i remember the white castle toy store.. the one i went to as a child was in scranton pa and it was on top of a large hill so it really stood out... i remember going there every weekend with my aunt and she always let me spend 20 on whatever i wanted.. back in the late 80s $20 went a long way

Back in the day there was Children's Palace along with Toys R Us and Circus World (KayBee's). I loved going to all 3...But Children's Palace was awesome. Big white castle looking store. Had a big panda in red overalls. Was HUGE inside. And had isles that the tops seemed to go on for ever. It was cheaper than TRU. And had much larger selection. It closed it's doors in late 80's to early 90's. I climbed all the way to the top of one of those rolling ladders. They had huge rows of JOE figures. I was searching for some cool finds one time with my dad. And at the top I found a Snake-eyes w/Timber, Storm Shadow, and a Gung-Ho. I was so excited...Man, I miss that store. Great time as a kid going there.
Let me know if any of you guys thought of that place. If they were around you area or time. Last edited by paraviper; 05-29-2009 at 04:53 PM.. |

Children's Palace was awesome! TRU was't in the Kansas City market yet so all I had was CP, but it was my place. My grandparent's use to take us to TRU up in Ilinois and spoil us so TRU always seemed better because the toys were free for us. I miss CP though.

They had two mascots one was a panda and the other was a toy soldier, kind of like a nutcracker. I remember the store fondly, but it could just be because I was a kid and everything was better back then.

God bless brother! I am here in Kansas City and that place was the best toy store we will ever know. I agree with Gungho-Jo it too will have a place in my memories and heart. It was back in the day when stores and people in general did things right. My folks were divorced and so I would see my pop every other weekend. Even though he didn't have alot of money,I would always have a new Joe or vehicle waiting for me.

It was called Child World in Jersey too, it was always second runner up to TRU that I'd go to in Totowa NJ on rt 46 if any of you jersians know what I'm talking about. I do remember we had a Child World in The Garden State Plaza, and my parents would spend upwards of 3 bills on me for christmas in the 80's, I went in there in christmas of 85 and said, "I want every Joe thing on the shelf," so I had to calculate @ 7 years old how much I had left after all was said and done. Alas though no terrordrome, or headquarters, I got the mobile Command Center the following year.
