I can appreciate that . Perhaps what is needed is new media . As it stands i feel about Robotech like i do about Joe - I loved it as a kid and still pay attention to the property but you can only keep releasing 30 year old designs for so long. The new updated G1 designs in the TF line are a great example of keeping a design classic but refreshing it simultaneously.

Whereas in Japan, Macross has continued since 1982, the most recent movie being in 2012, with a new series called Macross Delta in the works. To answer the OP's question, the Toynami 1/100 VF-1 toys are overpriced for what they are. The polycap joints are prone to cracking even under minimal handling. Same with the ball joint display adapters. They feel like novelty toys that could've been released in the mid-90's but nothing that would stand up to a kids handling nor something the average collector would want in their collection. The price for the recent armored versions is very high. You can get a Japanese Macross armored VF-1 by Bandai in November in the same scale for little more than what Toynami is asking for. Link here: HI-METAL R VF-1J Armored Valkyrie by Bandai | HobbyLink Japan That's from bandai's upcoming HI-METAL R line, a successor to their 1/100 VF HI-METAL line. There is some parts swapping involved for transformation. The VF HI-METAL VF-1's had a much more positive reception than the Toynami 1/100 VF-1's Anymoon.com has some pretty objective reviews which I suggest reading for comparison. I have 2 Toynami 1/100 VF-1's. 9 years ago I thought they were great. Until a few months later when I saw the polycaps cracked. They're just not built to last. They're more like toys you would buy some kid visiting museum, not expecting the kid to think anything of it aside from being a novel souvenir. |
