ok... so i'll admit i'm not a huge comic guy (pun fully intended), but i do have some interest in the Marvel Universe of heroes/villains, and the new 3.75" figures based on those characters (both Marvel Universe figures and the Wolverine: Origins figures). The Deadpool from the Wolverine line seems to be the one EVERYBODY is jonesin' for. my question is: why? what's the deal with Deadpool? i assume he is a relatively recent addition to the Universe (i.e. came about after i stopped reading comics in the early 90s). why is ths figure so sought after? is it the figure itself? the character? a bit of both? just curious.

Well if you stopped int he early '90s you should have a little knowledge of him.....
but by about the mid '90's he was HUGE....in terms of fanboy nerd worship. He was kinda like Venom and Cable, as in if you thought you were a comic book fan you had to love him. I don't get it, but he is a fan favorite. Thats why its in such high demand.

deadpool is kind of like SE in comparison that they are both ninjas and carry guns, atleast i remeber deadpool shooting guns. so i guess he would fit in very well with gijoe, plus he looks cool. just my opinion.

He was around in the 90s, forget when he first showed up but was in Liefeld's New Mutants run.
He's just a fun character. Wisecracking, but kicks major ass. Has history with Wolverine and other popular characters.

Whats not to love. A mercinary with a hyper healing factor. Whitty banter and katanas. He's the "merc with a mouth"
Actually he came around in the early 90s funny enough. He appeared in new mutants around the same time as cable. Also created by fabian and rob liefield. He's just cool to put it bluntly. Constant references to pop culture and hilarious situations he gets into. He really evolved into a comic relief character in his own series by udon. He's got a cool costume and he's part of weapon x. I've never read a bad deadpool comic to this day. Ryan Reynolds is the perfect casting for him too. A fanboys dream come true. Hopefully the wolverine movie does well and deadpool wil get his own spinoff film Last edited by ROBULUS; 03-02-2009 at 02:44 PM.. |

This is one of the few comic books out there that will actually make you laugh a little (outloud) as you read it. It really is that good.
The new series is up to issue #8 or 9 I think. Very easy to jump right into. |

Plus he breaks the fourth wall. He's also completely insane but sometimes has flashes of genius. I would suggest reading the current series as it ties into current continuity but also allows Deadpool to go onto his own.
