fireflyguy: Soooooo, Mutt with Duke's head. These guys must be doing some major squats; look at those thighs. I know a lot of comments were made like this when we first saw pics of Mutt, but I didn't realize the extent until I actually picked Mutt up yesterday.
I have to say that overall, I have been unimpressed with the DVD packs. I might consider whichever one has Alpine in it, but I haven't seen any new ones in my area, so I'll just wait and see. DESTRO: Quote:

The best thing about the DVD sets is the M.A.S.S. device. But there are some great figures in those to complete your collection. Dusty, Quick Kick, Red Face Plate B.A.T. Ect........ shlappyguy: Ol' Duke's got the gout. Either that, or he needs to be hitting up the stairmaster something fierce. Unclassified: so mutt an flint to make a new duke!! them colors are corny! Monkeywrench: I love the DVD sets but this one is going to have to be a pass. After seeing the pics, none of the 4 figures I want. ceraurus: Yeah, the Mutt legs are little on the large side! I do like the use of Mutt's helmet, it's a little bigger than the standard ones we've been getting. Batmandk02: Come on guys... you have to buy this DVD pack. If you don't they will shelf warm forever!! I don't think anyone would buy this crap even if it was on clearence. I might waste 5.00 if they went that low. Let's support this DVD pack. LMAO!!! COBRACOLLECTOR: Boooooooooooooooooo !
no more Duke
no more Duke
No more Duke ! COL Abernathy: Whoah, Duke's new code name is "Thunder Thighs." Monkeywrench: Quote:

Probably not. jasonong: guys at hasbro who made this fig.. what were they thinkin.? they didnt evaluate the figure before mass producin? wth.. HissCommander: thunder thighs...sheesh....PASS! DESTRO: There are just a pre-promotion for the Movie to get the word out to Kids about G.I. Joe. There are not for the "Collector Base". Quote: |
The G.I. Joe Greatest Battles are coming out in spring and were created for kids as they started to hear buzz surrounding the G.I. Joe movie. The Greatest Battles are all redeco'd figures and come with a DVD that introduces kids to the Joe vs Cobra fantasy.
| Tanksmasher: The guy at corporate who came up with this idea is probably the same guy who invented the hot pocket. Hot Pocket! XVoodooDollX: As stated before
what a hideous peice of shit! RockinHard: Jesus, what's worse: this or the Cutter we got in the SRO pack? Shogi: I can see some good custom fodder with this set. Duke's Torso and sleeves there are nice and generic and Storm Shadow thighs are always good for regular pants gunslingercbr: easily the worst effort by this Joe team to date.
they got the Storm Shadow figure right for the set, but the other three are just miserable. G.I.Eddie: Quote:

Hasbro- "We won't do Covergirl and Ripcord in cartoon/comic style until after the movie because it will confuse the consumer."
Hasbro then releases this Duke, Cobra Commander, Snake Eyes, and Storm Shadow in the spring with a DVD that has no connection to the movie either. Right before the movie and surely won't confuse the consumer. Bullcrap! miscreant: Finally!
Now i can add this figure to all the other Duke's that i've skipped. G.I.Eddie: Quote:

Hicks_Royel: I could buy that Mutt was wearing some extra padding to protect himself from a stray dogbite or something. But I certainly hope that Duke falls under that "Subject to change" at some point before release.
I also agree with Kaisugi and the countless others who argue that this pretty much contradicts everything Hasbro has said about confusing the casual consumer. Batmandk02: As a consumer.. I am so confused!! I don't know what is good, what is bad. Is there help for this?? Can someone call Brooke Shields because if she can tell me not to have a kid for German Engineering, I am sure she can help my Joe Problem!! gunslingercbr: Quote:
Originally Posted by G.I.Eddie total contradiction and an obvious pile of BS on their part... | exactly. I suppose you can remotely make an argument that Ripcord may confuse the customer, I don't agree, but Covergirl? she's still a white broad, just in a different uniform, not like any other character from this line in the movie, so there would be nothing confusing about that. Unclassified: it seems flints arms are the arms to use lately, , cutter , skyduster, now duke!! Dutchmaster29: This Duke is kinda weak. I'll pass on this set. I do have an idea for Hasbro for the Greatest Battles Pack - have 2 figures that are loyal collectors and they can vs. 2 Hasbro high ranking officials that neglect to make popular and requested figures like Zarana so that they can produce unwanted versions of SS, SE, CC and Duke. I mean what next, CC dipped in strawberry topping with chocolate sprinkles? Cavbeast: Oh this is too funny. For a minute I thought I could get behind this pack but now with the image of Duke ROTFL i didn't now it could be that horrid. fred v: strip away all the coolness of mutt and BLAM!!!you get this.... 1337W422102: So Duke gets Stalker's gun, and Stalker gets an MP-40... xFlintx: While I probably won't buy this set, I do like the way Duke looks. I'll admit it, I'm a Duke-a-holic... put a duke figure out and I want it. xFlintx: Quote:

