Ride it out. See if his interest in that particular item is genuine or fleeting. It's in scenarios such as this that one has to discern if the child simply wants that brand, new shiny thing in front of their face...the proverbial carrot so to speak...or is it truly something they have a sustained yearning for. It sounds as if your son has plenty of other PR to play with so he's not deprived in any way of such action figure pleasures. If, in a few days/weeks time he continues to ask about that particular figure and you can stand to surrender it, do so. That means he really wanted it. If he doesn't mention it again, he never had all that much interest in it to begin with and was just caught up in the moment. Kids have short attention spans and he'll surely be distracted by the "next" best thing soon enough.

appreciate the fact that your kid even likes toys.
it sounds like that particular toy is not that important to you... and its not expensive. like someone else mentioned, is his interest in this figure genuine? or is it just wanting something new that he wont care about in 15 minutes? my son is very respectful of all my collection items. he has his own stuff and he doesn't ask for mine. I tell him they will all be his one day anyway. he just has to share with his younger brother when they are older.

Honestly, if he seems to really want the Red Ranger, then go for it. Being a Dad should outrank being a collector, right?
A word of caution though; MST3KFAN suggested getting him an SH Figuarts Red Ranger. I have several SH Figuarts toys and this toy is not age appropriate for a little kid, as it has a ton of small parts and is a choking hazard. Now, what you could do is get the SH Figuarts Red Ranger for yourself, and give your son the other one! This is one reason why I keep my "collectible" stuff in a seperate room which my boys are not allowed to go in alone. They know that "Daddy's stuff" is in the bonus room, but if we go up there for something, there is stuff for them to play with as well. (Including my complete line of Maxx Steele and the Robo Force, which they like, and are very sturdy! They survived unscathed from my childhood!) One area which I have found is useless in this regard is Hot Wheels. Hot Wheels are Hot Wheels; if you don't want your kids to drive a certain casting put it up where they can't reach it! If I have open Hot Wheels on my desk then they're fair game! I lost my Matchbox Food Truck and Amphi-Rescue hovercraft that way, BUT it makes me so happy to see them (ages 4 and 2) driving them on their car rug!

Give it.to him or spend the 20 on another. Someone said something about a collectible...only a collectible if it says adult collectible only on the package. Power rangersdonsay that. Let the kid play.

My boy is 2 1/2 and I let him play with pretty much everything. I don't let him play with my Masterpiece Transformers or certain Kreos but he can play with pretty much anything else. I do take all the weapons off and if it's a Kreo I either glue it together or keep a close eye since I have another one crawling.

If you aren't really into Power Rangers, go ahead and let your boy open the Red Ranger. I've been collecting toys with my kids for the last 5 years and the only toys I have that are off-limits are my MP Transformers. My 6 year old even has is own S. H. Monsterarts Final Wars Gigan that he saved his allowance for like 12 weeks to buy.
