price gouging.

i'd have an easier time accepting the oil argument if I had seen price increases on: Star Wars, Transformers, Indy, Ben 10, Bandai stuff, Mezco stuff, Mattel stuff, ... and not just the single packed Joes. I think this is a Supply/Demand that is getting out of hand. I'd really like to know definitively if it originates at Hasbro or the retailers. I'll still buy what I want, but other lines less appealing to me will get the ax.

A scalper bought two cases of wave 9 this morning from target. He beat me by litteraly 1 minute. I was pissed, but now that I see this, it makes me laugh. These price hikes are giving scaplers a hard time, which is good for the collector, trying to find these at retail. I know it sucks, but hopefully it will result in a decrease in demand, and we will see more at retail.

im sure oil plays a factor but you hit the proverbial nail in the coffin. they are using it as an excuse to gouge us, the loyal consumers, for money. I say to frack with these fracking frackers. :>

Well, you know with this price hike, along with them offering $5 dollar coupons and then when people actually start to use them, they yank them away and Target's new implemented policy with a kind little note on the pegs that says Target is no longer catering to collectors...

Thankfully, my Wal-Mart is 3 times closer, has better stock, lower prices, and no bs to deal with like Target...

yeah but wal-mart started this increase stuff initially. then when everyone else has these high prices they lower theirs so everyone flocks to them. its typical wal-mart tactic, hence why i have not shopped there since i spotted wave 7 and passed on em earlier this year.

If my Toys R Us can keep its prices down to $7, they might end up with a small, much-needed victory against the super-stores.

see I get that oil is higher and so on...but do they honestly think people are going to buy it if they raise the price with the way the economy is? It's a catch 22 I guess. Costs go up so they raise the price, but then less people can afford to buy it so they lose even more money.

on a side note about Target annoying us lately. Yesterday was my girlfriend's brother's birthday. He got the Wii Mario Kart and she wanted to get him an extra wheel (in addition to a couple other things). Well, TRU had it for $15, best buy for $13, and target and walmart had for basically $10 each...except target and walmart had none. I called a target near me today and they tried telling me they had them for $15...how? We went to 2 targets in the general area yesterday and the tags said $9.99. Well, I found a walmart that had them and got it for the $10...ridiculous.

BTW, all the systems I've checked say the vehicle exclusives are on clearance for $2.48! I've checked this at 4 - 5 targets here...but wait, they never had any on the shelves anyway.

That would be great, if only my TRU actually had anything worth buying in stock!

Luckily, mine at least keep their exclusives in stock, so I always have access to decent trading-fodder.

Packaging plays a role too. Cheaper to pack two figs together. Also, $10 for two figs only seems like a good deal if you want BOTH. The Shipwreck/Copperhead pack, as well as the Storm Shadow/Firefly, were both excellent, but I hesitated with both because I already had a Shipwreck and two Storm Shadows. Not to mention the Scarlet/Hawk and Duke/CC packs are warming pegs everywhere. Nobody would raise the price on a product until they unloaded the stock that isn't moving.

When the 25th Joes 1st came out last year I was really surprised they retailed for $5.99 & $4.86 at Walmart. I thought they would be more in the Star Wars range of $7 each. I also remember seeing the DTC figures at TRU for $6.99 before the 25th line came out. Maybe they had them priced cheaper to get the line off the floor. A year later charge $2 more a figure now that the line's very successful. I do think that sucks & now I'm in the same boat as only buying the figures I really love from an assortment. At the increased prices I'd be happy just getting the new vamp & the new Rattler & call it quits. BTW a friend of mine bought a new Hulk Marvel Legend figure at TRU for $14.99! That's a $5 increase on ML's! I guess I'm done with that line too unless I'm really crazy about a figure.

a friend of mine who works at TRU told me they will be doing a price hike also. i think it was either last May or June, when he told me all the retail stores will be doing the price increase and all.

so i guess this is expected already for me. not really affected, as the future waves are like becoming more like re-issues. like the cobra trooper bazooka or whatever... he's just like a re-issue of a regular trooper with an extra bazooka. so i don't it would be a good idea get him or go army build. just like those 7-packs also.

i'd rather get to the habit of waiting for the big vehicles if Hasbro decides to do so. like if they're gonna do a defiant, rolling thunder, flagg, etc. but not on the small vehicles. never got into those.

btw. currently the comic packs cost $11 at TRU.

I've noticed with the Star Wars figs that the breaking point on what most collectors will pay for a 4-inch fig is somewhere between $7-10. Four-inch figs priced at $10 have not been big enough sellers for Hasbro to continue to make them. It will be interesting to see at what price the Joe singles start to sit on the pegs.

Don't take this personally because it's not aimed at anybody specifically, but I say just grin and bear it. We all are paying more for almost everything these days. Essentials come first, obviously. If you can't afford the hobby then it might be time to cut back or quit for the time being. Don't empty your wallet out on toys if you can't afford it. I know this sounds overly negative, but it's reality. It's harsh, but in hard times, the folks who make money don't suffer as much or at all and the people who struggled already get really screwed. If you collect MOC and loose, then maybe only do 1 or the other. I hate prices going up just as much as anybody else in the world, but I'll learn to live and deal with it. I understand your frustration, but I have to say can any of us honestly be surprised this is happening? I know I am not. The quality of life and the value of the dollar has been on a steady decline for decades and this is one of those periods where it's just really hit an extremely low point. Got to end this post positively somehow.........yo Joooooooooooeeee!
