Playmates will continue to produce Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys after the Turtles were bought up by Nickelodeon.
"Playmates Toys will continue as global master toy licensee for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles under the property’s new controller, Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products, the toymaker said today. The long-term partnership allows Playmates Toys to continue its 20-year history with the Turtles brand. The alliance also lets Playmates “execute on its strategy to maximize global toy rights in partnership with renowned brands that leverage entertainment across multiple-media platforms worldwide,” the company said. "We are very excited about our new partnership with Nickelodeon, which broadens the scope of creative inspiration for Playmates," said Lou Novak, President, Playmates Toys. “We are proud to continue our long-standing commitment of making innovative, fun toys based on the beloved Turtles that have entertained generations of kids around the world.” Nickelodeon purchased the merchandising rights to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles earlier this month from licensor 4Kids Entertainment."

I have the opened set of 8 displayed with my Party Wagon I got from TRU.. Hope the continue to re-release more of the original figures and vehicles/playsets.

They werent released yet.. They have only done 2 waves, the first wave was 2 sets of all 4 turtles and the second wave was all 4 turtles plus Rocksteady, bebop, splinter and april. From the little bit I have read, this line will be a TRU exclusive from here on out and they are planning more releases so hopefuly Slash, Shredder and the others will be released there.

Last word from Playmates was wave 3 is due any time now. They did end up releasing the Party Wagon, so it could happen. So hard to tell with them.
Back to the news... The Good: Is NEW OT based toys too much to ask? Then again, that's been too much to ask in the past. Time will tell. The Bad: Playmates. They really aren't that good. Not anymore. I'd rather have Mattel (and I f'ing hate Mattel!) The Ugly: Any more use of the CGI based Turtle molds! Seriously, someone destroy those molds! Please!

Yeah, but that was in the 90's. Playmates was pretty good in the 90's. Not sure what happened, but they suck now.
