I have been a collector of the marvel legends from toy biz series 1 to the Nemisis series. I loved the line and the scale. Online I have heard nothing but good things from the new marvel universe line. I just picked up X-force wolvie and punisher from Wally world and I think they are completely cheap knock offs. The wolvie is kinda cool with the paint, but its articulation is completely off. I can't think of anything good about the punisher either. I have seen every figure released opened at a local comic shop, the only figure I liked was Iron Man and the Deadpool from the movie line. Hasbro has gone cheap. I just wondered if there is anyone who is not that into this line like me.

Mixed feelings. I bought Cap and the brown Wolvie from the movie line. Love Cap,but Wolvie seems a little boring. Some of the other figs are not so hot.

I guess we are the only three who have a real opinion on this.
I really hate what hasbro has done with the marvel universe line. A complete waste if you ask me. I got some figures on a trade and was just disgusted with the quality. These toys are not worth what Marvel Legends figures where going for last year.

These toys are not worth what Marvel Legends figures where going for last year. I really thought Hasbro was making a comeback with the 2 packs with Ronin vs Electra and ultimate cap and Fury. Those were great. What Hasbro is doing now is going cheap. The figures are smaller than the joes and they are 2 bucks more than the joes at target and tru. I just advise Deadpool fans to get Deadpool and leave the line alone.

I have to disagree, but only to as slight extent.
The Marvel Universe (and Wolverine Origins as well) have a few gems and a load o' crap. The really good (not much, but worth picking up): 1) Iron Man and Stealth Iron Man: These 2 are the same mold. The lack the full articulation due to the mold itself but it is negligible. The paint apps are spectacular and clean. They also can be combined pretty easily to make an Iron Patriot (add some Flat white to the faceplate and wallah). Both are keepers and worth picking up. 2) Captain America (Ultimate Cap). Great paint apps, great design, great execution. This is the best of the series IMHO. Worth every penny. Unfortunately that is it for great. But buy these 3 and you may have a different opinion of the line. Then there are the pretty good, not great: Black Panther, Johnny Storm, Ronin, Wolverine X-Force (looks good but articulation sucks on arms due to his burgeoning steroid habit), Iron Fist (probably the best of this list, would've been great if his hands weren't open so that he can't make an actual, you know, fist), Hulk/Grey Hulk, Wolverine Brown and Wolverine Yellow (look cool, playability/possibility kind of sucks), Maverick, Deadpool (same as Wolverine), the rest of the wolvie line, Gambit, Weapon-X, Plain clothes Wolvie, Green Goblin. The crap: Punisher (giant cartoon head and hands), Bullseye (upper torso huge, lower torso tiny), Daredevil (same mold as Bullseye), Sabertooth (giant cartoon feet, overall odd look), Spiderman (fat dude with little feet in a Spiderman mask). The accessories suck! All the accessories are flimsy soft plastic. All in all, buy the 3 great ones, be picky about the good ones and avoid at all costs the crap ones. You might feel better about the line. Last edited by Boombatty; 07-13-2009 at 11:15 AM.. |

I got Spidey yesterday, and agree that he feels really cheap, which was a disappointment. For $8, you expect more than that (the DCUC figures are only $3 more at TRU), but I think a lot of this comes from the fact that most of us are familiar with Joes. The Joes are of a much higher quality than this figure. With these and the crappy Marvel Legends that Hasbro is currently putting out, it seems as if they just don't care about the quality of their Marvel figures that much, figuring people will buy them even if they are cheap.
I have speculated that it is because they are targeting an exclusively adult audience with the Joes, with more discerning tastes than the mix of kids (who make up a large chunk of the audience for the Marvel toys) and adults going after the Marvel stuff. |

here's my thing (i apologize in advance for venting to people who may not deserve it)
1) the marvel legends line is done for the time being. it was a great toyline that had a great run with great characters. great. i wish people would accept that the 8 year run is wrapping up and move on. the super powers line only lasted for 3 years. secret war figures lasted 2. not every line has a real american hero 13 year run. 2) you don't have to be a marvel universe fan if you don't want to be. no one is forcing you to buy these guys. if you've been collecting marvel legends from day one, so what? this line is a totally different deal. even if you just pick and choose, that's cool. there's room on the bus for everybody. 3) marvel universe offers superheroes in the gi joe scale. that's freaking awesome. compare it to other other superhero lines at the same scale (showdown and dcih), and they could still all have giant punisher heads and still be the best thing ever. is there room for improvement? heck yes. that's one cool thing about most toy lines. as the line goes on, the figures usually get better. but with gi joe on temporary hiatus until the movie (25th fans need to suck it up, too, along with marvel legends fans, imo), the new marvel universe figures are the best. thing. ever. |
