There's a lot of different things at play here, some unique to Star Wars and some not, but basically:
Toys, and particularly action figures, used to be what are called "loss leaders" at Wal-Mart/big box retailers. Items that the retailer is willing to take a hit on profits in order to get a parent buying SOMETHING in the hopes that they will then add something with a higher profit margin...it's basically psychologically proven that once you're buying one thing you're far more likely to buy others. So the price of action figures was kept artificially low for several years. Once Wal-Mart abandoned the "loss leader" mentality for action figures the prices started shooting up, and by then it was basically a whiplash effect of both "Catching up" to a more realistic price, and retailers pushing the prices for a higher profit margin. Eventually it reached a point where Hasbro and the retailers realized that it was costing nearly as much to create a super-articulated 3.75" figure as it was a super-articulated 6" figure, with the difference being that a 6" figure you could sell for $20, while a 3.75" (at the time) was closer to $10-12 with a much smaller profit margin, so with the addition of Hasbro's efficient packaging design, 6" figures suddenly became the "go to" as far as super-articulated figures went. 3.75" SA figures basically became exclusives-only. So now that they're coming back, retailers are going to still want to make their margins on the SA 3.75" figures...so that means prices closer to what the 6" figures cost. Star Wars in particular also has a hefty licensing fee, which may well have gone up when Disney bought them. This isn't defending any of this, by the by, just kind of explaining how we got there. |

I'm glad vintage is coming back but I've tempered my expectations. I think this will be a side line to the Movie of the year 5POA one. Limited to 2 maybe 3 waves a year with at least 50% repacks. I also expect the MSRP to be no less than 14.99.
Based on the lead time, Hasbro has already locked in whatever figures are coming out in 2018. If the quality is as good as the last Vintage line, I'll be supporting it. Welcome back to my wallet Hasbro. I'm fully expecting this line to echo the 3.75 Marvel Legends line: 2-3 waves per year, maybe a half dozen or so figures per assortment. And probably more than a few repacks. I'm expecting the price to be closer to 12.99, myself. That said, Hasbro's gotten some nifty stuff out in that assortment despite being a secondary concern, so I'm curious how they'll be handling TVC next year.

I am hoping for at least 3 waves per year with at least two new figs per wave. Might be wishful thinking. I can pretty much guarantee that in addition to Rey we will be seeing Kylo, Phsama, FO Stormtrooper, some kind of Poe, some kind of Finn, Jyn Erso, Cassian, Scarif Trooper....the list goes on. Not to mention rehashes of older vintage collection figs.
I do hope for the rest of the Rogue One main C's to show up. I also expect to see the tag read 14.99.... |

Rey being the first one they show is a good sign as tat first TFA TBS wave are some of the best engineered figures ever made.

Do they have any more of the FO Stormtroopers or Phasmas?

I think that there should be 15 figures per year, with 10 of them being new figures. 5 of them should be repacks/repaints. (Such as the Wal-Mart Black Series figures with main characters can be repacked for a larger audience...and on a Vintage Card, of course).

No more Stormtroopers. Phasma is still there. I think it was only one case.

Yeah, Vintage will basically carry the same spot as 3.75 Black, expect available everywhere. That's been a big frustration I'm seeing is that a LOT of fans are under the false impression that we'll suddenly see things revert to how they were circa 2010 with a half dozen waves per year plus vehicles and so forth.

That said, Hasbro's gotten some nifty stuff out in that assortment despite being a secondary concern, so I'm curious how they'll be handling TVC next year. I think that there will be some new sculpts but previously released TBS figs and TVC1.0 figs will be heavily salted in. |

Given some of the aftermarket prices people are paying for certain figures, rejecting a retail price point pushing $20 seems hypocritical, but it's still a hard pill to swallow when the price is comparable to 6", which I still suspect will have superior sculpts and paints.
But all we know about the TVC right now is that it will include Rey, and I suspect more from the Wal-Mart Black Series. Asking me to buy repacks of figures at $15 and up that I can buy at $6 on clearance right now is unacceptable. I understand that the TVC cardbacks appeal to a large portion of the collecting community, but for me the appeal was the quality of the figures. I'm just not in the market to pay for packaging (See Marvel Legends 3.75 Amazon Exclusive Sinister Six box set). There are a wealth of 3.75 figures I'd pay a premium for, but I fear that might not be what we get initially. |

As much as I would love to another shot to get more Scarif troopers i don't see them coming. I don't know why some people think there will be more Rogue One figures? What could drive that - the move is done and released on blu-ray and the characters are dead so i doubt we'll be seeing them for a long time. And I'm sayingthat as a huge R1 fan.
