I have a 1978 Star Wars Chewbacca with his weapon and have read that the weapon alone is worth something like $70 odd dollars, is this true ? I also have about 15 vintage Star Wars figurines and would be interested to see what they are worth now.

Definitely not worth $70 for that gun.
The others all depend on character and condition. There are very few loose vintage Star Wars that sell for $70 or more complete. |

Yea when I read it I thought surely not... I have a few vintage Star Wars figurines, don't know how I got them though seeing I was born in 1981 and the action figures are from 1977/1978...

4 complete loose mint figures for 60 is a good going rate. But you can haggle that price to 50 easily. And that's still not bad considering the massive amount of these that resurged during the prequel hype.
The trick is how much you paid to get them in the first place. Whether they were from when you were a kid, or you bought them second hand. I have tons, like i'm talking 800 or more vintage figures complete that I am sitting on without pain scratches or anything. The capes and weapons intact that I intend on willing away. I just acquired them at flea markets in the late 80's early 90's when they were like a buck a piece or less. I paid that dollar and made like an 7 dollar to 14 dollar profit on the 800 plus figures I have. When I think of it, I'd say 3/4 of my collection is mint complete loose. I used to by them from this lady in Newark, NJ who would sell them for a dollar and she'd just keep getting in shit tons of them loose for years. When I lived in NJ I would buy them like 20 at a time. I have about 10 of Chewie's Bowcaster. I wish it were worth 70 dollars. I'd have another flat screen TV after I sold those suckers. Funfact: Actor Christian Bale just willed his massive Star Wars collection to his kid, whom he felt was old enough to have them as heirlooms.

If your figures are in good shape hang on to them (or sell them to me ) The value of the vintage stuff has gone down over the years thanks to Hasbro flooding the market with SW product over the past decade. I'm a big SW collector but even I've lost interest over the massive amount of toys out there.

the first round of chewbaccas in the early bird kits were shipped with a bowcaster molded in green plastic.that is the gun you are reffering to.ebay killed the value of star wars vintage items.its funny how after about 1998 everybody thought that if they had something old that said star wars.....that it was worth a million bucks.other than the telescoping lightsabers and power of the force figs, everything else loose is not scarce.
