That 5 POA one bugs me because they didn't made the vest a separate piece. It wouldn't have affected production costs or whatever as they had to mark part of her collar a separate piece anyway, and it would've made the toy so much better.
Also, you can't head swap with the vintage collection one. Quote:

I’m finding the photo real heads very hit and miss. The four reissues are awful. I got a Hoth Leia for my Hoth shelf I’ll make and the head is better than the first one but still not good. The Jedi Luke just looks scary. Some others look good andmany of the builds are nice but it varies widely.

Haven't seen the Lando in person, but the promo images do look really good.

Almost every head sculpt of Leia that they have ever done has been absolutely terrible, in my opinion. Several of the older versions look VERY manly, and a couple even resemble apes. So, while this photo real Hoth Leia head isn't perfect, it's one of the better ones of her IMO. The only other one that I thought was decent was the VC Bespin figure.
Also, I missed out on a lot of these VC releases during the original run, and some of them are crazy priced on eBay, so I'm happy about (some) of the re-releases. (I agree that the new ROTJ Luke head is bad). |

The reissue Luke is pretty bad. Han is worse. It looks like they used a scan of old Harrison for that echo base figure.
Lando and Boushh do look good and I think the Stormie Han looks great. It’s been hit or miss. I’m only taking advantage of the reissues to fill some gaps in my collection. Jedi Temple Archives: Research Droids Reviews Gallery Where Photo realistic faceprint is weakest is specifically the eyes and defining definitive and clear lines. The damned computer just wants to paint more shadow dots and details onto the sculpt, which results in the worms on Leia Boush's face and the blurry face. Also, the flatter or worse the sculpt is, THE MORE DETAILS THE COMPUTER WANTS to add. The Photorealistic faces can look great or look normal to the naked eye, but when you take a picture of a photo realistic printed face, your phone or camera is trying to digitalize a digital paint job. Because your camera is trying to pix elate pixels, the photo is ugly. The more digital pixel details printed onto the face, the more likely this will happen. |

I still need to see some of these "photo-realistic" face apps in person. All I've ever seen are pictures of them, and they do not make a good impression. Of course, until any stores around here actually start CARRYING anything for me to look at in-person, I can't really make a fair judgment. Sorry if this was mentioned before, but does the Stormtrooper Han use the photo technology? If he's a Target exclusive, then he's probably more likely to show up locally than anything beyond Wave 1.

The Photorealisitc painting has major drawbacks. I've criticized this before. But take a look at this.

Wish I hadn't clicked on the link. It just reminded me how much 3.75 Star Wars goodness there already is out there, and how much I don't have, but really want. LOL You got some good ones. Free them from their plastic prisons!

I was thinking, and I'm sure this was probably discussed to death years ago. It's kind of bullcrap for Joe collectors to have to spend $30+ per figure for modern figures from the club, while Star Wars collectors get these awesome Vintage Collection Figures for only $13 each. I understand that lower production numbers lead to higher product cost, but it really seems like the club took advantage of the situation and of Joe collectors. It makes me glad that I don't collect the modern Joes.

I had an epiphany years ago after finding out what an estate auction was. My family, and community are all Irish working class immigrants and leave nothing behind to warrant such an event. It was quite an eye opener. I found the experience Macabre. It creeped me out to think of an estate sale of my toys with me in the grave. Sort of like Scrooge’s vision with the Ghost of Christmas Future when his chamber maid is hawking his silverware and trash talking him. I decided that my toys should go to children to enjoy. My wife and I are trying for a child and I’d like to have my family, Santa, The Easter Bunny, Cupid, etc give the toys to my future children through out the years. One collection through out each year, exactly like my childhood but with so much more. Marvel Legends far surpassed the old Secret Wars line, lol. (The 1/6th scale stuff is mine for keeps lol) So I’m keeping them in the package as they’ll make for proper gifts that way. What few are open can be set up in action poses from Santa under the tree. Joe collectors also bear at least some of the responsibility for club prices in part because they weren't willing to buy Joes at retail unless they were marked down.
Yes, it was a viscous circle with us getting endless repaints at retail, but even before it got to that point, every wave had folks wondering aloud when it would show up at Ross or Big Lots. And everything is cyclical. The Vintage SW series line died off once, and - considering the number of peg warmers out there right now - may die off again. But even so, the world market for Star Wars dwarfs Joe by orders of magnitude. |
