While I was browsing at Tru last black Friday, I saw a guy with his 4 year old son and the dad asked "would you like that Millenium Falcon?" and the kid said yeah and the dad happily picked it up.
The Millenium Falcon is really meant as a display model, I dont think its really meant for kids under 8. I almost felt bad for that Falcon going home to certain doom at the hands of a 4 year old. I dont know exactly how much it sold for on black friday but I'm sure it was still way out of my budget. And this falcon is more likely going to look like its been ambushed by a squadron of tie fighters in about 2 days after the kids get done playing with it. And left neglected and broken after the kid gets tired of it. *sigh* Last edited by Scarredlet; 12-03-2009 at 08:09 PM.. |

I know what you mean. It's almost a waste, but who knows...he might be using his kid as an excuse to buy the thing. ;-)

This is "dad code". When we see something we like, we ask Jr. if he wants it. He says yes, and Bingo! We get a new toy. When the wife asks why we got it... "Jr. HAD to have it, i just gave in to him, dear"...
Technically, it's not lying... |

You don't know that, mate. When I was 4, the phantom menace line had just come out. I made sure to take care of my toys very carefully, even though I was young. I really enjoyed playing with the Queen Amidala's Starship, for one thing. Just because I was young didn't mean I was abusive to my toys or anything, and same probably goes for this child.
In my mind, I think its good that kids have things like that to play with, too. A lot of the Joe collectors talk about having cool stuff when they were kids and enjoying playing with them, like the FLAG and the Defiant. Seems a bit hypocritical to talk about how kids today would just ruin toys that are, in most cases, more sturdily build. Being only 13 now, I speak from current and recent experience. IMO, let the kid have his toy. He'll probably have fun with it, and if not, its really not our business to decide whether he should or shouldn't have it, is it? |

Here is the really bad thing - my 2 1/2 year old son has discovered Dad's GIJoe room. I let him have the ROCC a couple months ago - it is now in about 999 parts, scattered all over the house. My mistake.
Good thing is, this gives me something to do with all those crazy repaints that Hasbro insists on packaging with something that I really want. I get the good figure - the kid gets the ugly repaint. |

Regardless of who it was for, that person had the means to purchase it, and so he did.

That's one of the perks of being a dad. My daughters have tons of Justice League and Galactic Heroes figures and vehicles I bought for "them." Now I have a newborn son and you can bet I went right out to Target and picked up the Fisher Price Bat Cave, Batmobile, and tons of figures for him for Christmas. The wife thinks it's hilarious, but I know he's going to love them...
In a couple of years.

Those FP sets look cool, too bad our son is too big for them now!
Although he is big enough for a lot of other cool things that I get to play...I mean he will get to play with this year!
