First and foremost, if you want to bring anything back, how about something that still sells? As in bringing back lower prices for Leggos.
For non-existance stuff, I always liked M.A.S.K., C.O.P.S., and think the G.I.Joe D.E.F. had promise if marketed better. In M.A.S.K., I thought the idea of vehicles that transformed into more than just one type travel or use was cool. There is Transformers which only turns into Robots, and you have James Bond/spy types that are vehicles with gadgets, but nothing move complex. Even the M.A.S.K. playsets were cool how Boulder Mountain Gas Station could be a base to. Kinda like Zartan in G. I. Joe. But the deception is used for good. C.O.P.S. I think is a great idea, just not presented the right way. Sure, Cops and Robbers and Organized Crime is nothing new and is a theme used as a gimmick to sell a product of a bad idea. This had potential. Even if Big Boss could be Marvel's Kingpin's little brother and Buttons Mc Boom Boom's chest gun was something used from G. I. Joe's Overkill (hell, you can pick it apart where seperate ideas came from). ....taking more of a hindsight of it, I like the detail and accessories of the toys and how the best of the best work together in something that can be a inter- co-operative department law enforcement task force (as in G. I. Joe is for the military). You hear about inner law enforcement agencies bickering over who has more authority to make an arrest over what charge. The idea they are working together for a common enemy (whether they like each other or not), seems realistic and display acts of compromising. G. I. Joe's D.E.F. had potential to be what C.O.P.S. wasn't. It was set in the future but modern day. It's was a short storyline with Headhunters as the villains. I don't think this worked for G. I. Joe for a few reasons. First, America's armed forces are used all over the world, along with the C.I.A. and maybe the D.E.A.. Anything other than that has no jurisdiction outside in U.S.. Most law enforcement agencies don't work over side the side they are in; then it becomes a federal matter for the F.B.I., N.S.A., and Federal Marshals. Switching from a larger scope of inter-national to a smaller scale could have worked if there was more "fiction", among the team on what "policy" each has to push among others of that team. Even add a vigilante element to it. |

I wish M.A.S.K. had gone on a bit longer. In recent history, and this will make sense to the robotarded among us, Transformers: Animated.

The everlasting freshness of MASK & Starcom toys had the potential to spoil if they had gone on further in the initial run. The engineering of MASK toys was becoming lazy and Ill conceived in the last series, chalk that up to a change in engineers/designers or a decrease in budget. Vortech's poor conception when a great precident existed, showed that Kenner's heart wasn't in it any more, IMHO.

Keep the briliant engineering, just update the car models (except Hurricane). I am sure GM wouldn't balk at a 2010 Camaro/Thunderhawk or 2010 Silverado/Firecracker. |

While definitely more recent, I'd have to go with the 3 3/4" Dark Knight figures. I know Mattel focused on the 5-6" line but I really like the few two-packs they released (which were an unannounced exclusive to Target). The only vehicle they released was the Batmobile (in black and camo colors), those two little plastic and cardboard playsets, and that bigger transformable playset.
I wish they would have released the characters from the first movie in that scale along with a couple of other vehicles (like maybe that semi the Joker used in Dark Knight). |
