There's been quite a few Hummers made and all have good points to them.
I like the DTC NOH and the PTE SWAT ones the most. The only knock against the DTC is that it wont fit ME Joes. The PTE can hold Joes although it isn't easy getting them in and they dont fully sit on the seat. The SWAT version has a cool M60 with dual handles for firing and looks great in action. The Smoke Screen for 2003 will fit any joe easily but only has one seat and no opening doors. It also looks the least like a Hummer. The Steel Crusher from 2009 is nice but is too civilian looking for the Joes IMO. The BBI Hummers look great but are fragile and as said before ..you cant keep the doors closed. It does have a nicely detailed interior with tubes for the TOW launcher. Its the smallest as well and good luck getting a ME in it. The Joe Jungle Hummer is awesome. I love the fact that you can change out the main gun and its the only one (along with the Smoke Sreen) with an opening hood and engine. Sadly you cant fit in a ME Joe. It also seems to be the best built of them all. Good quality plastic. I also have a Hummer knock off from China that is a little bigger then the others and fits ME perfect. It only has 2 doors that open but has sound effects and is motorized. Damn thing takes off like crazy with battle sounds and voices! Good luck finding one though as I haven't seen one since the late 1990s. I couldn't find any of my Corps Hummers to review or 21st Century ones. I know the Corps ones are a bit bigger but still look great. Overall I'd go with the PTE if you want one that works with ME or the DTC and Jungle if its any other era. PS sorry about the dust lol...just got them out of storage. Last edited by cobralegion; 03-12-2013 at 02:20 PM.. |

My first post so sorry for any rookie mistakes. I don't know if this will be of interest to anybody but it was to me so I thought I would make a post.
Anyway while finding 1/18th scale Hummers is fairly easy today given the ones produced by BBI, 21st Century, World Peace Keepers and of course the recent Joe Hasbro versions it wasn't always so. As many of you may know the first decent version of a Humvee was produced by Toy Island Inc in the early 1990s for the Robocop TV series. The two versions released were the 'Tactical Command Vehicle’ and the ‘Tactical Field Ambulance'. What you may not know is that the Humvee mold was so successful that it was used for several other vehicles. I've tried to attach photos as examples (taken from this site & others). The first of which was the 1996 Mortal Kombat 3 remote controlled Humvee also released by Toy Island Inc. It used the same mold as the Robocop Tactical Command Vehicle only with different lights, wheels that turned and of course the fact that it was remote controlled. Unfortunately the color scheme is horrible. In mid 1996 in limited numbers a French company called 'The Majorettes' released a copy of the MK3 remote controlled Humvee only this time without remote control. It retained the same lights as the MK3 version but added the gun from the original Robocop Tactical Command Vehicle and thankfully had a camouflage paint scheme. The final version of the original Robocop Tactical Command Vehicle was the famous 'The Corps ATK Command Vehicle' released in 1997 by Lanlard. Its partly famous because Lanlard was evetually sued by GM in 2004 for violating IP rights. The Corps ATK Command Vehicle is also famous because for almost a decade it was the most realistic Hummer out there for 1/18th figures. They increased the suspension greatly, gave a desert camouflage paint scheme and added a ton of weapons, including a missile launcher, and two machine guns on the roof that could operated by standing on the back seat through two open hatches cut into the roof. While the side doors still didn’t open as in all releases, it was still a massive improvement on previous versions. The hood still opened while the aerials, front and back bumpers, and fuel tank generally added to the tough looking military nature of this vehicle. Still at its heart the mold was the same as the Robocop version. If anybody knows of any other versions of the Robocop Humvee it would be great to know. Equally if anyone has a collection of all the different versions it would be cool to see them together. Its funny how companies like Toy Island and Lanlard end up using each others molds, it continues today. GM v. I know this might be off topic but don't forget about the Corps Humvee which looks good but also has an interesting history.

The GI Joe "Night Ops Humvee" is pretty damn good.
It has excellent detail inside and out. ME figs fit in it perfectly. It comes with a ton of weapons on it. It sets a little smaller due to the realistic size of it, but it still looks great to me. This is one I repainted and compared to a Ninja Crusiser. I'll have to post some pics of it armed. Enjoy. Last edited by Spectre; 06-04-2013 at 09:21 AM.. |

Glad my Hummer 1/18 early history was appreciated
Spectre, cool repaint and photos. So based on posts I guess we can perhaps come to a general consensus that the best 1/18 Humvees are: 1.GIJOE Night Ops Humvee because of the detail, high quality of the plastic, weapons and the fact that more or less all figures can fit in it. 2.GIJOE Jungle Strike Humvee because it’s basically the same mold as the Night Ops, has a hard top instead, the hood opens and it comes with a bunch of interchangeable weapons for the top mount. 3.Pte Hummers because they offer several different types that other companies don’t offer, the detailing is reasonable and most importantly they are pretty cheap. 4.21st Century Hummers because while the detailing is good the plastic is very brittle and they aren’t that cheap compared to Pte. 5.BBI Hummers are similar to the 21st Century ones I suppose and although they offer different versions those doors just won’t stay shut and you can’t have an Army written on a Marine Division Humvee. All of the above are still pretty realistic and decent vehicles though, I suppose it depends on what you find and how much they are. I would’ve liked to include The Corps! ATK Command vehicle which looks ok and has a good history (previous uses of the mold and being sued by GM) but I just can’t forgive the ugly rocket launcher, un-opening side doors and the fact that because there is no circular top turret the mounted machine guns can basically only fire forward. But its still a classic. |

Left off my earlier list but which would anyway be last is the Bravo Team Humvee released in 2012. Its not that cheap, bigger and slightly out scale compared to other versions and as if devolving instead of evolving the side doors are sealed shut just like on the old school Robocop and Corps Hummers.
Pictures with thanks from a post by GeneralxRon viewable below http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...joe-scale.html |
