See Hasbro even Lego is going the video game direction with figures!!! This is what Hasbro desperately needs for G.I. Joe.

Except, Hasbro properties, even with Transformers and My Little Pony, aren't in the same league as the properties being represented.
As said in prior conversations about this, the market is pretty well crowded/saturated at this point: Skylanders was the first and built a huge fanbase by being so and continuing to push new iterations and concepts each year. Disney Infinity has some of the most beloved IPs ever produced and looks to have started to gain significant ground on Skylanders. Lego Dimensions just came out and is integrating Lego's building element with interactive elements. So not only is it different than the others, but it also secured a healthy range of licenses there as well (including less traditional things like Wizard of Oz and Dr. Who). Jakks Pacific's Hero Portal has pretty taken its niche in the low end category, again, securing key licensing like TMNT, DW Dragons, DC Heroes, and Power Rangers. And ultimately, each is MORE than a single concept or branding (short Skylanders, which become one unto itself). Further, what evidence is there that an appearance in this format will push sales in traditional markets like action figures? Again, this has ALL been discussed before: Hasbro doesn't have the weight to put out their own competition for the above, nor could they integrate those degree of features into the existing product ranges without drastically increasing prices on already pricy products. Best they could do is a variation on the app integration already seen on Transformers RiD and My Little Pony

Hasbro Hires T.J. Fixman As Creative Consultant For Hasbro Studios - HissTank.com
Quote:
Mr. Fixman’s job is to build stories (or we call them ‘World Building’) for Hasbro’s Portfolio Brands (title usually refers to Transformers, Nerf, G. I. Joe, Monopoly and My Little Pony) across all platforms, including film, television and digital.

I have to agree with Steevy here. If Hasbro had been proactive/innovative and jumped on this a few years ago, before or simultaneously with Infinity, it would've probably been a success (especially with Transformers leading the charge), but not now. Indicators are this is now a declining segment. Infinity, Skylanders, Amibo, Dimensions...talk about oversaturation. Each one of these systems is a money pit, with a seemingly never-ending array of characters that need to be purchased, and parents are reaching a breaking point from both a cost and a clutter standpoint. The newest Skylanders is doing a big ol' flop right now (Christmas will tell the tale on that for certain).
Besides, if Hasbro had done/were to do something like this, the focus would've been/would be on T-Formers, MLP, and possibly Star Wars and Marvel, more than G.I. Joe. |

Hmm perhaps Hasbro is developing something like Dimensions after all. The guy's a writer, not a product development consultant

They hired him as a creative consultant and he has a video game background.
Infinity, Amibo, & Skylanders are essentially statues. Lego is using regular sets. Hasbro could do something similar like Hasbro worlds etc but maybe include it with their regular toys. I think parents would buy that instead of the statue like things of the other guys.

Writing for a video game does NOT mean the same as having a background in video games. He was hired as a story consultant, ie the fiction, NOT a product developer.
Those other figure are statues because a bulk of the cost of figurine is for the game development and the embedded chip. People aren't going to pay $25+ for a super articulated action figure or Legend/Scout Transformer just so it could tie into yet another video game thing. Of which, most consumers likely have MULTIPLES of at this point, or would likely be reluctant to buy into given the strength of the other lines' IPs
