Dolls made a pretty big comeback at retail recently. I think it can not be understated how absurd the amount of dolls in general circulation currently is and how abnormal it is. They smell blood, something is going on, this isn't normal.
------------------------------- The absurdly long list: Recently we got: Incredibles 2 dolls Disney store's dominance on premium dolls and their $15 dolls Sprit Riding Free dolls Hotel Transylvania 3 dolls, Mego revival dolls Marvel Rising Dolls. Harry Potter line Dolls This is in addition to Mass retail dolls already in circulation: Disney branded Hasbro dolls, Frozen Moana etc Mattel's barbie Disney's Descendants, DC SuperHero Girls MonsterHigh, My little Pony dolls Batat company dolls Walmart Knockoff Dolls (I guess???) Knockoffs and other small players. -------------------------------------- In my opinion, I think we are going to see an actual glut of dolls as a response to Barbie's slipping sales, which are real and being ceded to higher priced, higher articulated dolls. This might be one of the most serious attacks on Barbie's market share in years. Or we might be seeing truly desperate companies responding to weakness in the boys category of toys by going all in on dolls and girl's toys. It might be a 3rd option like dolls getting cheaper, but don't count on it. /////////////////// ////// /// // / (For the weak boy's toy category claim) As for the evidence on why companies see boy's toys category as currently weak, trust me when I say DC, Star Wars, Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers are currently in brand turmoil. The Star Wars Brand alone would require a WALL OF TEXT to explain so just trust me, the last 3 Hasbro Financial Quarter Reports and toy interest surveys imply nothing good coming for it this season. A good example of one such negative factor and it's effects is the debacle of switching from Bandai to Hasbro Power rangers toys. Good question, where is the fall Hasbro Power Ranger stuff? Yeah, the profits on power rangers won't be good until next year potentially, so stores have to make up for the loss in waste shelf space some how. |

Well, Star Wars Forces of Destiny doll series was a big flop for Hasbro.

Marvel Rising looks to be even more fail than FoD. Poor Hasbro, forced to produce stillborn line after stillborn line. I’d be happy to be proven wrong though. The young lass at home has no interest in capes of any flavor. OG She-ra is ok though.

You've got it right. Boys don't play with toys as long as they used to. Toy companies have found that they can reach out to the girls' market to take up some of that slack.
