Our parents always did themes and would have everything set up around the tree when we came down in the morning. One year we got load of Star Wars figures/vehicles/playsets. One year it was He-Man, another Transformers. Of course there were several GI Joe years also. We always got Legos too, so once we were done playing with all the new figs we could settle down and build! Ahhh, those were the days. I really need to get my mom's old 8mm film reels and convert them to DVD so I can re-live those Christmas mornings with my kids.

I remember Christmas being the best time for toys. I got some of my favorite Star Wars and GI Joe toys on Christmas morning. Ewok Village, W.H.A.L.E. hovercraft, Imperial Shuttle, Jabba the Hutt, B-wing fighter.
Christmas was always about the toys for me, and in later years it was a chance to get some new video games. I got my NES, Sega Genesis, and Playstation for Christmas.

My family wouldn't do many toys throughout the year except for maybe your birthday...but Christmas was like the motherload.
Usually mine were G.I. Joe heavy Christmases but I remember fondly when Transformers were hot - I got Omega Supreme and the Tranformers HO Train Set the same year.
I was trying to remember some of the less than stellar toys I had recieved but there just weren't that many, or they were bought as "gag" gifts. I guess my wood burning set was a fail of a gift but that was just because I was a little too into the action figure scene.
I think my mom and dad busted their butts all year to make Christmas just that much more special for us.

Well the big mainstays were the same as many of yours. Joe,Star Wars,He Man,Transformers,Thundercats,Playmates Star Trek, and TMNT,WWE,and many versions of DC/Marvel figures were all frequent guests under the tree for several years. But some of my favourite 1 or 2 year "guest stars" were MASK,Go Bots,Bionic Six,Ghostbusters,Police Academy,COPS n Crooks, the Galoob A Team series ,and Starcom were some of my greatest non Joe memories of the 80s.
Joe and Star Wars were always the heaviest hitters though. Well He man was too. But as the decade progressed, and SW and MOTU ended, they were replaced by Thundercats and Transformers more and more. Then in the late 80s and through the mid 90s TMNT ,Star Trek and all of the various Marvel/DC stuff from Toybiz and later Kenner became the new mainstays.
But Joe was ALWAYS THE main event through all those years.I have to mention that one of the "one time only" series that really suprised me was that Commando line by Diamond Toys. The ones based on that Arnold Schwarzenegger movie from 84 or so. I lved that movie as a kid and had no idea they were making toys for it. Plus the fact that they were Joe sized ,man I was shocked/thrilled.Ahh...80s Christmases....a truly magical time.

Mostly MOTU, Joe, TF, ...but I was big on electric racetracks like Tyco and AFX...always getting extra straightaways and stuff...man I loved those cars. I had a Tyco set called California Classics..a Deuce Coupe and a red 57 Chevy...damnit I wish I still had those cars!!
Anyone remember Manglors???...I loooooooved anything monster related! They were kinda like stretch armstrong but you could snap them and put em back together. They never went back right, picked up every piece of lint and kinda sucked, but I loved em. The head guy was called Manglord.
Entertech guns...like a BIG DOG...Entertech+red food coloring= a red and dead snowman on my front lawn Christmas morning.
One year I asked for Nunchukus...I got a practice pair. Plastic coated in foam with a rope not a chain. Still in all...I opened that and was basically like.."oh my God...I am officially Bruce Lee" Good times man!

Also when I was much younger, for some reason..I would get the good stuff, Joes, He-Man..Secret Wars guys etc...but I always got a few plastic dinosaurs and stuff....as crazy as it sounds, I loved getting those things!...I can remember getting Low Light and a big T-Rex...under the tree later on Christmas day..it was Lowlight with a few rounds left and a menacing T-Rex...
Seriously if anyone has a Lowlight and T-Rex, I totally have a case of Sam Adams Winterlager and a nice tree...it would be a fun time man.
