Expanded universe Joe style
G.I.Joe vs. Transformers (1/18 scale Rolling Thunder Prime) Nuff said. D.E.F. Joins C.O.P.S. Fighting Headman and Big Boss Eco Warriors vs. Inhumanoids Star Brigade and DTC vehicles get new recruits to fight Overkill ,various BATS, and his new Generals, Doc Terror and hacker. Star Brigade: The Centurions! After entering a Aztec Temple Adventure Team Members Joe Colton, and his bionic friend Mike Powers are transported to a Domain where Magic is more powerful than Tech, A place that needs Visionaries to fight the evil Knights and Demons of Cobra-La! Adventure Team, The Visionaries! To Battle the continuing the threat of the Spy Troops Gen. Hawk Enlists a New Team to help Fight against The growing threat G.I.Joe/M.A.S.K. Vs. Cobra/V.E.N.O.M Cobra island expands because of the volcanic activity and a new power source is discovered on the newly expanded island ( complete with huge mountains and rough terrain, Only Alpine and a hand picked squad can stop Cobra from using this new power called beta-7, his new team commanded by Mike Summit must stop cobra at all costs < Sgt. Alpine and the Sky Commanders! Hasbro could make a fortune! (I want to work for Hasbro)! Any of these would work as a themed set for Master Collector if you guys don't think the shelves deserve an expanded Universe for the joes. Last edited by tkprime; 01-03-2008 at 11:27 PM.. |

I can't say I'd see this happening. I mean, maybe there's a remote chance of a GI Joe/Transformers toy or toys at some point (it makes more sense than Star Wars Transformers, right?) but I don't see Hasbro reviving a bunch of other properties that didn't do all that well.
Visionaries, for example, had one year of toys, 13 cartoon episodes, and a whopping 6 comic issues. If it failed in 1988 (and it did, though I remember liking the few I had) it isn't going to get revived now. I liked Visionaries and M.A.S.K. and other 80s toys just fine...but I'd rather Hasbro just focus on G.I. Joe, and that's probably what they're going to do.

No they're not.
G.I. Joe made a comeback because the original toyline lasted fourteen years, with 2 different cartoon series, a movie, and a comic run that lasted as long as the toys did. None of the other toylines...Visionaries, C.O.P.S., or M.A.S.K...even came close to lasting as long as G.I. Joe did. M.A.S.K. might have a shot, but Hasbro would almost certainly look at a new Visionaries line as throwing good money after bad.

You have a different take on the past, and the fact is that many of these toys could have a revival if Hasbro/Kenner would look at the market (C.O.P.S. would be huge now if they were part of the Joe D.E.F. and the way I remember it the D.E.F. already had a guy called bulletproof, so it's not that big of a reach. Visionaries would have lasted longer, (thank a crappy time sot, many of the original cartoons were slated for summer, so that kids could watch and collect a toyline during break). M.A.S.K. would sell off the shelves right now, it has a huge following, it's fan base is wanting a revival, and I see Joe as a way to explore properties, but if you want a different approach for M.A.S.K. you could always have the Autobots give the M.A.S.K. team the tech to transform the vehicles to fight V.E.N.O.M. (Say what you will But these toys each and every line have great possibilities.

I've always thought that having the Joes and Cobras in the middle ages would be cool. Like somehow Dr. Mindbender found a way to bend time and space to manupulate the past and the Joes had to stop Cobra.
I can picture Snake-Eyes in a cloak, Duke in a suit of armor. Cobra Commander in a tattered outfit surrounded by snakes, Destro all medieval with an old school mask.... cliché I know, but still cool to think about.

I started thinking about it back in 2003 when McFarlane came out with his Spawn Pirate and Dark Ages line. Then again when I saw the Transformers from the 1800's, Megatron was a locomotive cannon or something, etc... (Can't remember the exact name of the comic.)
And the GI Joe vs Transformers set in WW2.

i may be the minority opinion on this but i'm for limited interaction between brands. once, twice is ok but when you go nuts it only dilutes the brand in my opinion. i would rather see limited story lines with brand interaction like the joe/tf comic story lines with limited release products.
what killed my interest in joes as a kid is when they started with all the odd ball lines and anything to do with space travel. that being said, a joe/mask story arc would be intersting to me Last edited by arch2b; 01-03-2008 at 11:16 PM.. |
