The virus is bound to affect anything that's made in China (or includes components made there). Chinese factories would normally reopen from holidays in next few weeks, but it's all tentative now. The workforce for Chinese factories requires a huge migration from other parts of China, which is not what you want during an outbreak. Workers not returning to factories will be disruptive, as is the risk that the virus is spread by some of those that do. Here's a short read on this.

Most of Hasbro's production is in Vietnam now, so it likely won't affect us directly, but still a crazy situation

I think Hasbro still has factories in China, so I don't think the company will go through this without any scratch. We should expect many delays, especuially for the KS figures, but the most important part is the human factor. I hope that scientist gonna find something to detect the infection in the earlier phases. |

Many of us who order from Chinese vendors have been informed that there will be delays in processing and shipping so I took it upon myself to just take a break from getting anything this month. It’s already had a big impact if you read the other boards.

Yes, i think 99% of the recent Kickstarters had a factory in China, so many of them will struggle to produce the figures. I really feel sorry for series like Eagle Force, because they went through soo many bad stuff and now this..

I thought we all already died from ebola and swine flu.
Jokes aside, I don't know whether to take this one seriously or not though. I haven't heard of any deaths outside of China so far (despite what some people may think, communist regimes don't provide great healthcare) and human-to-human infections in the US are (as far as I know) limited to someone who co-habitated with the patient in Washington state. Panic sells, so it's hard to take media coverage at face value, especially after the SARS, ebola, and swine flu panics they put us through over the years. Right now, even with the deaths in china, the seasonal flu is more deadly. But we're all supposed to panic and stay transfixed on the media reports. I remain skeptical, but I am able to be persuaded if and when real problems arise domestically. China has long had a problem with people dying from penumonia. Check out this publication looking at penumonia deaths in China from 1985-2008 (well before this Wuhan Flu outbreak): Pneumonia Incidence and Mortality in Mainland China: Systematic Review of Chinese and English Literature, 1985–2008 Quote:
Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of death in adults and children in China [4]. In urban areas, pneumonia is the fourth leading cause of death, and in rural areas pneumonia is the leading cause of death [5], [6]. A recent article in the Chinese literature estimated that each year in China there are 2.5 million patients with pneumonia and that 125,000 (5%) of these patients die of pneumonia-related illness [5].
EDIT BEFORE POSTING: I just checked and there has now been one death outside of China...in the Philippines. Also, as of Saturday's count China had 11,791 confirmed cases and about 259 deaths, making the mortality rate in a place like China approximately 2.197% if their reports can be believed. Total confirmed cases in the US stands at 8 now, after a University of Massachusetts-Boston student tested positive. Still no deaths in the US, Australia, Europe, or anywhere else besides Asia.
