Toyark.com boards member Kluster Bombs has found a variant for the Red Hulk figure from Marvel Universe Fury Files wave 4. This variant spots a flat(matte) paint finish, as opposed to a gloss finish. While the glossy, more prevalent version is more comic accurate, the matte finish is more in line with other Marvel Universe figures.

So the flat one is a variant? Odd, the only two I found were both the flat paint finish. Are they any more rare?

Maybe they were just from two different batches. Like some were made in a different warehouse from the others. Or maybe some were made at a later date when they were running low on certain materials.
Think of it as if you were to print a picture using a brand new ink cartridge. Then print the same picture when the cartridge is running out of ink. The pictures would look very different even though they were printed on the same type of paper using the same printer and ink cartridge. Maybe the same problems occur during the toy making process when the products used are running out in a particular machine. This might effect the plastics and paints as well. Then again Hasbro just could have decided to change the way the figure looked half way through production because they didn't like it the way it originally looked. This is all just speculation because I don't buy into "variant" philosophies.

Jury is out for me... seems like a quality control issue more than a variant. The difference in color doesn't look intentional like the dark blue wash Spiderman.
If there are more sightings to confirm then I'll swing my vote to variant. |

Well I never called it a variant. I just simply posted the pics of what I found. Like Dawingster said, seems like QC issue. But a couple of people claim to have found that Rulk also.
