So my son is finally old enough to start playing with action figures and I can't seem to find any new good toy lines. Maybe I'm jaded by growing up in the 80's where we had some fantastic lines. There doesn't seem to be any lines that have great figures, vehicles and playsets (bases) anymore. Is there any hope that there will be something good coming out soon that may be worthwhile? I'm starting him on the click and play and the Corps sets but they still aren't up to what lines like GI Joe were.

Bud, welcome to the echo chamber (and the tank)... Most of the modern lines that are worthwhile are aimed at collectors and sell at a premium. The there are always discussions and speculation about what the upcoming Snake Eyes film will bring. Nothing concrete, of course, but some of us are cautiously optimistic. Quick edit: Playsets are never going to be like the decadence of the 80's, too much of a gamble.

Thats pretty sad tbh. You would think that some company would see the landscape and realize that there is a major hole in the industry. They could completely corner the market. Maybe its a good opportunity for some entrepreneurs out there.

Try checking out the Valor vs Venom and similar Joe lines. They’re meant for kids and are fairly inexpensive on ebay.

The 1/18 Fort night figures and their buildable bases are great. I like the Lanard movie monsters. King Kong and all of the Rampage monsters. The Jurassic mounts they had were cool too.
If you are in the center of the country, you should check out the Lanard Factory Outlet sale. They seem to blow out their already dirt cheap toys for even less money. I'd not like it was for us in the 80s, but there are still some gems out there. |
