So, in light of that - I hope the Horsemen do a proper post-mortem on this failure, and don't blame it on the scale or lack of interest.
In my opinion, they blew it by over-reaching on an under-advertised line with next to zero pre-sale hype or media. Who is Zergot? Dr. Waybar? Why are there multiple face-changing aliens, but a single-faced red alien with the same body? Who are the Dark and Light Guardians? Unlike Eagle Force and their pending lines, we have no character to go with the characters. No explanation on why Arkus is absent. Who Adam Power is or why he shares armor with Sh'vix (Who?!) The Horsemen gave up on this line long ago, and this half-hearted "relaunch" is, to my mind, their excuse to up the scale to 6-inch and really push it with all of the above. They have the mythos, but they really want to be int he 6-inch scale, I feel. Too bad if so. Was looking forward to integrating with the 4-inch lines that already have my very real interest. |

Well, they saved me a couple hundred bucks. I Really have no interest in the Power Lords IP, but I dug that Power Soldier mold. I bet if they were just offering Power Soldier variants, they would have sold enough to go through with production. It's probably the alien molds that were lagging behind and couldn't get funded.
The Power Soldiers look like the stars of any 4" display, whereas the aliens look like background characters and filler, if you aren't familiar with the license. |

Nah, the Power Soldiers look like every other future tech soldier ever made and are deathly-boring while the aliens are unique and the big draw for those unafraid of something new.

This latest Power Lords run by 4Horsemen has been a revealing experience. It seems as once joyful action figure enthusiasts, at the high end of this hobby we have transgressed to the hipster douches of the toy world. Whereas Kickstarter has allowed us access to the process and breaking down of all components, we now demand it for everything. While it's true it's comforting to see accountability from unknown names, we have gotten to the point where a company like 4Horsemen who has produced millions in sales and taken sculpts to new unsurpassed realms, still is given no leeway and looked upon as suspect, unless they show us & tell us everything.
"How exactly is that penny I sent you going to be divided" we yell out with the rest of our long list of demands. "When you are done playing with sculpt in the back get over here on this computer and break down your business for me," we tell them. "And why have you not colored in this story and made this more apealing to me? What is wrong with you guys?" we ask them. No longer can one just make an action figure for exactly what it is, to be looked at and held for as simple as it is. No, not even figures of a 30 year old property that we recognize that would not exist otherwise. Instead of just enjoying that simple but well made piece of plastic in our hands we demand much more. Give me a story, give me updates, give me a bio on every figure, what's the goal, when does the next series come out, I won't buy unless I have every single one because I am a 40yr old manchild with OCD, the list goes on & on. No longer can we just appreciate what is. This is the pigeonhole we have been led to. |

The guys who didn't make any PowerLords related announcements for year or two, then pop up with a limited wave of essentially Four body types of figures and then expect to sell out with no marketing and no lead up hmmm? The guys who regularly delay shipping by not paying for premium shiping service, yet charge a premium service, then screw you guys out of money AND delay time on arrival. The guys who run membership schemes with permanent benefits and first dibs on all figures? (here's an example in case you don't know) POWER LORDS FAN CLUB - POWER SHIP LEVEL (SOLD OUT) The guys who act like Mini-Mattel? Really? You have a high opinion of these guys? |

I'm gonna take it that since this is the part of my comment that you are questioning, that you agree with the rest. And no I don't hold high opinion of them. I hold standard opinion of them. My reference to their sales and sculpt was not to place them at the top of any mountain, but to notate they are established in business and passionate about the medium. At that point if I want to throw a few hundred their way, I am not worried about it. There comes a point I don't need my hand held and comforting every step of the way. I've followed enough kickstarters and watched enough of this business to realize when I am just stumbling over myself. Here is my all in, I'm going to take step back now and wait until next year for the goods. If it takes longer oh well, if they cancel it completely oh well, if they try a different approach years later oh well sometimes that's how it goes. Point is they wouldn't be here if they didn't want to do what they were doing. I don't need to dissect every aspect with every company on everything. I am not going to childishly bitch about figures that aren't re-released or about time frames because I need it on my shelf now. We have become obsessed douches that act like tiger mom's over their kids. I have no allegiance to 4Horsemen, I just contribute to that which interests me and in this case they so happen to be the makers. Does it disappoint me this didn't happen? Yes, but I'll live. If anything this whole Power Lords adventure has been beneficial as in reading people's comments it has made me see exactly the kind of collector I hope to not become. |

Just skimming the first four comments from other people on the Toyark page was enough to get a few displeased folks. New Power Lords Not Moving Forward - The Toyark - News Do THEY seem pleased with 4 Horsemen? Oh and that Powerlords wave delay thing? Powerlords started in 2013. It's been 4 years, and they still haven't done the entire main cast of Power lords. They promised to do it every year, EVERY single year, and never did. Such passion. Such devotion. Yeah, if that was true, then I'm a giraffe. |

If a company wants to release a new line and then sell it, where I can look at the product and decide if I want to buy, then fine. I don't need to know the process of how the line got made. All i need to do is decide if I want to buy. In this day and age, where the buyer is being asked to be an investor before any product is made, it isn't "douchey" to ask "how will this be made on time, what brand am I being asked to back, and what can I expect for the future of this line." In fact, it's responsible. When investors are asked to back a film, or a business venture, they demand updates and accountability. If the 4H don't want to be accountable, they should stop making themselves accountable to their customers. Throw all their own money at it, and answer only to themselves. But ask the public to back their speculative product, and shame on the public for not asking the right questions. Hey, if you have the money to toss a couple hundred at something and then not care if you get something back that is quality, good for you. But disparaging those who ask for a little more from a business asking so much of them? Well, Pot, meet Kettle. |

This would be that spoiled oblivious OCD thing I was speaking about. " . . . how will this be made on time, what brand am I being asked to back, and what can I expect for the future of this line." Not content unless the future holds everything comlete? Yeah this would be that OCD thing I was speaking about. A company can only produce figures, not force sales. Future isn't given by promises of unknown, which they never made btw, no company is foolish enough to do that, they can only speculate and tell of hopeful plans if everything works. Also production delays happen in this business as far as receiving product goes. As far as a line going on hiatus, that is always a possibility as a company reassess constantly, especially if something is not a big seller, as was the case with Power Lords. They sat around for months and I even was able to buy club exclusives at clearance. "Hey, if you have the money to toss a couple hundred at something and then not care if you get something back that is quality, good for you." What have they produced that is not quality? My 2 current Power Lords figures are worth every cent I paid for. And people go gaga over their other lines. Likewise they just released how they are making improvements on those lines. So no I am not concerned about throwing a few bills their way, as if they had hit their mark I am sure I would have recieved my figures in a year, or maybe the year after that, whatever, people have waited longer. If that makes one soil their shorts they are in the wrong hobby. But I guess I am not surprised to hear disagreence, even though the reasons you guys have retorted back are pretty much the same manchild reasonings of "I want my toys, I want them all, and I want them now" that I initially noticed and pointed out among some of us. But I can only show you the mirror, I can't make you accept what you see in it. |
