G.I. Joe Modern Era Wave 9 General Hawk Review 100_2483
File Name Abernathy, Clayton M.

General Hawk was the original field Commander of the G.I. Joe Team before he got his General's star and was booted upstairs to honcho the entire G.I. Joe operation. He's a West Point graduate and has a list of special education credits as long as his arm, but he still managed to get the main body of his experience out there where it counts - on the battlefield.

For those of you that do not know, this is the best 25th Modern Era G.I. Joe to date. As you can see by the new Images, updated articulation helps this Hawk hold weapons in attack position. For once I hope they actually make a new (V1) Duke with this body style.

I am not a fan of solid color back-packs but thats a very small complaint for the very best rendition of General Hawk.

Which images? I wanna see Hawk!

EDIT: That'd be a big ol' nevermind - they're posted now.

Recondo:
    yeah

You guys really need to check the front page.
xhairs:

When I posted, there was nothing on the front page. Thanks, though, I see them now.
Darkness2393:
Woah! He's really cool. I was not expecting that from Hawk, considering that the comic pack Hawk was... well, sub-par.

yeah same here, now theres bunches

he looks good im just not that crazy about his pants camo
DavAnthony:
So cool, the 86 Hawk was in my top 5 figures from back in the 80's I'm happy that this update really looks like one of the best modern figures so far.
Recondo76:
Did you guys see the pic of him bent over?
is there new articulation in the upper torso??
Gung.Heaux:
looks great. as far as the backpack...i like a bit of detailed coloring too, but its really nice otherwise.
looking very much forward to him.
nighthawk:
Looks really good. Just wish his shoulder/chest holster looked a bit better. I think it's too small.

Do you mean the same articulation as the rest of the 25th line?

the comic pack Hawk is awesome! not sure what else could have been done to replicate the v. 1 Hawk any better.

this being a perfect rendition of v. 2 doesn't have any bearing on whether the comic pack Hawk is what it is supposed to be.
Crimson Rage:
Very nice images. I wouldn't say he was the best 25th/modern era release yet, but still a 'bloody good figure'!

Hands that aren't gloved and a face that doesn't look constipated might have helped.

I wanted silver straps on mine. I heard there were some out there but I never saw any. Was that an actual variant or just a dirty rumor?

They did improve on the upper torso articulation. It basically bends further.
Crimson Rage:
Is this a prototype of some kind? The arms look a different colour and that doesn't usually happen on an official release.
Also, is the shoulder holster moulded to the collar? I think the figure would be better without the holster, but not at the cost of mangling his jacket!

No this is a production product. The only reason you can tell the arms are a little off is because I had the figure under really bright lights. Trust me you cant even notice it on the shelf.

Here is another articulation shot. He can do the Matrix bullet fly-by, but he kept falling before I could snap the pic.
hectorxd:
so the hole in the lower torso is basically longer from front to back?
245am:
    get excited!

    Yes, that would be correct.
hectorxd:
Thats a cool idea for some figures. Many of them wont matter either way because they have the web gear on.
Im guessing it will help them fit in vehicles better perhaps. Just being able to manipulate their bodies more should help.
Cataclizm1:
Why hello there, new default Hawk figure.
artiepants:
aside from the 'incorrect-to-comics-fans' hair color and Shoddy camo apps (seriously, the 86 version had better camo) he looks just about perfect ~ glad they 'fixed' his face, the proto had the 25th Duke cherubic-cheeks vibe.

love the 2 handed .45 action!!!

cannot wait for Wave 9 to hit BBTS!!!

im sure somewhere in joe/hawk mythos, hes had gloves on his hands. i wore gloves this past weekend while cutting my grass.
and im sure sometime in hawks life he has been constipated on the battlefield. just this past weekend while i was cutting grass....nevermind.

Ah, good to know, thank you.
Once this fellow is my hands, comic pack Hawk gets issued with a mortar and will henceforth be known as Short Fuse!

and another to the "if it isn't identical to the original it is crap" brigade.

Wrong-o, Bucky. I'm one of the few who far prefer the 25th Serpentor to the original. Same goes with Zartan. Hey look, completely new designs different from the original. But the gloves on Hawk make an already bland design even moreso by removing that bit of contrast, and the head sculpt really does look constipated.
Gothiczartan:
    WOW!

he's much better than the comic pack hawk V2!

his helmet fits very well just like the vintage figure!

maybe someday they got to make the 1991 version of hawk with jetpack based on this figure - http://www.yojoe.com/action/91/generalhawk.shtml
Eopie Herder:
Looks great! I can't wait for him to show up at my door!
Rodimus-Power:
Hawk V2. is a wonderful figure
and i Like the Improved torso flexibility
xhairs:
thats cool to see they did improve the movement thats for sure. man i cant wait to get him in my hands to fix my custom hawk with these parts and to have one moc.
bothen:
Looks like they just used dukes head and put more hair on it.Look closely and you'll see it.
Commando:
This could be one of the best figures so far, but I'll wait till he is in hand to make a final judgement. I think the camo pants look 100 times better then the original Hawk V2 86'
CobraCoffee:
Here's an idea... Pick a hair color and go with it.

Maybe comic pack hawk could be rereleased with a bottle of hair dye in his gear for his "california beach years"
barbecue:
That Hawk is the best figure of him so far. He looks like his 1986 figure but greatly updated. I have the other 25th Anniversary Hawk figures and I wouldn't mind adding that one because it is one of the Joe figures to get from this toyline along with Battle Armor CC, IG Destro, Torpedo, Snow Job, BAT, Snow Serpent and others.
badgumbo:
This looks great! An excellent rendition of the vintage General Hawk. I will be picking this up for sure.
Syn3sthesia:
I'm really liking this Hawk Version. Glad I waited for it.

i'm guessing more he went brown to hide the grey, he's no spring chicken ;) new 'Just for Men' spokesmodel General Hawk anyone?
Michael Jade:
Looks like a decent figure. I don't know about the best though. I really like the comic Hawk. he's actually one of my favorite figures. If you go back to the comics he had that mean look on his face on occasion.
I love the fact that he can two hand a pistol. that's been my only gripe on the 25ths. The lack of arm flexibilty ala swivel arm battle grip.
Irid70:
Any idea when this is hitting the shelf?
jasonong:
thanks for the pics DESTRO congrats also for having this awesome fig.

cant wait to get a hold of this figure. grrrrrrrrrrr.
Elite Force Cobra:
Hawk has great detail this will be a keeper for sure!!!
ceraurus:
That figure looks terrific. I'm going to be so conflicted over which Hawk will be the default on my display. To me, Hawk will always be the blond version, but this one looks so great it may take over.

I wonder if they'll use this helmet for Airborne? Or will they make something that doesn't flare out as much?

Can we expect reviews of the other figs (other than the BAT review)?
Saboteur:
Not a bad looking figure overall, but I'm going to pass on him. I never cared too much for Hawk..I always prefered Flint, Duke and Falcon over him..Though I do acknowledge him as the original joe field leader..
    Saboteur
VIPER 48:
Hawk is going to be a winner in this wave of awesome figs. I can't wait to get him...
Snow Job:
    One word: BADASS

It's about time they did something with the arm articulation so that they can hold their weapons in more than just one pose. I wish they would've thought of that before 25th even came out. Would've been nice.
MAJOR WOLF:
Hawk looks Awesome!!! Can't wait to get Him!!!
