I've been on the fence regarding the Marvel Universe 3.75-inch figures. I thought Wave 1 looked mostly like crap. Wave 2 has piqued my interest. Wave 3 made me pre-order a case, plus some (ninjas & hot chicks!)
Anyway, I finally bought my first Marvel Universe figure as I was eager to do a comparison with another Marvel 3.75-inch line I had a love/hate relationship with.... So it begins. Last edited by kingsurlycrab; 03-07-2009 at 09:38 PM.. |

In my experience, the SHS figures looked pretty decent on the whole, but fell apart if you looked at them funny. They were just cheap, so I didn't collect many of them.
Haven't had any Universe figures yet to judge. . . |

i'd have to say i prefer MU, due to the coloring and body proportions (always imagined SS as being rather slim)... although i think the neck IS a little too long and the ol' batch is a bit too prominent for my tastes.

I would have to say I'm stickin' with my Showdown Surfer for now rather than buy the MU one, just for the extra articulation. Head could be better but he looks great next to the ML BAF Galactus.
They are putting out a double pk later this year with Surfer and the big G. I'll wait for that. |

Articulation aside, the Universe Surfer looks to be the better sculpt to me. The muscles are leaner and look more natural. I do wish they'd gone with the magnetic feet and better hips though. But again that's articulation.
So far, the only figure I've really been disappointed in is Dare Devil. I'll have to dig him back out, but I think the Showdown figure was much better looking. |

there are a few showdown figures that look better, imo. i prefer the look of the showdown spidey, surfer, and hulk to their respective universe versions. the new wolvie figs kick the butt of the showdown wolvie. ultimately, however, the new universe figures seem more durable and well put together than the showdown figs, and that's why they win out.
plus, this is a figure from the first wave, and there is a lot of room to grow. remember gung ho v1, and all the diaper crotch joe figs? |

i may be alone in thinking this, but showdown figs and even (gasp!) marvel legends figs suffered from too much articulation, or at least articulation in unnecessary areas. i like the current style of the new universe better.
of course, the super awesome bestest ever articulation style is the gi joe style, but failing that, marvel u isn't that far behind. |

I do remember the Phoenix ML figure having some weird extra swivel in her biceps and Multi-pack Rogue's hips were terrible. But that's the Legends series...