Nice use of parts, & a solid look. I particularly like the gear.
Out of what we have so far, I probably like the single carded Jump/Flag Duke the best.
But the "Resolute Duke" will probably become my definitive version. Bermuda Mohawk: Quote:

Then why the very distinct homages to toys only the collectors base probably catches? These may be marketed to jump start the Movie campaign, but they did as much as they could to try and get the collectors to bite as well.
But this will easily be the worst of the DVD packs in terms of shelf warming. It would have to have an incredibly low price tag to move briskly. Imperial_Serpentor: Quote:

There's a difference, Ripcord is black in the movie while the classic one is not, Covergirl is blonde in the movie where she was only blonde in one of her classic incarnations. Where as Snake-eyse remains a ninja in black, Storm-shadow remains and ninja in white, Duke remains a blonde soldier and Cobra Commander will probably still be a guy in a mask even if it's a different mask. | That explains the "International" GARBAGE on it. Hollywood can't handle anything that portrays America in a good light so they have to make it "International". Just another reason I will not buy anything attached to this movie. CrimsonGuard101: Duke head on a Mutt body and repainted....This is such a simple mod anyone could have done it....are they f'in serious?? PASS
I know! Lets put Cobra COmmanders head on Destro's body or lets put Junkyard painted Whitew tih Snakeyes with Beach heads "head" on it and call him Nighteyes! Shogi: Quote:

But this will easily be the worst of the DVD packs in terms of shelf warming. It would have to have an incredibly low price tag to move briskly. | Actually, the "homage" these figures seem to be based on are only 5 years old. Most kids that I knew back then that collected GI Joes were from 13-18 yrs old around that time and would know who these figures are now. Perhaps kids that are 8-10 now may not know who they are, but I'm sure there are more teens that know these figures than you may think Shin Densetsu: Quote: |

| The selling point of this set are the core characters included, not so much the homages. If anything I think the homages are there because it is better than just having a random paint job. For example instead of glow in the dark Snake Eyes in this set, we have an homage to VVV. Or instead of crimson red transparent flame missle launcher violence inducing Cobra Commander we have a GVC homage. The figures that this set pays homage to are from series just a few years before Sigma 6, so it is possible that kids will recognize these characters, if not by name, by look. I doubt collectors were the majority of the buyers for Gijoe vs Cobra, Spytroops, and VVV from 2002-05. DTC yes, but those other three? No. Either way, if you weren't aware of the homages, if you know about G.I. Joe, more than likely you would recognize the characters in the box. Quote: |

| Who said kids won't buy it? There is a chance it will be more of a hit with them than the 1st two MASS device battle packs, which I see in abundance. I think those two sets will be the worst in terms of shelf warming in the long run. The Pyramid of Darkness set will probably sell the best, since it has mostly new figures. xFlintx: I agree with what Mr. Densetsu said. I also think this set makes a great gift for a kid as an entrance into the world of GI Joe. Let's face it, we are all sick of the endless repaints of these four, but Hasbro wants people to know these characters as they are pretty much(from a marketing standpoint) the four faces of GI Joe.
The Adult Collectors may not like it, but I don't think this set is intended to be marketed to us.
Still I'd love to aquire the Duke from this set if I can. CornDog_The_Ninja: I think the figure looks fine. Its not Duke, but not a bad looking figure.
Kids will like it.
After all, toys were originally made for kids. Who can still use their imagination. |
