I'm working on getting the best versions of the core characters from the original trilogy and maybe the BMF, if I can ever find it for a decent price.

I've been a SW collector for 5 years, I had over 300 figures and 30 vehicles.
I didn't like the articulation in the last lines of figs, wich made me quit.
I sold most of it, and now only collect Joe's but very selective.
Instead I would suggest you start collecting the Unleashed series wich has all the main characters that are a bit bigger and have very nice level of detail.
They cost a bit more, but than you have quality to showcase. ;- )

I sold off most of 1990s Star Wars figures in a garage sale a couple of years ago, only to start back up collecting again, very selectively, when the coins came back (in. . .what was that? 2007?).
Mainly I stick to the original trilogy mains and Cantina and Jabba's Palace aliens. I just can't get too excited about the prequel stuff.
A guy with an ice cream maker, though. . .that excites me.

You would think that standardizing the articulation would save time and money during the design/mold creation process. Not that I'm privy to the details (both financial and physical) as to how that's done, but generally when things are all done the same way, it's easier/faster/cheaper to produce.
I got into SW for a while and got burned out quick. It's just too much, too many of the same characters getting released and re-released over and over again so you keep having to buy the "definitive" version. The inconsistent articulation was a big factor for me too.
In the end, I just decided to do one thing really well, and that was GI Joe. I do enjoy getting vintage SW figures, though. At least with that, there's an end in sight (so far I'm just aiming for a set of the figures from the original movie), plus there's something a little extra special about getting something that's 30+ years old and the same thing you played with as a kid, rather than just going to Walmart.
I do get the odd Sideshow 12" SW figure as well. Some of them are just too nice to pass up (e.g. Darth Vader, check him out!).
Please check out http://hmcsgreatadventure.com/ - it's a mix of sci-fi, humour and the friggin' Royal Canadian Navy, eh!
Also looking to sell/trade Joes... Need Lego Futuron Monorail, Land Adventure, etc... http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...-t-thread.html

I've wasted a ton of money on Star wars over the last 5 to 10 years. At this point I only buy the things I care about. For me it's the orig. trilogy, astromech's and clone commanders. I try to pass on the rest. Hasbro floods the market with too many peg warmers......

It was a hard choice for me to stop collecting star wars.. I do it very selectively now however..
Figures I really like - or that where iconic for me from the movies.. certain troopers.. and some of the galatic heroes.. who doesnt love those little fucking ewoks..
Other then that.. I cut back a lot on my collecting.. (until I get a bigger house) - now its exclusive joes only and MOTUC
