This isn't a serious thread, but I just felt like ranting a little about something.
Maybe I'm getting too old. Maybe an old dog can't learn new tricks. I now, officially, suck at video games. I'm one of those people who sits quietly being pummeled by the computer or someone else who's hootin' and hollerin' cause he just scored four touchdowns in one quarter on me in Madden. I am now officially 0-9 against both Madden 09 and MLB 09 The Show. I wonder if there's an age you reach when video games just get too hard or too advanced. If there is, I think I'm there. I haven't even touched Madden since August because of the 48-17 pummeling I took at the hands of New England. Well, it upsets me because I really used to enjoy it. But now it just frustrates me. And I'm playing on the easiest settings! I don't know if I will even bother playing anymore. Which sucks because I love football, but can't play because I'm too old and fat. Oh, well. I wish I knew some answer. Quitting my job and playing 12 hours a day isn't really a solution. The silly part is my rant. The serious part is that I am pissed that I don't enjoy playing anymore. If I don't play, I will miss it. But I will not do something that frustrates me. You only have room in your life for one thing that frustrates you... your wife. I'm done.

I coped the Salvation Army comic strip to my hard drive.
It makes me smile.

Games are getting far too difficult. By that I mean they take a lot of practice to be any good and with a wife and three kids who has time for practice?
I'm pissed too...I love the Resident Evil Games but have been stuck on RE4 since it came out and have not even attempted RE5 because of it. I find myself enjoying the vintage consoles and arcades more these days, and the newer LEGO games (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Batman) but rarely have time for those either : - (

Get this- I have been playing guitar for 12 years, and I consider myself to be quite good, yet I can't play Guitar Hero well for some reason. (I haven't given it much effort, it seems silly)
My co-worker tells me I just need to practice. I HAVE SPENT MUCH OF MY LIFE PRACTICING TO GET GOOD AT THE ACTUAL GUITAR!! So, I found his statement to be quite ridiculous. I don't understand why kids will pay $200 dollars for a fake little plastic guitar and practice for hours and days and weeks and months- when learning to play the actual instrument is so much more fulfilling. |

Yeah suppsodley the older you get the slower you get, by like seconds and in these video games, that is usally what ends up getting you beat. I used to love FPS games, but the way people play Call of Duty and what not these days, your like instantly dead before you can even get started! I miss the old days of being able to run off with claymores or pipe bombs in Duke Nukem and actually get to play the game before you spawn and die to a Mil-24 airstrike...we used to play for DAYS on the multiplayer football field, it was a different age for video games then.

I still get mad when i don't lead all of the laps on Nascar thunder...It isn't enough to beat them. I have to annihilate them...
The very first game i ever got frustrated at was SMB for NES. I could never make the jump in world 8 to get to the final level. My sister and i would go upstairs to our neighbors apartment and he would come down and jump the gap for us...Seems kinda silly now, but we probably would have never beaten it if it were not for him...

One thing that I do like about game systems now is the ability to download old games and play someone online (if you can find anyone). I really dig games like COD modern warfare but sometimes it gets old. I'll only do Free For All on those games anyway. I don't spend enough time to get on a team and coordinate. Plus you don't have to talk to some pre pubic little douche saying that you suck. I like it when it's everyone for themselves and if it moves, shoot it.
I actually just got done playing Shinobi on the xbox360 the other night. It was like I was at the arcade all over again. Kids anymore are so engulfed in electronics that as an adult without infinite time to spend on stuff like that you just don't have a chance. Even if a kid is not playing the game there is a good chance they are texting or talking to someone about it on a cell phone or social network. Hell, the only way I found out tips was from Nintendo Power and that was once a month. Now you can google anything and have that information in the blink of an eye. Plus we slow down with age. |

Yes playing an instrument is fulfilling - no doubt...but comparing a game to learning/playing an instrument are 2 very different things IMO.
