I wanted a GI Joe video game for a long time. I longed to see the classic Joe characters in video game form, fighting eachother of course. Now, I've searched high and low for such a game and I found that nothing contemporary exists. Then I got to thinking, is there a Street Fighter style game with editing abilities? Though I couldn't find that exact style of game, I did find some other games with powerful editors. One that stood out above the rest was Smackdown VS Raw 2009. I even saw some online videos of a handful of Joe team members using this game. It's editor is capable of creating most of what I wanted. Granted, SVR09 has it's own style and the GI Joe team I created using it reflects that style. Even so, this only means that some of the clothing looks a little tighter than it should, and the helms aren't exactly how I'd prefer.
The game allows for thirty user made characters, and working on their stats is a time consuming task. The result, however, is that when my friends come by they get to play and they seem as thrilled as I am about it. Due to their varied stats, some characters are a real threat and others are pushovers. It's great to be watching two of my buddies play and hearing one of them say, "Use submission against Cobra Commander, that's his weakness", or the occasional, "Stay away from Road Pig, he's slow but if he grabs you your finished." Why hasn't a game been released before now? I'll never know. I can vouch for how fun a classic GI Joe game could be, albeit in a wrestling format. I have 11 Joe team members and 19 Cobra. My youtube videos aren't the greatest quality, but it gives you a good idea of what I'm up to. I'm still releasing more videos, mainly the match intros for each of the thirty fighters. After that I might feature a few fights. If you're interested in seeing the game in action, here's the first of my four videos. Just remember, if you go out and buy the game for 360 or whatever, you're not going to be able to change it into a GI Joe game overnight. It takes a while, I promise. Thanks Uberlad, I appreciate your feedback. Tomorrow I'll be posting the first few character introductions. Cobra Commander will introduce the show, and then the first two fighter introductions will be featured. Then the world can here my impersonation of Cobra Commander (I'm trying to do his voice for the show introduction). Should be interesting.
Oh, and yeah, your right it took a long time. I guess you've probably tried that editor. Not the most user friendly approach, but I shouldn't complain. Post Edit: Here is the link to the Introduction Video. Two others follow it. Last edited by Firefly77; 08-17-2009 at 02:35 PM.. |

So now my SVR09 videos are done. Any youtube video under my profile is part of the series. I tried to put in a lot of Joes and Cobras, but I also know that I missed a lot of them. I'll probably end up doing more. My friends and I have done a lot of voiceover work for these, mainly in episodes 1, 12, and 18-31. Mainly it's the villians voices, but the heroes start getting the voiceover treatment in the last couple episodes. It was a lot of fun, and I hope some of you enjoy.
