My birthday is fast approaching and I had my eye on the Takara Masterpiece Rodimus Prime. I love how it transforms to both Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime.
I saw the Hasbro version (once again they blew it like the Masterpiece Optimus Prime's cut off smoke stacks) and it does not come with Rodimus' trailer, but it is also $100 less. I am not a fan of the Targetmaster that comes with the US version. To those who have the Takara version is the trailer worth the extra $100?

There's an after market trailer out there, but I'm not sure what colors it matches up to.
I'm going to hunt down the Hasbro version when I can. I'm not really ever going to transform it, so I'd rather have the deeper maroon as opposed to the magneta in robot form. Plus, I get to keep an extra $100. Last edited by Jettfire; 09-07-2011 at 01:24 PM.. |

I bought the TRU version. Would've been nice to have the trailer but ONLY if I had a second one to keep in car mode. In the end, I just can't justify spending that much more for something that's an add-on and really serves me no purpose. Money better spent on taking the wife out to a nice dinner and then picking up some new POC afterwards

Saw one at TRU today and not only was I not impressed, I was disappointed with it. It was $60, and I would rather buy the leader series Sentinel Prime than Rodimus.

Then it's a good thing you didn't waste the money going after the trailer with the Takara version. Trust me, it doesn't justify the other hundred bucks.
Personally, the Hasbro version is my favorite. Better color, the Targetmaster's awesome and blue headlights. Thing is, the QC can be a hassle. |

I've got both and the Hasbro version is the bulk of the toy at less than half the cost. Takara version's QC issues are well documented at this point. Reportedly, a second run due for release Sept 24th is meant to fix all these issues...and, for Japanese residents at least, Takara have been exchanging faulty Rodimuses for less faulty ones. That said....the Hasbro version shows some fixes over the (first) Takara version..and there's still a couple of issues with it. Folding the fists away in alt mode is a PITA. The forked tab that holds the chest in place still does not tab in properly...this is perhaps the strangest one of all because a small dab of glue on the ends makes all the difference. The panels on the sides of the lower legs had a tendency to either break from anything less than carful handling, or for the pivot pin to pop out...and it's not that easy to get back in. The revised version has a pivot with flared plastic tabs, and now comes off very easily. The hinges on the exhauts on the arms are still flimsy looking to me. So in short, whilst the Hasbro version does show some improvements over the (orignal) Takara version.......it's still a flimsy, fiddly, toy. |

i personally thought the masterpiece rodimus lacked a lot compared to other masterpiece figures, if you really want a nice rodimus, i recommend getting the classics rodimus with the fansproject protector armor, much superior and worth the money over the masterpiece.

I like the MP Rodimus, but he's not one for everyday transforming. His biggest flaw is parts bloat. I think the designers tried to put as many hinges, flaps, and swivels on this figure as they possibly could. The end result is just as you said, Flimsy and Fiddly. If the designers had figured out a way to eliminate 10-20% of those parts Rodimus would be a much stronger figure.

If I had to choose only one, then I would go with Classics Hot Rod + FP's Protector, but $60 for MP Rodimus is hardly bank breaking. |
