I was born in 1978, so I probably started getting Star Wars toys when I was about three or four. Sure, I didn't just carelessly fling them around the room, but things occasionally got dinged up from wear and tear because, like Barefoot Jedi said . . . it's just a toy. (I continued to have most of my originals in good condition up to about the early-90s or so.)

Hey, I got the FALCON from ROTJ when I was four or five years old. Yes, I trashed it, but God did I have adventures soaring the Galaxy with Chewie, Han, Obi-wan, Luke, R2 and threepio! When it was little more than a shell, I used it as my "crashed" ark for my Transformers. It saw a lot of play.
Waxing clowns and smoking fools since 1979.

Its a toy none the less, and kids break toys. They then learn from thier mistakes and 20-30 years later they find themsevles on some toy collector board remembering the stuff they had and clamoring about buying remeade junk they throw out later on.
Kinda ironic is it not?
I don't see this vehicle as a display piece. It is big to hold the kids figures and give him plenty of room to re-create the scenes he sees in the shows when he actual *gasp* plays with it..
I had the OG one in 83-84 promplty played with it in the bathtub, and you can imagine what that water did to the battery compartment and internal cardboard walls...LOL both the X-wing and Falcon ended up in my Dagoba swamp (bathtub) sunk so luke had to raise both as Han whined about the wookie smelling damp...

Y'know if we don't let kids have their fun with the toys that we all like to collect now to try and reclaim our past childhoods...then what does that say for the future of collecting or the brand, etc!? The kids of today need to be able to look back and be able to reclaim their childhood too!
I quit collecting any kind of toys years ago and yes, I used "dad Code" too when they came out with cool toys like the X-men in the 90's. When my kids were little I bought them all the coolest toys because...well they didn't really have X-men toys when I was younger! lol Now they have fond memories about all that and playing with their dad and so do I!
When the 25th anniversary line came out...I was a little behind collecting but was really excited...a chance to relive some of "MY" childhood and have things that I never got to have "before" and I even started picking up vintage vehicles and stuff...my kids are all grown now and they think I'm crazy! With that being said I have two wonderful nephews that are all boys...both under the age of seven and they have really gotten into Transformers and now, Thanks to me G.I. Joe! Their Dad and even my sister(the boys' mom) has fond memories with those toys that we all grew up with and it is so frickn' cool to see kids play and play hard with the same toys we have all had and loved!
You can't tell me a lot of us on here didn't let our vehicles free wheel down hill over some Joes and or Cobras or have free falling crashes off of big rocks and what about those summers with big huge exciting battles after the fourth of July!? lol You know who you are! lol
I picked up a DvD battle pack #5 for a song...I know what it's going for; how hard it is to find and my nephews are getting it for Christmas and you know why....because it's cool and they will have something not many or none of their friends will have! If they get a little worn or mangled along the way...that's alright too because they will have those same memories to look back on that we all have! And if they happen to take good care of them...then maybe they will be worth something some day!
You know what...I may have some stuff I'm collecting and one day I might even sell it...I don't know! The stuff I have open will more than likely be something I let my grandkids play with when they come to visit...I let my nephews play with some of the stuff now...creating new memories to treasure!
So the four year old with the M. falcon...more than likely it will survive mostly intact over the next couple of years and if not as they get older and if they are still into action figures! Well...that's an adventure with a downed ship that needs to be salvaged or parts might be scavenged to make new toys or bases...am I the only one who remembers this stuff?
Let the kids have their fun and besides...the less that survives is stuff that just goes up in value for those that have whatever it is that people want. The price for my childhood seems to be retail and just a tad above. Some people spend a lot more! I have found a Terrordrome for $200 in tact and very close to mint that I'm getting ready to buy...the most I have ever spent on anything used...WHY...I never had one!

dude, is this really a thread about not letting kids play with toys? at christmas time?
my god, what have we become.
what kind of a world is it for a kid when the coolest toy out there is only made available to rich indulgent adults, where it will just sit on a shelf and never get any play.
let the kid have the falcon, where it will be called the aluminum falcon on the millennium flacco, but that is what a toy is for.
can't believe we are having this conversation.
where would this thread be if we weren't allowed to have the GI Joe Headquarters as kids, the Moray Hydrofoil, the Defiant, the USS Flagg, the Mobile Command Center, the Mamba, all with ridiculous piece counts..
Here's my mantra, pick up this chant, and quote it.
Give the kid his toy.

and furthermore susan, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to find out that this kid has been playing with the falcon everyday, in the dirt, and cementing a lifetime of SW memories that will keep him on fanboards in his 30's, and cost mega bucks to rebuild a vintage 2009 falcon in his 40's...
I smile everytime I see some kid buy a joe (so long as it's not a white coat Rex, or a fig I'm hunting for), 'cause you just gotta know it's an all-around win, and you gotta feel good for the kid that gets that joy from a toy we really can't get anymore, and all the fun and excitement a vehicle can bring to a kid's world.
Rock on, small tyke, and give the kid his toy.

also, it'll give me an excuse to play with 'em.
also .. isn't that the point of toys. .. to bring children happiness.
when I see a kid walking around with a broken toy I get mixed feelings. part of me thinks "nooooo!" another part of me thinks "well at least he had fun with it. .. and apparently still is since he's still playing with it."
