I've haven't been paying attention to games for years (last time I regularly played anything was back when the first PS came out).
Anyway, I know I will be buying Batman Arkham Asylum, UFC 2009 Undisputed and Street Fighter 4 for sure.
What I need are suggestions on a first person shooter, and a good old fashioned button mashing game that I don't really have to think much to play and enjoy. Also, thinking about buying a good role playing game.
If you guys have any suggestions, let me know!

Also Little Big Planet
I haven't played Heavenly Sword yet, but the promos that I've seen make it look bad-assed! I've heard it is a short game though.

LITTLE BIG PLANET.
The single player levels are engaging in themselves, but the level editor is amazing (and soooo easy to use). I've published five levels myself and am working on six and seven now.
KILLZONE 2 - First person shooter with gobsmacking visuals and a brilliant online componant.
UNCHARTED: DRAKE'S FORTUNE - Superb adventure game and one of the most cinematic games I've played. The characters are very well realised, written & acted and you find yourself caring about them. The Sequal is due in a couple of months too.
BURNOUT PARADISE - Brilliant openworld racing with tonnes of free DLC.
All should be relatively cheap now too.

I think I have two games, a baseball game to simulate games for me during the offseason and Grand Theft Auto IV, which is really the only game I've ever needed. I'd get that one, or if you've never played any of them, start with three and work your way to present. They're all great, and if you start at the beginning, the story isn't as important, but you might be frustrated by the features that aren't in the older games. I think they're all pretty cheap by now.

1. Metal Gear Solid 4 - awesome awesome game. top notch graphics, awsome story line and you can do so much with the game. its not sneak and stealth like previous games. its now a greatest hits for 29.99 and well worth the price.
2. Fallout 3 - Awesome RPG , post apocolyptic and tons of fun, you can easily waste an entire day on the game and wandering around.
3. Kill Zone 2 - graphics are un-paralleled on any system. audio is amazing. just a really good game , visuals really will catch your attention.
4. Call of Duty - Modern warfare: id just wait on this one until the 2nd one comes out.
5. Uncharted: Drakes Fortune: Awesome game , good story line and really well dont story telling and character animation. the jungle's look beautiful on the PS3. its a fun action/adventure game. and just dropped down to 29.99
6. Oblivion - outstanding RPG and its only 19.99!!! thats the best part that game will keep you occupied for months.
