Wal Mart has been trying to adjust its image for a while, and appeal more to a different tier of shopper. It didn't work then. Maybe they have a better plan now, but it seems unlikely to work well.
About 4-5 years ago Wal Mart opened one of their newer types of stores in a town I visit often. I went in shortly after it was built, and I saw they had nicer displays, nicer fixtures, more attractive flooring and trim, etc. The grocery section looked more like a nice grocery store and the rest looked more like Target. When I went back a year later, it was a different story. The parking lot had soiled diapers. There was gum all over the pavement. More than you'd believe. Whatever you're visualizing, double it. Or triple it. There were people shouting in the parking lot. Food wrappers, etc on the ground. In one place it looked as if someone had cleaned out his car directly onto the pavement. The interior had gone downhill. It was dirty and the nice, orderly displays were replaced by the sorts of messes we are used to at Wal Mart. I don't think you can blame the employees. When you have hundreds of people trashing the place for 24 hours per day and squashing gum into the pavement, you'd need a full-time army of janitors to keep up with them. When was the last time you saw excrement on the floor in the bathroom at Target? Bottom line: As long as Wal Mart is the shopping place of choice for people who believe the world is their sewer/landfill, its image in the eyes of people who appreciate sanitation and prefer to breathe through their nostrils won't change much. |

And with the sound of the A-team theme song in the background and a psychotic, matricide fanatic baby loading the shells? why not? |

I know when I worked for them, all too often I would "zone" the checkout lanes and not an hour later, have to rezone them as people would come through and wreck them (keep in mind this is 3 in the morning). In some places, there is so little to do, people just GO TO WALMART out of boredom, like here.

My Wal-Mart had already switched to this model since Jan. and it sucks...We have gotten 0 joes in since the switch...They carry no DC products except the Brave and bold line and they do not carry mcfarlane, Marvel Super heroes or a variety of other toys...The action figure line is a half of aisle....it is almost always a worthless trip now.

Here the walmarts are not hill billy hangouts (not too many of them here) they are more like south-of-the-border filth zones.
Like carbine said above.. its nasty.

That is a wonderful story! Did you happen to work at the Wal Mart in Palestine, Texas?? I love good ol' horror stories from WM employees about dumbass people. I worked at an HEB here in Texas and they had a sign posted on every door that you came from in the back that read:
Rule #1: The customer is always right. Rule #2: Refer to rule #1. I laughed everytime I read it! you like your inhuman..whoever decided that rule are, the ones who dont have to deal with the dumbed down customers |
