Glad to learn the figures have ball jointed heads. I don't care much for the extras the figures come with though. They seem gimmicky and unnecessary to me.

Yeah, the Armor series is just terrible. I mean...if the armor actually looked cool and was a little bit uh...more...it might've been a pretty cool gimmick, but the "slap a torso on your torso" bit is just...laughable. They don't even look good or interesting.
I get that the gimmicks are for kids but I suspect of all the segments, this is the one we're gonna see massive clearances on after Christmas. Parents aren't stupid, and they just don't look like a good value. |

Another cold hard fact is that manufacturing costs in China remain significantly higher than they were 5 years ago. In 2013, Hasbro cited a production cost increase average of 20% per year, and I haven't seen any reason to think that has changed.
As with any hard line good, prices INCREASE faster than they DECREASE. But I do feel other factors are at play here. One thing I teach all of my analysts and buyers is this: Trust, but validate. I do not believe a single word without facts to validate. I teach this day 1, hour 1. Here is a 2015 article citing UBS as the source data, which is well trusted in my industry: http://www.ch-ina.com/wp-content/upl...After-Year.pdf "Despite near double digit salary increases in the past years, as the New Year begins in Asia, China's producer prices are lower than in 2008 and only 16.4% higher than in 1996." Here's another one, from the Economist: Still making it: an analysis of manufacturing labour costs in China "The EIU expects annual earnings growth of 12% in 2013-20. However, even against established emerging markets. China is likely to remain price-competitive in manufacturing labour costs for a number of years to come." If that is not damning enough, how about this? Supply chain management is largely based on landed cost of goods, and the TCO of the entire supply chain, from production, distribution, freight, marketing, time to market, etc. A large component of a supply chain's costs are directly affected by costs incurred by logistics, such as container shipping across the Pacific, which is largely based on futures (pricing paid by trans-atlantic carrier to hedge for gas inflation) for fuel / commodities dependent within the supply chain. Want to drive down these costs, reduce time to market, and enhance your carbon footprint? Hasbro could simple move factories back to the US. Seem outlandish? Hardly. Manufacturing costs in the US are only 5% over China's costs... Add to that the savings to produce good domestically, the decrease in time to market, and the increase in net revenue attributed to the reduction in costs / margin for logistics, and there is really no excuse that action figure prices should ever be at the point where they are today. Let's back that up with facts, here's an article from Fortune: U.S. Manufacturing costs are almost as low as ChinaĆ¢€™s - Fortune So my point... Oil is down. Dramatically. Actually more today than when I posted my last post, if you guys are following the DJIA and oil pricing per barrel. Plastic is a derivative of oil. Tooling costs are down. 3-D printing has dramatically reduced the time / skill of sculpting. Labor costs in China are up, I am not disputing that, but with rising profitability of finished goods, production costs are down. That is a fact. Interest rates were continually cut this week, as the Chinese government injected a financial stimulus into the market to help drive an increase of export. these are facts. I do not believe a PR spokesman for Hasbro that cannot go toe to toe with a strong financial case to validate these claims. If indeed the rising costs of production are attributed to increased licensing costs paid to the Mouse because of the merger of Lucasfilm and Disney, than that should just be put out there. While the details of those deals are protected under non-disclosure and confidentiality provisions in the Master Services / Product Licensing Agreement between Disney - Hasbro, they could at least stop telling lies to customers and pretend that we are all too stupid to understand basic global economics. Joemama out. (drops the mic).

A display at the Times Square TRU. I figure this thread might appreciate it. I guess they are gearing up for the new TFA display. Sadly ironic that these figures are 5 PoA as well.

"Labor costs in China are up, I am not disputing that, but with rising profitability of finished goods, production costs are down. That is a fact." That statement is so vague. It just isn't applicable to all sectors. The profitability of finished goods are not rising in ALL industries. To say that is disingenuous. |

SmokeBellow, It's hype....Pure and simple supply vs demand, and Yes if Hasbro would have manufactured here domestically producing Jobs here on US Soil The from factory to retail time would be cut drastically! Not to mention import fees, Lost or Delayed because of factory errors, The toy market is all about costs, And as I have stated Star Wars is an ICONIC Brand, Probably one of the Largest in the industry, Walmart alone will have over 500 star wars themed new products on the 4th, Many are automatically above to make a PROFIT, it's the business model as it has always been, but corporate greed all are over the brand now which has a lot to do with the rise in prices, Hasbro said they did this whole 5 POA to cut costs, but are charging much to the same as always, This is the retail Machine and corp at work, to hype up demand, shortpacks, shotty distribution All have plagued the lines in the past, will this be any different?......Not at first, but it's going to happen, for the way this monster works is GREED, little kids are the target audience, but you and I both know that we will see inflated prices because some jerk bought up all to sell online, Again nature of supply vs demand. Hasbro and Disney are all about collectables now, anyone who says otherwise needs to look at both their businesses past products, Do they sell on the secondary market, if so.....Why? Why would someone pay 400.00 for a 200.00 toy on the secondary market.....Simple, Supply vs demand. I see the companies holding back and doing this to generate hype, big holiday season, all beginning with the 4th, Mark my words, this year will be brutal!

I think there's some "conspiracy theory" type stuff going on. I expect something closer to either 2008 or 2005: ample supply at all venues, a handful of figures might be popular than anticipated but nothing truly "hard to get".
The business angle...well, we can back and forth until our fingers bleed, but it won't changed the FACT that Hasbro is pushing a major STar Wars initiative this Friday based largely around Micro Machines and 5 POA action figures, and the costs are what they are. In regards to the actual TOY line.... JTA reader has found wave 2 of the Desert/Arctic assortment, though wasn't able to photograph the entire assortment (did he get something out he wasn't supposed to?) Jedi Temple Archives News: More NEW The Force Awakens Action Figures Revealed! Big thing are two new figures revealed (plus a look at that assortment's BAW)- X-wing Pilot Atsy Sarco Plank He also revealed the rest of the Assortment, which includes: Stormtrooper Snowtrooper Kanan Ezra No details if the Stormtrooper, Kanan or Ezra featured any new elements or were simply repacks. Interesting to see the Stormtrooper in there again, assuming it IS a First Order and not a Rebels/OT version. Should mitigate the troop building shortages. I'm quite interested to see Kanan and Ezra, as it wouldn't surprise me if new tooling elements were in play, especially Ezra who now needs a lightsaber and scar. But i'm glad to see Rebels is still getting some attention, and am curious what will be in the other assortment. Hopefully, Sabine and Hera will get out there by Christmas to give fans an easy why to build the crew without the absurd secondary market gouging.

Well Target basic figures are 9.99 and deluxe are 14.99 but yesterday's paper had 2 awesome coupons that will help offset those costs. Like it or not the 4th is almost upon us!
