Hey, I thought I would write up an interesting piece for fun.

I was thinking about how silly Star Wars 5 POA is and what a silly idea it is in the modern market, when it hit me. It's NOT a modern toy line, the conception and ideas must be based on a retro toy line in the past dug up by some Hasbro higher up who hasn't adapted to the modern times.

After all, If Hasbro followed FUNKO into the retro 5 POA market and Funko's Super 7 Retro figure line is following the example of the unreleased Alien line, then what Toyline is Hasbro using as it's Retro example?

--------------------

The answer is. . . . . . . Hasbro's Power of The Force. I AM NOT joking,
The older Kenner Stye Lines were executed when Hasbro was not in charge so they don't care about those. That Mean's Hasbro MUST be using Power of The Force as their oldest Retro Toy line.

----------------------------------------------
Evidence:

POWER OF THE FORCE
Power of the Force figure 3.75 at retail almost 20 years ago: $5 MSRP Power of the Force Deluxe figure: varied, usually $11
Power of the Force Multipack of Two: $11
Power of the Force Multipack of Three: probably $14-15

Star Wars Modern 5 POA
5 poa basic figure 3.75: $8 MSRP
5 poa deluxe figure 3.75 price: $15 MSRP
5 poa 3.75 two figure multipack: $15 MSRP

If you put 20 Years of inflation into POWER OF THE FORCE's MSRP $5, the price would be . . . . . . . . $7.5, really close to the MSRP of the modern basic 5 poa figure MSRP.

POWER OF THE FORCE was also first to sell DELUXE 3.75 basic figures at a PREMIUM PRICE. This concept was imported to the Modern 5 POA line.

They sold Multipacks of two Basic figures at the price of TWO or BASIC FIGURES Minus one dollar per individual figure.
-----------------

Now unfortunately, what Hasbro copied, is not necessarily good.

> POWER OF THE FORCE was introduced as the first time Star Wars toys had returned, EVER. Demand was really high because it was the first Major return of Star Wars. $5 MSRP at the time was actually a predicted inflated price Hasbro placed on POWER OF THE FORCE when they realized how high demand was. It's actually a very, VERY inflated price for sky high demand. Not a good price to base inflation on for modern toy pricing in a weak mainstream market.

To give perspective, a massive Ultra Class Beast War toy was $20 at the time. A basic Beast Wars figure was $5.

Beast Wars (toyline | Teletraan I: The Transformers Wiki | Fandom powered by Wikia)

> The practice of Pricing the Deluxe Edition of Basic figures at more than double the price of a basic figure was carried over to the modern 3.75 Modern 5 POA toyline. Unfortunately, the original Power of the Force deluxe figures were based off actual objects and settings in the movies, modern 5 POA deluxe figures use strange original weapons that have nothing to do with the Movies.

Simply put, you shouldn't charge double the price of a basic figure if you don't have some movie tie in or Accessory to justify the price, the original could because they were things like "Probe Droid" and " E- WEBB Cannon" not the modern equivalents which are "FINN and Giant cannon" or "Cassians Giant Boxing Glove Grappling hook" in his 2 pack.

> Power of The Force figures are posed in action poses. At the time, this added a LOT of value to the action figures of the time because Hasbro could rely on simply improving the Toy Sculpt to sell figures. At the time, realistic sculpting was but a dream, and Hasbro was at the forefront, there was no competition. Now. . . . . . Definitely can not be relied on anymore. Hasbro no longer has a monopoly in this area, and in fact, their Sculpting is actually becoming less appealing for 5 POA 3.75 figures.

--------------------

Given the above, I think it's safe to assume Hasbro has pulled out pricing and models from POWER OF THE FORCE toyline in some bizarre retro Toy line concept for the Modern era.

It is a rescale of the original Kenner line in modern packaging. Each movie has had about the same number of figures as the first wave or two from the Kenner line and the same number of vehicles as well. If they had put them on vintage style cards the line would do much better. However they have finally conceded and the last Jedi line will be getting more articulation when needed as well as the relaunch of the VC.

I think the figures are in the Standing pose as a homage to the classic Kenner style of figures, but Multipacking, Deluxe Basic figures and other such concepts were introduced into Star Wars line by Hasbro's Power of the Force (2) line.

I heard from my sources that The Last Jedi figures were still mostly 5 poa and are being tweaked to have an extra point or two of articulation. It should be interesting to see which joints they choose and how they redesign them.
