Actually Wal-Mart still has the power to kill something if they want to. So you worked at a Wal-Mart. You don't see the buying side of Wal-Mart corporate. Up until a couple of months ago I was working as a designer for Rubbermaid, and was constantly in meetings regarding products pending approval from Wal-Mart. If they didn't want it, the product was either put on the back burner or deep sixed. If Wal-Mart wanted a product, we made it, in whatever color / size / piece count they wanted. Yes we pitched ideas to them . . . some of them they liked, some of them they didn't, but when it came down to it, it was either a go or no go depending on what they said.
Actually, they even requested their own line of kitchen accessories about 4 months ago, that they wanted to carry under their own name. Rubbermaid was to make the products, but could not put their name on anything. Did we want to do it? No, because it wasn't putting the name out there and wasn't helping our brand. Did we do it? Yes, because we had to in order to continue doing business with them. So don't talk about things you know nothing about regarding the pull Wal-Mart has with their buying power, even with very large companies. |

Similar stories have surfaced about walmarts buying power. I tea on a DCUC Q&A regarding wave 5. It was implied that in order for DCUC to continue to be carried at WM, they had to do an exclusive wave. This would have likely killed that line at retail. Real quick, Walmart has 3 different store designations based on size/location, where almost all Targets are the same, which is why some people don't find certain items restocked or ever. I have great luck at the two I frequent until lately, but that's because nothing is new.
The Walmart special they ran on MSNBC was really interesting, you should all watch it. |

It's not entirely terrible. Half of the stuff in the store doesn't sell, it's basically cheap junk. They'll probably keep the important stuff and bigger brands.
But hey, it's true. Wal-Mart usually has crap all over the place and cluttered. Not to mention, Wal-Mart in my hometown just came under investigation and had to pay back a lot of employees for making them clock out so they wouldn't get overtime. They did that to me when I worked there, and I quit because of it. In truth, Wal-Mart is the king of cheap solutions. They've lost a lot of money, and now they're out of options when it comes to being shady and cutting corners. Now that places like Target and the new K-Mart is kicking their ass in merchandise, and Publix and othe grocers kicked their ass in the food; they have to do something to fix their situation. I don't even go to Wal-Mart. It's a pain in the butt having to deal with all those people scrambling around in their own little world. Sadly, too many of them are ghetto/trailer trash that can't control their children. |

^^^ I can't see why they would be investigated for preventing people form having overtime...A LOT Of companies only allow for 32 hours minimum to maintain fulltime status. I can see it if they were being forced to falsify timesheets to not report time worked which is a law violation, but if I sent you home at your minimum hours to maintian your employment status and you did not work those hours then I can't see why that is a big deal...I get my hours cut all the time and am told no overtime so must be a different reason...

Well, yes. Target was sort of the same way as Wal-Mart in terms of the pull they had (though definitely not as strong). Home Depot and Lowes also had the final say of what appeared in their stores. Basically we had ideas / concepts for products and pitched it them. If they didn't want to buy it, we couldn't make it. So, in a way, they do determine a lot of decisions that are made. It's not the same way for every company Wal-Mart does business with, but this situation does apply to Hasbro.
