If you're going to sell action figures the same size at GI Joes at the same price or more, there'd have to be some sort of tie in, otherwise they're just overpriced CORPS figures to most consumers.
Much like the others who've posted, I pay $7 a Joe because they're Joes. Some of us might buy figures for $2.50 or $3.00 that aren't Joes for whatever reason (customs, dios, etc) but I think it's lacking that certain niche. first thing first, define who your target market is, why they need this product and is there anything comparable on the market to benchmark it against. |

Toys today sell because they are based on established characters. Star Wars, GI Joe, Transformers, Bakugan, Ben 10, Spidey, etc. etc....are indentifyable. How would your toys be identifiable? What makes them different from other military figure toys? What makes them worth 7.50 a pop and 17.00 for a vehicle. The Corp and other knockoffs sell cause they are CHEAP! You can get $9 bucks for Spidey, cause he's Spidey. You need to figure a way to grant instant recognition to a toy line at those prices.

I agree with the Commander and Gunslinger, as I collect GI Joe for the brand and characters, not for the fact that they are military figures. There might be a market for more articulated BBI/Corps-type figures, but I'm not it, nor will be a number of people on this forum. As such, this might not be the best place to get advice on how well that stuff would sell, anyway (we are what's called a "biased sample," not because we are biased for Joe [though we are], but because we are a self-selected bunch, who come here for our love of Joes).

My personal opinion...
There is a market for the vehicles, as they can cross over into most compatable toy lines. The figures would be a bust at that price. Customizers and army builders would want them, but that market isn't big enough to support a toy line with no movie/TV/comic tie-in. If they were $3 each or 3 for $10, and had a lot of accessories that crossed over to other toy lines, maybe.... |

I buy Joes because I had them as a young girl. I didn't buy the Hulk Two pack of generic soldiers and I don't buy Corps. Why? There is no story and no feeling for me behind them. Want to make a great toy that will sell. Give the toys feeling, make me want to believe in them. Tell me a story that gives me hope as well as draws me in.
Here is a great concept for you. What if a revolution was brewing? What if people took sides? What if the world as we know it was about to end? And what if the only thing stopping the collapse was a small group of men and women who knew the truth and where ready to stand their ground against the coming storm. That was my ideal behind GI Joe in the 1980's. The world was being defended by a covert team of men and women who where our last line defense against the forces of Cobra. You need to come up with a story that children can grasp a hold of. A story that they can understand and feel like they can relate too. A child feels like they are powerless against the world and giving them hope that they have a choice and that they can make a difference will translate into a major deal. Power Rangers, Poke Mon, Yu gi oh, Star Wars, X-men, GI Joe, all give a child hope that good will win over the forces of evil. To a child that means literally they can actually make a difference. If you can mix together a child's hopes and dreams into a cohesive story where they can believe that they can make a difference, you will have a successful story and an amazing toy line. Take the real world with all of its problems and boil it down into it's simple truths and distil it as a way for the youth of today to understand it and show them that they can make a difference and you will be the creator of the next great toy line. I wish you well in your task to create the next great child hood dream. You are treading where so many have tread before and where so many have failed. Yours truly Samantha

Depending on the scuplting of the toys, I would be all over the civilians and the beat up truck. Why? because those type of items are not available anywhere else. Humvees can be had from PTE (I actually prefer them over the GI Joe ones) and generic military figures are boring to me
I collect Corps figures too, but I only collect the interesting looking ones, for the most part, that's generic civilians and spacemen. Again, we come into the ide of interesting sculpts that you don't see often and figure types (Civilians) that are not widely available. My advice would be to find many things Joe collectors are lacking from GI Joe and try to supply all of those "needs" in one toy line. If you make your toy line one that can stand on it's own, but also suppliment Joes then you'll have a winner instead of just competition for Joes. |

I'm a Joe collector. That's it. G.I.JOE has great characters, great history and has always been the only toy I couldn't give up. Everything else I used to like, I lost interest in.
