So reading about toys (imagine that!) and I'm comming across Mego stuff, which of course goes into the fact that they had both Marvel and DC licensed under the same company.
Now thats slighty before me, though I do own stuff and know their story..but for many of us, we remember the Toy Biz figures. I may be wrong, but didnt Toy Biz have all those Marvel figures and accesories..PLUS a DC line that even included the Keaton/Batman movie figures? I even have Jokers right hand man "Bob"...who I was sure was a Toy Biz guy. So if I'm not wrong...Mego wasnt alone, they were just the 1st. What happened to Toy Biz anyway?? |

Yes Toy Biz for like a year had DC and Marvel(late 80's). They didn't have both long. As to where Toybiz went Hasbro bought them out in 2006 or 7.

Did some digging and found that the toys for the first movie were Toy Biz, Kenner took over for Batman Returns, and Batman: The Animated Series. Kenner was still around and had the rights to Star Wars in 1995 when they rebooted that lne.

I think Toy Biz lost the DC license due to making crappy figures. Remember the Lex Luthor figure that looked like Daddy Warbucks and the Two-Face with the gigantic coin? Man, that stuff was junk.

Toy Biz did make the Batman movie figures, and then they started making all the DC characters. In a lot of cases, I'm pretty sure they were using Kenner Super Powers molds. I don't think they had both the DC and Marvel license at the same time though. I'm pretty sure they lost the DC license and then jumped on the Marvel one. The owner of Toy Biz later bought out Marvel comics, and made Toy Biz a subsidiary of Marvel. That went on for years, and Toy Biz was mostly just making Marvel toys. Then Marvel decided they didn't want to bother making their own toys anymore, so they sold the rights to Hasbro.
Toy Biz then tried to keep Legends going by making oddball comic characters, but that didn't last very long, and (as far as I know) Marvel shut them down. |

So then the next question would be...if Kenner was still around in 95 for what I guess was Power Of The Force...then I guess Hasbro bought them out along with Toy Biz

It was a stand alone company then Marvel bought toy biz in the early 90's. They went defunct when they restructured after bankruptcy in the late 90's.
One thing about Mego, did you know they originally passed on the original Star Wars toy license? After that snafu, they bought up rights to every sci-fi property they could get their hands on (Black Hole, Buck Rogers,Star Trek, etc.) but still only made it a few years after Kenner dominated the action figure aisle.
