| G.I. Joe Modern Era Wave 9 Fire Fighter Barbecue | | Posted on 06-20-2008 at 03:04 PM by DESTRO | Social Bookmarks | RSS Feeds | If Kelly hadn't joined the G. I. Joe Team he would have been the seventh Kelly in his direct line in the Boston Fire department. His love for the job is not based on family loyalty or even a more general sense of duty; he simply likes riding on the back of the truck with the wind in his face and sirens wailing, lights flashing and the bells clanging. Being allowed to knock down doors and smash windows with his Axe is just frosting on the cake.
"Barbecue is what you call your basic party animal. He can open bottles with his teeth, pick up quarters with his ears, and wrap his lips completely around the bottom of a quart Coke bottle. You may well ask how all this affects his function as the G. I. Joe Firefighter . . . . It doesn't. It simply makes him a more interesting fellow to have around."

The new improved chest plate and shoulder pads give the figure much more depth. After all real fire-fighters carry around a lot of bulky gear and the original was not as well rounded.
The head gear is not removable but the shoulder pads are. The Fire Axe and Back-Pack Extinguisher are Classic gear. The only issue I see with this figure is the left hand not being able to hold the Extinguisher Gun correctly forcing you to only be able to use the right.
The potential for customizers to re-use the body and gear is endless.

Way better looking than what I expected. firmpulse: destro, how's the figure's head? they didn't surprise us with a removable helmet did they (wishful thinkin) Bernit69: Too bad you can't remove the helmet. I would probably of boughten a few more than needed to make a fire team squad. The figure looks awesome. Thanks for sharing. jasonong: awesome. thanks for sharing the pic. katcountrydean: BBQ was my best friends favorite character when we were kids, hes not a collector so i think i am going to surprise him and send him this new version when it becomes available... nighthawk: Hey Destro, thanks for sharing. Is it possible to get a pic without the shoulder pads? Also, how's the size of his head? Is it big enough to be hollowed out? Crimson Rage: Well I'm impressed!
His chest unit looks to be a wee bit too high on his torso to me, but other than that it's another good'un from Hasbro. artiepants: Pretty fantastic, wish the shoulder pads sat a litle lower, but that's a minor gripe. swafus: I'll be throwing together an airtight custom from this bad boy! If it only had a removable helmet! It would be perfection! GILTYONE: Huh I Don't See Any Pics?? :( :( ceraurus: I love it!! Great use of the Snow Job/Wild Weasel body with a few modifications. An example of a terrific use of existing parts combined with new ones! MAJOR WOLF: Looks Great!!! I'll be getting him too! Syn3sthesia: This is by far my fave Wave! crazyfellow1: I don't know why, but I really like BBQ, looking forward to this one C.I.A.D.: Quote:

Ironically, I lost him in a house fire. jjk1120: Barbecue was never a favorite of mine growing up, and he still doesn't do all that much for me now. I guess when I was younger my Joes never had too many fires to be put out. But, just like all the rest of the 25th line, he looks awesome & I'll be picking him up. Hats off to Hasbro again! barbecue: Dammit! I need that Barbecue. My life isn't nothing without it. Barbecue, Barbecue......... crazyfellow1: Quote:

I'll wait to see one in the store... FFanglin: This is a great job by Hasbro! Being a career Firefighter I will have to get a least 4 of these to man a rig LOL. Also Destro you hit it on the head about the gear we wear, it's bulky and weighty and they captured it well in the figure. Zefram: Quote: |

Its probably the most well-done and most cleverly reused sculpt they have. Saboteur: I like it..been waiting for this one...was it the cartoons or the comic when someone said, "Why do we need a firefighter?"
and Barbecue said, "That's what they all say, until there's a fire!"
Saboteur murphbri: Nice to see a fig where the re-used parts don't jump out at me like an eyesore. The simple orange and grey deco works for me too. *thumbs up*
The non-removable helmet doesn't bother me. I don't think Hasbro could pull that off anyway considering the character had a giant orange afro, lol. sgtapon: not sure if i like it or not... Cataclizm1: Stupid left hand can't hold crap. Wish you could store the gun thingy somewhere too. But you can sort of wrap the cable around the backpack in between the body and let the gun hang. Looks nice in person. RedHeadKevin: Am I the only one who's going to use Breaker's bubble gum as BBQ's glowing, kid-disintegrating, energy orb? Snow Job: Sooo....has anyone been able to get his left hand to hold anything?
Other than that one glaring flaw, he's damn near perfect. Although, I think that tank on his chest is a bit large....and looks like a perfect bullseye for any Cobra Trooper or sniper. :p | All times are GMT -4. The time now is 11:45 AM. | |
